I heard a story once that Jacko had a fight with Maurice Rioli and Maurice won.
I had heard more than once, that Maurice was pretty handy with his fists, and may have even been a golden gloves champ, but I'm not sure about the last bit.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says the AFL must abolish the substitute rule, labelling the dreaded green vest as unnecessary and an embarrassment for players.
The Sunday Herald Sun revealed this weekend the AFL seems certain to get rid of the sub at the same time as it alerts clubs about 2016 interchange numbers in June or July this year.
Beveridge said players hated to subbed out with the red vest and often had their seasons interrupted if only allowed to play limited minutes after starting in the green vest.
“I think it’s time for the sub to go and 22 players each week for sides seems like right amount for me,’’ Beveridge told 3AW.

Very strong Maurice was, he was my coach in juniors. I think jacko was a softy and all bluster. Back Maurice any day of the week.

I maybe imagining this but did not Jacko and "Rotten" Ronnie Andrews have some boxing match people could pay money to go see at one stage ?
No doubt Maurice Rioli could box a bit better than them. He was some player. I cannot remember but is Cyril Rioli his nephew ?
If I remember correctly Maurice Rioli might have got the Norm Smith medal in 1982 Grand Final when we beat Richmond. Not often the Norm Smith medal goes to losing team member but happens every now and again.

Okay this guy just continues to confuse me, talk about an enigma. Essendon's B2B premierships were before my life-time, so I guess that doesn't help either. So can someone fill me in on what the whole deal with Bomber Thompson and that team is? Why did he insist on not going to the reunion on the weekend, even when encouraged to do so? More than that, has he always been like how he appears in the media (AFL 360, specifically), that is, extremely nonchalant to the point where Gerard and Robbo appear perplexed? How was he as a player, both talent wise, and as a sportsman? If you could liken him to a player today, who would he play like? I know the media wouldn't be nearly as relevant as what it is today, but did he appear an outspoken player, or more introverted? He appears to me as someone who could've been as predictably professional as a Trent Cotchin type, but it wouldn't surprise me if he were akin to the Gus Monfries of the modern game, flamboyantly buckling his knees, arms spread, as he fails to win the umpire over, yet again.

Would appreciate some background on the bloke, just for some clarity. Nonetheless, his press conferences will be sorely missed, along with his refreshingly casual approach in front of the media in general (as a coach). He has also agreed to be a guest on Open Mike, so that should help me figure out what he's all about.

Thanks in advance.

As a player he was a hard nosed back pocket player.
He was not flamboyant as a player.
As a person think he just gets a bit sensitive and emotional. This makes for interesting viewing as most are more measured in what they say and be more rational. He's just a different cat in that sense. He is refreshing in that sense. I think we need to understand the whole Dank controversy does effect him deeply what has gone on at his club. The reality is if Thompson was not at Essendon I think none of that drama would have gone on. He would not have recommended the Wheapon goto Essendon and then Wheapon would not have had Dank follow in soon after. I reckon deep down he probably feels a lot of guilt for that. Least last year he could do something directly about it by coaching and at least contributing in some manner. Now he probably feels like he needs to keep his distance from the club. It is a bit sad as he meant no harm but it is unfortunate they did not dot the i's and cross their t's back then in terms of employing people in such important roles so casually.
He really should have gone to the premiership re-union for his own sake and his old mates but he is his own person. I can only speculate why he would not go but it would have been nice for him to catch up with them. He seems like a good bloke so no one is going to blame him forever for the nonsense that went on.

P.S. That 84-85 team probably the best Essendon team I ever seen.

FYI He did catch up for some beers with the blokes on the Saturday, just didn't go to the official function on the Friday night.

On AFL 360 tonight he said two main reasons for not going: 1. He had already made a dinner appointment with a friend he hadn't seen in two years, and 2. He felt after the press in the last week, if he did go a lot of the focus at the function would be about him turning up etc, and he didn't want that as he would rather just quietly sneak in and be one of the attendees. (Paraphrasing from memory here, so don't quote me on exact words)

That would make all sense if he was catching up with a close friend he had not seen in a few years.
However the part that surprised me was he comment I heard of They are not in love with me and I am not with them. I assume he meant about the club in general. It was a strange comment to make on weekend on air but that is just him I guess. He does get a bit emotional in moments on air. I hope he did not mean the bulk of his ex team mates. Doubt it would be true.

I might be blind, but for the life of me I can't see the C and V for Capt and Vice like years gone by.

Am I a) stupid or b) not displaying correctly??
