what an absolute joke the afl site hasnt included the 2002 grand final in the grandest final choices

hardly a surprise but i wonder if it had been collingwood that won if it would have been included then?

Does anyone know where the analysis of the past winners are? I'm curious to see how many risks these winners took with their starting team (that paid off).

Hawthorn’s leadership group will take on a new look in 2017 with Jarryd Roughead to captain the side.

Since being drafted by Hawthorn with pick two in the 2004 National Draft, Roughead has built a stellar career that includes 231 games, four premierships, and a Coleman Medal.

His current tally of 491 goals is the sixth most of any Hawthorn player in history and he has been named an All Australian on two occasions.

Although humbled by his new title, the 29-year-old is excited to jump into the role.

“I’m honoured to be captaining the Hawks this year,” said Roughead.

“It’s an enormous responsibility but I’m ready for the challenge and can’t wait to lead this group of players.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play under one of our game’s best captain’s in Hodgey and I’ll certainly take a lot of what he has taught me into the role.

“To be backed by the players and the club, it’s a really special feeling.”

Roughead will take over the reins from teammate and three-time premiership Captain Luke Hodge.

Hodge, who has captained the club since 2010, believes the time is right for a fresh face to lead the Hawks.

“I think Rough is the right man to lead the club in 2017.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to captain the Hawthorn Football Club but I think it’s the perfect time for Rough to take the reins.

“I’ve had the opportunity to see him grow and develop as a leader and there is no better person to lead our club in 2017.

“I’ve always thought I’d like to be around to help out and support my successor so I’m rapt that Rough’s appointment means I’ll have the opportunity to do that.”

Hodge captained the side for 125 games, the fourth most of any Hawthorn captain. During his tenure he led the Hawks in 17 finals and three premierships.

In addition to their new captain, the Hawks will also have a trio of fresh faces in their leadership group with Liam Shiels, Ben Stratton and Jack Gunston all voted in by their teammates.

Shiels and Isaac Smith will assume vice-captaincy duties, with Gunston, Stratton, Hodge and Josh Gibson set to round out the seven-man leadership team.

Two questions related to the above, love to hear opinions:
1) Does Hodge not being Captain any more change things re: his role, place in team etc.? At Sydney, former captains KJack and McVeigh are likely to see less time in their traditional roles and on the pitch.
2) Is this more than a ceremonial, nice to do, give him a boost move? I hope so.

1) Hodge will still be as vocal as ever on the field, I don't think this changes his role or place in the team much at all. Can't see it having any impact on his fantasy scoring; hodge probably relished more having the extra responsibility as captain.
2) Might appear ceremonial on face value but roughy has been a vice captain for a while and it was either him or lewis that were in line for next captain.

Absolutely huge news that Roughy gets the captaincy in my eyes. Shows a lot of confidence. I'm going to pencil him into my F4 position.

Supercoach 2017 opens sometime this week. Fairly sure it will open tomorrow (Tuesday). There was a banner in the HS that said Supercoach 2017 opens in 11 days. It was published on Jan 13th.
