Idle thought: if this is the English curators' idea of a flat pitch, I hate to think what they're going to serve up when Ben Stokes decides he wants a green seamer instead...

If we see a hint of green on any of the first couple pitches (maybe barring Lords) I will be very surprised. England don’t want their Bazball to be derailed by a tough wicket.

No chance of seeing green seamers this summer. Will be tough work for the bowlers on both sides I reckon this series. Will have to make inroad early with the new ball.

Was lucky enough to get down to London today and see a days play, had an unreal time.

Awesome, it's a great viewing ground! I got to go to a day there in 2012 when England and South Africa were playing for the #1 spot. Was perched at fine leg about 5 metres from the great Dale Steyn!

Also returned with a sunburn more reminiscent of the beaches at home...

Just looked it up. It was 40 years ago yesterday i saw England v NZ in the World cup at the oval. (I was 16)
Highlights on youtube. We were seen on TV when they did the presentations but sadly no footage of that.

Assuming you’re doing an English summer with a club?

This whole being 95% of the way to safety and then having the game wrested back is getting repetitive. This must have been what it was like for the English in 2005. Even when they're behind in the game they're doing just enough to make you nervous...

Trouble is, with this particular game, we have to risk losing to win this. Can’t get the mace with a draw!

Hoping we declare with around 4.5 sessions left, possibly 425-440 ahead.

North Melb.
Great innings there from Carey and Starc after Marnus and Green dug us into a hole.

Carey came in at 5/124 with a lead of 297 and gets 66 of 105. He gets out cheaply and India fancy their chances.

Starc came in at 6/167 with a lead of 340 and gets 41 of 57 with a very sensible innings.
