Talk is Scharenberg won't be rushed and will spend some time in VFL.

I think Maynard is the one from Pies that may feature. He broke his thumb/finger a couple of weeks ago which unfortunately put his round 1 chances in jeopardy but many of us think he's the pick of our new recruits.

West Coast where meant to have an intra-club last weekend but shelved it (Possibly due to the bad weather) and instead gave the players 3 days off.

A WAFL practice match was played however on friday night and Duggan, Colledge, Newman, Waterman, Adamson, Brophy all played for East Perth.

As West Coast are treating the Freo match this week as a full dress rehearsal for round 1, It's good news for us that Lamb, McInnes and Jackson Nelson didn't play that game and all now look like they are firmly in the mix for round 1. Will be interesting to see how they go on the weekend but I think that Lamb is very close to playing round 1 and starting at CHF. Nelson is a chance as well as I have been very impressed with him but he would be fighting for a bench spot for round 1 and most likely the green vest.

Here is my take Bobbie (for what it is worth) :)

- Hamling = fairly confident, seems to have done everything required in the NAB and structure changes at the Dogs mean there are spots available
- Brown N = will play, kpp, not a great scoring history and poor injury history
- Saad = needs to be elevated, don't see where that LTI is (very sketchy info on the Suns ability to elevate as well - ie the BigFooty boards were unsure)
- Goddard H = doubtful, kpp, not sure how he fits into the Saints lineup
- XCross = very doubtful, expect him to play through the VFL first
- Jones Z = very doubtful, hasn't played NAB and not sure on how he breaks into the Swans lineup
- Lever = hasn't played NAB, injured?
- Clurey = may play round 1 and then not play after players come back to Port after injury
- McIntosh = possibly, haven't seen a lot of him though
- McKenzie = to my knowledge he hasn't played NAB so not in the mix
- Maynard = looks to be a VFL player at the moment
- V Rainbow = very doubtful
- **** = doubtful
- Edwards = plays for Essendon, hasn't shown a lot in the NAB
- Wigg = to my knowledge he hasn't played NAB so not in the mix
- Byrne = possibly, although against other players for a spot at the Blues
- Oxley = maybe, although looks to be outside of the mix for the Pies backline
- Durdin = very doubtful
- Johnson A = doubtful
Gold Coast only have 38 on their main list so can elevate 2 without requiring a long term injury. Broughton and Saad look like the 2 most likely at the moment.
Hardwick suggested McIntosh was a good Fantasy choice in a recent interview. The fact he missed NAB1 and played 84%tog in NAB2 suggests he is not being "looked at" but has already been chosen. This is his 3rd year on their list.

Tiger, defender in supercoach, $123,900. 20 years old, 192cm lock down defender but he ran off his opponent a few times on the weekend. Morris looks like playing Jake King's forward pressure role. Newman also looks like he might miss a few games but I think McIntosh was in anyway.

There's certainly no mention of him lining up in any Best 22 Tiger sides on BF
Team boards "best 22s" can be unreliable when it comes to first year players though. There's always a few bolters seem to turn up in R1 without their club's own supporters expecting it. I guess they aren't at every training session or in the head of the senior coach.

Yep agree with that, but usually you do see a couple of teams or even a reference to the player. It's like he doesn't exist LOL.

The other issue you now have is JS. The only thing worst than not being selected is being selected and playing one or maybe 2 games for the season and than gone.

So, if there are three playing rookies in the backline come round 1, will people play three rookies? Including one on the field?

Interesting question. It may be possible to play 2 on the field with another on the bench plus a donut (eg Saad). Higher risk, but worth considering.

I know that Nathan Brown has his injury concerns but I am going to just keep him on my bench as cover. A player that is in a clubs best 22 that is priced $146k. I know he isn't going to score anything really above 40 (if that) but his points are better than no points if a late out. Hopefully he can stay on the park for the entire season.

I like this and will almost certainly do it (if there are 3 available)

With this seasons lack of rookies and quality scoring rookies, this is dangerous as you will need all the cash generation possible for upgrades.

I'm not sure playing a 0 in the backs on purpose is the way to go as it essentially removes a potential cash cow from the mids or forward line.

I don't see how you miss out on a cash cow in the mids or fwds. By deliberately choosing a floating donut in defense you can only possibly miss out on a potential cash cow in defense not on any other line

I think that the Def donut would be replaced by a mid/premo priced player in Def (ie 1 deeper) and this would open up a spot in Mid or Fwd for another rookie.

Exactly my thoughts.

I think floating donuts are a good idea, but I also think priority is cash generation to allow for a complete team as soon as possible with premium players. In the past when there has been sufficient rookies across all lines we have been able to get away with it, but this season I'm not so sure, certainly another risk to factor in. With most people starting Nathan Brown that's an additional risk some may be prepared to wear and others won't.

I'm yet to be convinced that rookies within the mids and backs will string enough games together and avoid the sub vest to get that needed cash generation let alone deliberately implementing a non scoring rookie, especially when it's likely R3 will enable this also.
