I think I might try to take some cash. Other than moving Maxey I’m not enamoured with much.
Hold Thompson another week or so? 8m on my bench…
Thompson set to make close to a million this week so probably a hold unless it really changes something, given most elite guys have 3 games this week it's hard to see a huge rush to get them if that's the reason.
Neck and neck?
Wemby has been comfortably better than Chet this season.
What about his stats are empty? Because his team is losing that you therefore believe the stats he's putting up aren't of worth? I'm genuinely curious to know your reasoning behind believing that.
Chet has been ahead for most of the season and leads in basically every advanced metric except PER, mostly because he's vastly more efficient as a scorer and is way better at avoiding turnovers. Chet has been the better player but is in a more limited role. You can spin that as a positive or a negative, often a bigger role makes things harder and reduces efficiency so it's a bit of chicken and egg but Chet has played a higher standard of basketball this season and the only area Wemby has him beat is on counting stat volume due to being in a scenario where that's all he's playing for.
The hollow stats are two-fold. One the team is terrible, they're actually a worse team this year than they were last year when they were actively tanking, he's just had zero impact on winning basketball. That's not entirely him but getting stats for a non-competitive team in blowouts just isn't the same as getting them in genuine contests. The main part though is how inefficient he is. He's scoring a lot because he shoots a lot, his assists are mostly just because he has the ball a lot and are cancelled out by how much he turns it over. Hollow stats are still better than no stats and I genuinely think he's been really good, much better than I'd expected, but that doesn't change the nature of what or how he's doing it. I'd say the same thing about someone like LaMelo Ball, fwiw, his stats are just as hollow on the same criteria. It's not an uncommon position for rookies at all, they generally end up on bad teams.
