McGovern on track for Demons, Schofield faces test

The “Interceptor” – West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern – should be fit to play against Melbourne on Saturday afternoon at Domain Stadium.

McGovern received a knock on the thumb in the first half of Sunday’s seven-point victory against Carlton but played out the match and is expected to be available to tackle the Demons in a match that looms as a challenge for the Eagles.

Star midfielder Matt Priddis and rebounding defender Will Schofield also received knocks against the Blues but should play.

Priddis received a cork to his thigh while Schofield copped a head knock in the dying seconds of the clash.

Schofield has shown concussion like symptoms but has progressed well during the week.

Clearly the club will take no risks with him and the livewire defender will need to pass the necessary cognitive tests before being considered to combat the Dees.

At the start of the year, I basically resolved to hold for two week injuries, and trade for injuries flagged as 3+.

Given how many two week injuries have dragged on, I'm not sure that has been a helpful rule ... But surely you shouldn't trade for one week, so what to do?!

Something people seem to ignore is that usually players score well below their premium output when they come back. I myself stuffed this up by not trading Wells when he was out.

I have set the bar at a minimum of 150 pts for points you want to gain from a trade. 1 week clearly won't get you 150 points. 2 weeks might if you're saving donuts OR the player you trade in can outscore a rookie score by 60+ a week and you make up points on your traded out player. 3 weeks is a must trade out at this stage unless they are the TOP or close to top averaging player in their line. Although, if you're on your last couple of trades though, you might be better off holding off until you cop donuts (which I am going to do with Deledio).

I've taken the aggressive approach to injury trades this year so it remains to be seen if it works for me with my lack of remaining trades, but looking good re: Wells so far. I thought he had more cons than pros in holding due to his injury history, popularity, etc. I also expected him to become a tagging target, which I did get a bit lucky with first up tag from Mitchell. Will be interesting to see how teams tackle Wells/Goldy from here on in after what Port did to them.

Carlton skipper Marc Murphy has nominated the round 20 clash against St Kilda as the likely return date from an ankle injury that has already sidelined him for almost two months.
Murphy suffered a high ankle sprain, which involved syndesmosis damage, against Geelong in round 10 and the injury has taken far longer than expected to heal.

I'd be mighty tempted to trade him in if he has a good first game back as a M9...

Very happy that I got rid of Adams last week.
Too injury prone to be kept as bench cover...
I've had a lot of luck recently with the players I've traded out - Libba, Wells, Adams, Kerridge, AMT all just before quiet runs or injuries......

....if only I could say the same for those I'm bringing in!

Bulldogs sack rookie after 'failing to find his feet' at AFL level

Ryan Davidson July 20, 2016 12:03 PM

Luke Goetz has been sacked by the Western Bulldogs

WESTERN Bulldogs rookie Luke Goetz has been sacked by the club, who have terminated his contract by mutual agreement.

Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe said, "After some promising early signs, Luke had difficulties finding his feet in an elite AFL program."

"It was mutually agreed that the level of commitment required to be an AFL player was too difficult for Luke at this stage of his life.'

Would CD actually remove him from the list of available players if his contract has been terminated?
I seem to recall that this happened with someone else a few years ago (although my memory could be faulty on this matter).

was it Glass from West Coast Eagles did he retire during the season, I seem to remember at the end of the season looking at Stats and he was missing or Beau Waters although I think he retired before the season started due to injury.

Over to you LITS :)

Colin Sylvia?? I reckon you could still see him if he was in someones team but you couldn't trade him in or anything if i recall correctly, i think there was a "#" before his name.
