Okay this guy just continues to confuse me, talk about an enigma. Essendon's B2B premierships were before my life-time, so I guess that doesn't help either. So can someone fill me in on what the whole deal with Bomber Thompson and that team is? Why did he insist on not going to the reunion on the weekend, even when encouraged to do so? More than that, has he always been like how he appears in the media (AFL 360, specifically), that is, extremely nonchalant to the point where Gerard and Robbo appear perplexed? How was he as a player, both talent wise, and as a sportsman? If you could liken him to a player today, who would he play like? I know the media wouldn't be nearly as relevant as what it is today, but did he appear an outspoken player, or more introverted? He appears to me as someone who could've been as predictably professional as a Trent Cotchin type, but it wouldn't surprise me if he were akin to the Gus Monfries of the modern game, flamboyantly buckling his knees, arms spread, as he fails to win the umpire over, yet again.
Would appreciate some background on the bloke, just for some clarity. Nonetheless, his press conferences will be sorely missed, along with his refreshingly casual approach in front of the media in general (as a coach). He has also agreed to be a guest on Open Mike, so that should help me figure out what he's all about.
Thanks in advance.
