Gary Ablett update
Every time I read about him I feel better about being anti-Ablett.

GOLD Coast superstar Gary Ablett will not play a game *before Round 1, but the Suns insist his ankle injury is not a concern.

The Suns confirmed Ablett wouldn’t play against Adelaide on Friday night and would also miss the scratch match against Queensland local team Aspley on the dead weekend before Round 1.

They also confirmed the minor sprain in his ankle a month ago had become a *tendon injury.

Gold Coast head of football Marcus Ashcroft told the Herald Sun on Monday night: “With Gaz, it’s a tendon in the foot, a *ligament.

“He sprained it a few weeks back and it was minor, but *because Gaz has done so much training during the pre-season and done a lot of match *simulations stuff, it’s a no-risk with him.

“He won’t play this week, he’s not 100 per cent, but we know with another three weeks to go, he’ll be fine.”

Cursed Eagle Mitch Brown will miss 8 weeks after finger surgery. Get him out of your #supercoach backline!

Why? This is an injury thread & that tweet from Superfooty showed the full details of his injury
I think that was more tongue in cheek from IAC, don't think he was serious ;)

This Ablett stuff has me very concerned. At what stage do we stop saying 'but it's Ablett' and take this stuff into consideration.

As stupid as it sounds, this is the number 1 reason why he hasn't left my side. I can just imagine a 150 as everyone's skipper in round 1, and us brave souls who decided it was better not to start with him for whatever reason start the year 50+ points behind the pack

Rotten luck for Mitch Brown coming off his ACL injury. He was going to be up against it trying to earn a spot in the best 22 anyway as Will Schofield has gone past him.

This Ablett news is pretty concerning. I would have liked to have gotten at least 1 game in to look at him. I'm really not sure If I will start with him now after being burnt last year with him at the start.

So is it a tendon or ligament injury?

There is significant recovery times between the two...

What's this about an ankle?

Ablett's injury relates to the sesamoid bone in his big toe - so in answer to your question, THCLT, tendon.

Is Mark Robinson drunk again?

LITS, Brown's injury shouldn't affect Hurn's rebounding role, should it?
No not at all.

We will play with Mackenzie and Schofield as our tall backs with McGovern being the third tall/loose man/swingman. Wellingham, Sheppard and Hurn will be free to run off half back.

I expect Hurn to return to his regular role of 2014 now that he doesn't have to play as a tall defender. We should see more of him setting up play from half back and also more of him up the ground kicking long into the 50.

Brown was more than likely going to be back-up and will find it hard to get a game I think.

So Hurn's in your team then?
He's been in and out a few times. But he's currently in.

He's priced at 76 but I think he should return to an avg of between 88-95. So he represents pretty good value if he can get back to what he has been averaging during his career. He has averaged 88 in the 6 year period before last season.

With Mackenzie coming back it changes a lot in our backline, The continued emergence of McGovern also means less attention for Hurn. He should also feel a lot more comfortable with the Captain's role in his second season.

I think it's pretty safe to assume last year was a one off with our backline problems. He should bounce back.

Thanks heaps for the insight LITS! Hurn is currently in my D3 position, and it's been one of those situations where he is mentioned so little in SC circles that you begin wondering why. I am pretty confident he can be a D5/6 keeper. Massive POD, could be a real find for us mate!

In order: 93, 91, 87, 86, 84, 82

Sure, you can explain away last seasons 75 with all of their backline woes, but 88 would be his third best season ever and 95 would be a career best. He is entering his 11th season, so I would argue he is a known quantity. Also, he played 18 games in 2014, 12 games in 2013 and 15 games in 2010 so I would have mild concerns about his durability.

For mine, at $400k he is awkwardly priced. If he scores his 88 average, you would be mildly disappointed with him as a keeper, but he wouldn't generate any cash in order to upgrade.

I think the important thing to remember is that there is a difference between "underpriced" and "value". It all boils down to what you want to get out of a player. If you are picking him as a keeper believing he can average 90+, power to you. I'm not sold.
