I'd be pretty nervous if I was a Dayne Beams owner...

DAYNE Beams' injured right shoulder is hanging by a thread, with the star Brisbane Lions' midfielder believed to be contemplating surgery before season's end.
After carrying the injury for a number of weeks, Beams subluxed the shoulder against Melbourne last Sunday, but is expected to play against North Melbourne at the Gabba on Saturday night.
When asked about it on Wednesday, the 25-year-old was putting on a brave face.
"It's obviously a little bit sore at the moment," Beams said.
"I'm getting it strapped and it's staying in place.
"I think at this stage of the year, most AFL players are carrying something. For me it's no different.
"I'm still fronting up and going out there to play and it's not worrying me out there, I don't think about it.
"It's a little bit sore, but I'm right to go."
When asked whether he would see the season out, Beams was more hesitant.
"We'll have to wait and see, I'm not too sure at the moment," he said.
"That'll be up to myself and the medical stuff, projecting forward in a few weeks.
"We'll look at it and make a call from there."
Beams has been worth every dollar the Lions paid to lure him from Collingwood in the off-season.
He has played all 15 matches and would be comfortably leading the club's best and fairest.
Despite playing in obvious discomfort, Beams has carried a midfield decimated by injuries for much of the season, and averaged 29 disposals and almost seven clearances a game.
Following Sunday's loss against the Demons, where they kicked a paltry four goals, Beams said the Lions had to be braver against North Melbourne.
"I think we've got to take the game on a little bit," he said.
"We were playing around the boundary and playing safe. It's not the way we've played the last few weeks when we've been in games against some pretty good opposition.
"For whatever reason we went inside our shells against Melbourne and it cost us. We'll be looking to take the game on a little more, I think."

He has to go if you have him. Not only will he bleed cash, he will also bleed points. Absolutely kills me to do it, but am thinking long term.
Those that dont have GAJ it is a blessing.
It is pointless him playing out the season, absolutely no gain in him playing (only individual honours, All Australian, B&F etc) but you'd think the Lions will patch him up and put him in cotton wool for next season.
Pointless holding a trade incase the inevitable happens, if you have him and you have trades has to go this week.
Otherwise he could cost you league final games.

This sounds a bit like a 'I want a POD' post haha
Yes Beams is sore. Yes he went under a 100 last week. But the fact of the matter is he has been sore for a while and has had fantastic numbers. Trades at this time of year mean absolutely everything, so unless I am going into a grand final and need to kill my opponents POD, I am holding all of my players until they are ruled out!

Nothing POD about the post, just stating the truth. It is similar to planning 2 weeks ahead to get a player in that has a high B/E. Beams will not play out the season, if he does it is very careless on the Lions medicos behalf to let an injured player (that needs surgery) play when there is nothing to gain in the season proper. He is the Lions best player at the moment and what do you think the opposition will do to him when they play on him? Test out his shoulder ALA Viney v GAJ in rnd 1. Thats all it will take to put him on the sidelines too.
I would love for him to play out the season personally as I have finished my side almost and have all the must have players in my team (Beams is/was a must have)
I am in a position of not knowing what to do with him. I am just worried incase I carry him like I have with Brodie Smith and I have to loophole him week in week out.

Murray Newman’s potential return for West Coast Eagles hinges on Josh Hill
AN emotional playing comeback for West Coast forward Murray Newman against Sydney today rests with a last minute injury check on goal-shark Josh Hill.
Newman is on standby to play for the first time in three years should Hill fail a late medical check to shoulder soreness still lingering from last week’s win over Collingwood in Melbourne.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson confirmed that emerging big defender Tom Barrass will play and spend at least some of his AFL debut on the league’s premier scoring danger Lance Franklin.
“He’s done enough to warrant selection, I said that a few weeks ago, he’s playing at a level that given an opportunity we would expose him to the big time,” Simpson said.
“He will get a real good opportunity to play on the best forward in the competition.
“At times everyone will play on Buddy at some stage, we don’t necessarily lock down on the key match-ups but there’s going to be times when he’s going to be needed to play on Buddy, but we’re there to play as a unit.”
Simpson said Newman was a stand-by player but confirmed the 2011 first-round draft pick and rookie elevation this week was on the brink of resuming his stalled AFL career.
Newman, 21, was held out of Eagles’ affiliate team East Perth yesterday and will play only his fifth senior game with a late call-up, after the lively small forward spent six months in jail last year.
Simpson clarified that Newman is not about to replace Hill, who has booted 25 goals from an average of 13 disposals an outing from 13 games this season.
“We’re really, really happy with Hill. He got a knock in his shoulder so it was more of a precaution to put (Newman) in the squad,” Simpson explained.
“Murray is playing at a level that I see some AFL qualities, so he’s in the squad for a reason.
“I’m more than happy to play Murray if his position is up for grabs, even if we lose a forward.”
Simpson also revealed that star defender Jeremy McGovern has had a better than expected assessment on his strained hamstring and will press for selection against Gold Coast on Saturday.
It seems more likely that the reliable full-back will return in a fortnight for successive engagements with competition heavyweights Hawthorn and Fremantle at home.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire is "hopeful" star forward Lance Franklinwill be available to take on Adelaide next Saturday.
Franklin injured his back on Friday and was a late withdrawal from the side that lost to West Coast by 52 points on Sunday.
"He hurt it on Friday, so it was just too short – it's only two days later - to be able to get up and play," Longmire said.
"So, we flew him back this afternoon to get him back into Sydney and get his rehab underway and we're hopeful he's available this week."
McGovern is unavailable to face Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium next Saturday night but may return to play Hawthorn in a fortnight.
