Not too much disagreement there ... almost everyone seemed to pick the same four players, and quite a few voted identically.
Yeah throw a blanket over those four if you ask me, only time will tell which one turns out the best.

Re Witherden. He is not Victorian and does not play for a Victorian based team. Means you are behind the 8 ball immediately.
will always be the case when a National comp is formed from essentially a State based competition.

Given 10 of the 18 teams are from one state , many WA, SA, NSW , QLD players have had amazing careers that probably have not been fully recognised by the Melbourne media.

eg Pavlich , Priddis, Robbie Gray, JPK , Zorko etc etc

interesting Hipwood got 5 votes

14 of the 25 winners of the award have been at a non Victorian Club while 16 of 25 of them grew up outside of Victoria.

Ablett won the Suns Best & Fairest despite missing 8 games.

I know he is a champion , but their playing list all need to have a good hard look at themselves and decide if they are fair dinkum or not.

Also I hear that Witts didn't make the top 10. Someone please explain how that could be. Surely he was comfortably in their best 5 players, let alone 10 for the season.

It used to be a pretty common practice. If you had a bonus clause in your contract, that was triggered by a good B&F performance, the club would "make sure" you didn't get your bonus!

Maybe the coaches just didn't give any votes some weeks!
What if an opposition player could win their B&F. They played Hawthorn twice, maybe Tom Mitchell was the real winner.

Gold Coast's five-man match committee award a maximum of five votes each to an unlimited number of players each match, meaning the maximum votes a player can receive for any match is 25.

Top 10

1st – Gary Ablett 126
2nd – David Swallow 106
3rd – Jack Martin 104
4th – Tom Lynch 101
5th – Aaron Hall 97
6th – Jarryd Lyons 91
7th – Jarrod Harbrow 79
8th – Touk Miller 70
9th – Steven May 66
10th – Adam Saad 64

more likely it is in his contract that he gets votes even if he misses games.

7 seasons in and looking no better and now likely the great Gazza will retire or leave ? (has he been holding the club back ? certainly can't question his perfromances on the field, but always been stories of different training standards, how he won't take supplements, injections for injuries ?

too many young players at the start, believing their own publicity at 19, too much money, too much time on their hands and caught up in the Gold Coast (party) style, sounds like it has been a 7 year schoolies week for many.

shocking injury run year after year, is this due to preparation and players lack of rehab/recovery.

Bennell, Dixon, O'Meara, Prestia , Smith all gone , love to see the turnover of players since the inception.

I remember they got Brennan and Fraser, Krakour ? think Rischitelli and Habrow were among the originals with Ablett.

be a huge worry if Lynch or May leave in the next year or so.

The fact that SPP got max votes from the only 2 non Victorian judges backs this up immensely. As much as AFL is "Australia's game" it's still very much the VFL with some interstate clubs.

SC Finals Competition - Congratulations 'All is Wells'

No salary cap, no captain, no cost...No worries!

Entry is FREE and UP FOR GRAB is a spot in next year SCS $50 cash league to the eventual winner!

This is a SCS Finals Competition which will run throughout the four weeks of the AFL Finals Series. Rules and selections will alter slightly from week to week as outlined below. The participant with the highest total cumulative score at the completion of the Grand Final will be deem the winner of the competition. In the event of 2 or more participants ending up with the same total cumulative score, the participant with the higher ranking in the previous week will be awarded the title.

WEEK I

2 x QFs and 2 x EFs

1. Select ONE Defender, ONE Midfield, ONE Ruck & ONE Forward from each of the FOUR games (players' position as per SuperCoach). You'll have 16 players in total and their combined SC score will count towards your weekly total.

2. For each of the FOUR games, select a TEAM and your prediction for their TOTAL MATCH SCORE (for example, ADE 100). The ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE of your predicted total match score and the actual match score will be DEDUCTED from your weekly total.

WEEK II

2 x SFs

1. Select TWO Defenders, THREE Midfields, ONE Ruck & TWO Forwards from each of the TWO games (players' position as per SuperCoach). You'll have 16 players in total and their combined SC score will count towards your weekly total.

2. For ALL FOUR TEAMS involved in the SFs, nominate your prediction for their TOTAL MATCH SCORE. The ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE of your predicted total match scores and their actual match scores will be DEDUCTED from your weekly total.

WEEK III

2 x PFs

Same rules as Week II

1. Select TWO Defenders, THREE Midfields, ONE Ruck & TWO Forwards from each of the TWO games (players' position as per SuperCoach). You'll have 16 players in total and their combined SC score will count towards your weekly total.

2. For ALL FOUR TEAMS involved in the PFs, nominate your prediction for their TOTAL MATCH SCORE. The ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE of your predicted total match scores and their actual match scores will be DEDUCTED from your weekly total.

WEEK IV

1 x GFs

1. Select TWO Defenders, THREE Midfields, ONE Ruck & TWO Forwards (players' position as per SuperCoach). Scores for ALL EIGHT players will be DOUBLED and their combined SC score will count towards your weekly total.

2. Nominate your predicted TOTAL GOALS and TOTAL BEHINDS for EACH TEAM involved in the GF. The ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE of your predicted TOTAL GOALS and their actual TOTAL GOALS will attract a MINUS 6 POINTS deduction FOR EACH GOAL (for example, if your prediction was 10 goals and the team scored 12 goals, then a total of 12 POINTS will be deducted from your weekly total). The ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE of your predicted TOTAL BEHINDS and their actual TOTAL BEHINDS will be DEDUCTED from your weekly total.

3. Nominate your predicted Norm Smith Medal winner. A bonus 25 points will be awarded for a correct nomination, no points deducted for an incorrect nomination.

IMPORTANT NOTE

1. ALL weekly entries MUST be submitted to me via PM no later than prior to the 1st bounce of the FIRST game of each week [RULE CHANGED FOR WEEK II AND BEYOND to allow more time for submission]

2. If and only if, your nominated player is a 'late withdrawal', you can choose another player as a replacement from the same game in the same position.

Only changes received prior to the start of the affected game will be considered valid.

All changes received after this will be deemed void and you'll be awarded the LOWEST scorer for the player (matching position) who was a late withdrawal [Updated 8/9/17], the same applies if you fail to submit a change.

Note that the first game of WEEK I starts this Thursday at 7:50pm AEST

I will endeavour to post ALL selections and nominations prior to commencement of each week and provide weekly update on overall leaders.

Do you think it's just Melbourne based judges believing the hype of the Melbourne centric media around Victorian clubs?

Yeah probably mate. They write articles to sell papers, not many Victorians want to hear about the Crows or the Dockers and vice versa. When you get saturated by hype it surely affects your decision in the end. It is what it is ,McGrath a deserving winner IMO.
