Re: Cornes. After doing the hard yards of another pre-season, don't get why you wouldn't see the year out. Port are a top 4 club, why pass up the opportunity to play finals, possibly a grand final, possibly a premiership? Surely 6 months doesn't make any difference to a post-game career in the Fire Brigade. Anyway, good luck to him.

An opportunity came up and he took it so obviously it does. Adelaide is the size of a toothpick with nothing in it.

Have read previously the MFS are doing a June intake, which is the first in four years. Given he's 32 and apparently it's been his long term dream to be a firefighter it could well mean it's his last shot given the physical rigours of the training and the job, why wouldn't you finish what is essestially a 14 year career 3 months early to pursue the bext stage of your life.

Shame about Radar Reilly, played in one of those positions that rarely stands out but still only the 13th Crow to hit 200 games, so a legend of the club.

Correct re Cornes, was either now or 3 year wait. Ah chee has been groomed to replace him from some accounts, same elite endurance type player.

Kane did well to make 300 for a relatively average player, too short too slow, and a club champion. Definitely got the most out of himself. Did his yards through the hard years too. Will be remembered as one of our Greats.

Wouldn't he be in the AFS? Anyway, was just wondering. No biggie.

Still, reckon my point was valid. Don't think he'd be struggling for cash. But if that's been his dream, fair enough. Just asking a question. Good luck to him. He's realised the dream of many of us already.

The "M" is Metropolitan, not Melbourne.

Is Jake Kelly the most awkward looking kick in the history of the game? He played well yesterday but he kicks the ball incredibly badly. He looks like a right footer when he kicks on his left.

You obviously too young to remember seeing Barry Round or James Manson play.
Even Warwick Capper look unco kicking but he tended to kick straight and not far out from goals.
Having said that I not seen Jake Kelly play so will have to wait to see if he compares to those guys.

Curly Austin for Carlton used to kick the ball weird. Held up upside down from memory but still kicked it that way.
Ben Brown off North is actually nephew of James Manson.
Much better player than his uncle.

6 and a half weeks in and I'm still hesitant to trade in any Def options. I remember thinking to myself last year that if Tom McDonald played within his limitations (ie just hand it off) he'd be a decent fullback. Here he is averaging 115 and is a sure thing to be Melbourne's B&F. I don't know what to think anymore. What is love? Baby don't hurt me.

Next up is Bachar Houli, Alex Rance and Cale Hooker, who I'm expecting to all drop away sooner or later. Then you've got Corey Enright, who'll always score well but you just think that he'll be cheaper in a month's time. I keep making excuses for all the current top 20 DEFS and then I realise that's how it is for defenders this year. It was hard to pay full price at the start of the year, and it's even harder to pay a premium for them now.

Not SC related but certainly ties in with all the carnage of yesterday..

For all the people here that play Texas hold 'em poker (I'm obsessed) please read my gut-wrenching story and it will hopefully make you feel not quite as unlucky about your SC teams this week.

I was playing in a tournament yesterday which I had qualified for which had 176 players in total. The top 16 were in the money and there were around about 30 players left. I had one of the biggest chip stacks in the room and was cruising when I looked down at KK. A guy on my table had already raised pre-flop and he just so happened to be the only guy on the table that had more chips than me. I went all in over the top and he called fairly quickly which suprised me. I was in excellent shape as he was holding 99.

The dealer laid down the flop and in the window was a king! So I was pretty much home. THEN he uncovered the other two cards on the flop... 9 and 9! So I flop a full house kings full of nines and old mate hits four of a kind nines and my tournament is over just like that. It just so happened that I got knocked out of the tournament right around the time that the siren went and my Dees lost by 105 points. Good times.

If any maths nuts out there could tell me the odds of pocket kings hitting trip kings and getting beaten by a lower pair hitting four of a kind I would be very greatful.

Was down in the Demons rooms after yesterdays game, and because of the poor signals in the MCG my phones internet isn't great.
So I was talking to Salem and asked him what injury he sustained, because at the ground we had no idea, and he obviously said "oh hamstring mate".
So I replied jokingly with, "thanks for ruining my SC season", as a joke and he goes "you shouldn't have started with me anyway" hahaha.
I'd disagree, I thought he's been a very handy pickup this year... Until yesterday when sh*t hit the fan :D :p

Down in the rooms with your new besty ?
Thought it was an interesting call for him to drop himself. I actually believe if he played in one of the stronger teams, Hawthorn, Sydney, he would be a excellent player with some better players around him. There would be a lot less pressure on him he had of gone at no 2 in the draft rather than no 1.

That's exactly what I think as well Creeker. Would love to see him in a good team, and wouldn't mind if the Hawks went after him as a replacement for Shaun Burgoyne in a couple of years time. He's an athlete, and a good user of the ball, as you say, in a good team I think he would go alright. Apparently he went alright in the 2's yesterday and with a couple of injuries and poor performances by some players yesterday it wouldn't surprise me if he was back in the 1's next week. :)

Assuming after going all in you are heads-up against the other player, the approx. respective percentage of winning the hand are:

Pre-flop: You (79.22) v Opponent (20.37)
After the flop: You (98.25) v Opponent (1.75)
At the turn: You (97.37) v Opponent (2.63)
After the river: You've truly recorded a BAD BEAT!

Like you, I also love my poker and have been on the end of some 'Bad Beats' so know exactly how gutted you feel.

In a way, the strategies we employed whilst playing poker is similar to trading throughout the SC season so I think this has a 'positive' effect.
