Do we know what's happening in Round 9? Is it best 18 players like regular bye rounds or is it normal and we'll just have to cover the donuts? The answer to this definitely effects how many Port and Gold Coast players you can start.

OK my general rule for this year early when I saw the fixture was no GC or Port Premo's unless they are too good to refuse due to the early bye. They make good upgrade targets after this round.

At this stage I can't see any names leaping out to challenge this one for me so PORT and GC rookies only in my starting team I think.

Am I overplaying the potential points loss in R9 by starting Port or GC premo's?
It really depends on what points you expect the GC/Port Premiums to score up until that point. You replace them with a Rookie score in Round 9, and you lose 30 to 50 points for each one you have. This then has to be off set against any point advantage you think they may have over picks in the first 8 Rounds, PLUS any point advantage you gain by carrying them through the other 3 bye Rounds. If you are able to bring in all the ones you wanted between Rounds 10 and 11, then this 2nd part is 0, but it doesn't always work out that way, when you long term plan your trades.

Given the round where the Geelong/Adelaide game was cancelled became best 18, I think we can safely assume this too will be best 18.

That's awesome news Goodies.
We all may not like Hawthorn, but we all love Roughy.
Gotta pick him now don't we!? Had a family member impacted by melanoma. I might have to VC him every week. Great news.

Probably not, especially if you plan to simply copy/paste them with just some minor tweeks from one site to another. Although SCS has a good relationship with the site that l think you are planning to write it for, especially as they attended one of our SCS Meetups, we have no direct relationship as such, and generally it is not a good idea to have duplicate content on non related websites.

We have lots of people on here who visit and comment on other sites/groups, as a general guideline it is common courtesy to write 'fresh' rather than copy/paste on each site, even if the general gist of what you are saying is the same for each group.
I mean, I've already gotten them published for this other website, and if I post a link and say 'what would people like to see in future articles'. I'd simply be posting the link, much like we do for Herald Sun and the age articles, rather than reusing content.

But it would be a link promoting what is largely a rival SC site.
Jay's policy has always been, they won't be promoting my site, so I won't be promoting theirs.
No stress, no animosity, just a healthy respect for each other.

I'm certain that you're not the only one who has published for this "other website" (We all know what it is). I'd just avoid posting external links.

In the case of Hartlett the points lost would have to be balanced against the savings if you think he is underpriced.

Just on the player analysis question, if it has been purpose written for elsewhere we would prefer it not to be posted here.

With that said, if anyone wants to do analysis on other interesting players and post them here feel free to! We would love it if you did :)

The mod squad will be releasing our first piece over the next 24 hours. We don't expect others to go into as much detail as we have but 100% would like there to be some thought and content behind it.

Hearing rumours that the first mod article is on Elliot Yeo and why you should totally pick him next year...

Bit of info on the JLT Community series (the old Nab cup).

Magpies v Bombers to kick off 2017 pre-season matches

THE RECONSTITUTED Essendon will kick off the rebadged AFL pre-season competition with a Thursday night Etihad Stadium clash with Collingwood on February 16.

And further life has been breathed into summer football with great modern rivals Hawthorn hosting Geelong in Launceston at what is now called University of Tasmania Stadium the following evening.

With the JLT Community Series, the AFL has stuck with the three-games-over-four-weeks format for every club and at venues right around the country, but there will be a change in scheduling in 2017, with Etihad Stadium hosting four matches over the opening three weeks and none in the final week while it reverts back to concert mode.

"There's going to be more excitement, more so than normal with Essendon rolling out their full squad," said AFL general manager of fixturing and operations, Travis Auld. "It will be a big game for us and a great way to kick it off."

A feature of this year's schedule is the number of matches set for suburban Melbourne venues.

As revealed exclusively on AFL.com.au on November 12, Arden Street will host its first official League game since 1985 when North Melbourne meets Hawthorn on Sunday, February 26. The Western Bulldogs will host Melbourne the week before at Whitten Oval, while Carlton and St Kilda will play at Ikon Park (Princes Park) on Saturday, March 4.

Auld admitted there would be some logistical challenges in bringing Arden Street back to life as an AFL match venue, but no more than some of the regional venues where matches were played this year.

As is the case every year, club members are admitted free to JLT Community Series matches and there is every chance that North's traditional home might be sold out for the clash against a traditional rival.

Some of the more exotic locations for JLT Community Series games include a Greater Western Sydney-West Coast clash at Narrendera in southwest New South Wales, a Sydney-North Melbourne clash at Co*** Harbour, a West Coast-Fremantle match at Wonthella in suburban Geraldton and Port Adelaide-Richmond match in Mount Gambier.

Mackay gets another opportunity to host a game after last year's washout when Gold Coast meets Essendon, while another SANFL venue comes on stream over the final weekend when South Adelaide's home ground at Noarlunga hosts matches on consecutive days – Adelaide-Brisbane Lions on the Saturday and Port Adelaide-Hawthorn the following afternoon.

Another feature on Sunday, March 12, the final day of the pre-season, is Geelong-Essendon at Bendigo's storied Queen Elizabeth Oval, giving Cats skipper Joel Selwood the opportunity to play in his home town.

"These towns look forward to the games," Auld said. "We work with cricket and local councils to create great legacy outcomes in terms of facilities. Towns like Moe that have done it tough in recent times get to host Richmond and Collingwood in what will be a great game."

Once again, all 27 matches will be televised live on Fox Footy and live streamed through the official AFL App.

Metricon Stadium, Domain Stadium and Manuka Oval are existing AFL venues that will also host pre-season matches.

Several AFL pre-season matches will comprise double-headers that also feature the new AFL Women's competition.

Auld said there was little consideration given to re-introducing a pre-season Grand Final, with AFL coaches content to play three matches over four weeks.

"Essentially, the pre-season competition is there to prepare players for round one and the home and away season, and this format serves that purpose quite well," he said.

Suns name Lynch and May as co-captains

GOLD Coast has appointed Tom Lynch and Steven May as co-captains for next season.

The pair replaces Gary Ablett, who recently stepped down as skipper after six seasons at the helm, having unsuccessfully requested a trade back to Geelong at the end of this season.

Lynch and May, both 24, shared the captaincy duties at the tail end of 2016 after Ablett required shoulder surgery and missed the final seven matches.

Coach Rodney Eade said the Suns had spent a lot of time in the past two years identifying and developing the next generation of leaders.

"Steven and Tom have stood out throughout that process and their appointment as captains is recognition of their commitment to leading the future direction of the Gold Coast Suns," Eade said.

"Both guys have demonstrated they have the capabilities to lead and drive the team.

"And when Gary injured his shoulder last season we believed they were ready to take the next step and together they took the group to another level."

Lynch has been a member of the player leadership group since 2014, claiming back to back club champion awards and earning All Australian selection last season.

May joined the leadership group in 2015 and has developed into one of the best full-backs in the game.

Hi IDIG

Just wondering if you were going to do screen shots of the top 15/20 players prices in the 4 positions again for next season.

Cheers

JPK to captain Sydney!
Hmmm ... will there be fewer games in which he coasts to a 90 on this basis? Always seems to try harder in big games, with the odd mini-break thrown in.

Basically always an under-rated pick, perhaps a little more attractive if he's pushing harder because of the captaincy.
