Hey Rowsus,

Just wanted to get your thoughts on trading Gawn to Nic Nat or Kruezer next week.

I have Gawn pegged at 120 for the year, so would his average have to be around 110 from here on in order to match come years end which I think Nic Nat or Kreuzer could match and the extra game plus cash would make the trade worth while.

If you think the trade is worthwhile, who do you think out of Kruezer or Nic nat is a better option ?

Thanks in advance
Can I please expand this question if it's not too much trouble. I traded Gawn to McKernan a couple of weeks ago. Should I pick up Ryder, Nic Nat or Kreuzer this week or wait for Grundy or Gawn with a price drop after their bye? I assume being able to field 18 this week would change the equation.

Hilsen.
If your trades aren't needed elsewhere, I'd go NicNat this week. See below.
Hyg dig!

Hey Rowsus. Would you consider trading Gawn to one of Kreuzer/Ryder/Witts a worthwhile trade?
To expand on this, how about Gawn to Nic Nat?

- Nic Nat has been eased back by only playing 50-65% TOG and in 6 of those 10 games he still scored 100+. His last 3 games have been promising with him averaging 118, could we see him come back after the bye and continue that form, or do even better with more TOG?
I am also contemplating trading Gawn however all of the above forementioned all have a history of injuries.
I have Nic Nat but heard Simmo say they had planned to rest him at some stage. Obviously, the bye last week but I reckon once they have top four or if possible top two they will rest him again before the finals.
Kreuzer has continued to battle injuries so although he could score well I think Carlton may throw him in cotton wool early with nothing to play for.
I am leaning towards Ryder but watching him have to manage his Achilles during the game is a concern and now I am having second thoughts.
So I may just hold Gawn but interested to hear your thoughts Rows.
I am guessing though if you can use the cash effectively elsewhere eg. Upgrade another Rookie to a premium and you have the trades it could be worth the risk

I am contemplating Holman, Gawn, Guelfi to Ryder, Buddy and Martin (back in)
Not sure I'm in love with Martin coming back in so quickly. Maybe having the courage of your conviction, and at least seeing how he looks is the better option. Otherwise you have used 2 trades for probably very little return!

Hi guys,
sorry, I had planned to do my usual strength of scoring for Rucks table to answer your questions.
Unfortunately, between getting trapped into a 14 hour work day on Wednesday, and the Round starting early on Thursday, time has got away from me.
Here's a general overview, and road map, that might help you to decide:
Gawn $620,300 B/E 161
Ryder $487,100 B/E 111 (+$133,200)
Kreuzer $491,900 B/E 43 (+$128,400)
Naitanui $513,700 B/E 75 (+$106,600)
Witts $479,400 B/E 105 (+$140,900)

So, you basically need to assign an opinion to each of these players. That's game count, and average from here.
Something like:

Gawn - 9/112 = 1,008
Ryder - 10/98 = 980
Kreuzer - 9/100 = 900
Naitanui - 10/103 = 1,030
Witts - 10/98 = 980

Obviously, your opinion will vary greatly, and if you have Ruck cover, you need to factor that in. My figures above assume you cop a donut if your Ruck misses a game.
I'm assuming none of them get through without missing a game, and, even though Kreuzer is the only Ruck NOT to miss a game in the second half of the season, in the past 3 seasons, I have him down as missing two games. Without Ruck cover, that excludes him in my book. Any of the other 3 look viable picks, especially NicNat, who I have down as outscoring Gawn from here (but not out averaging him). They all have their risks, without doubt. When factoring in what the loose change will produce, points wise, I'd be using something around $6,500-$7,000/points. Even though the MN is tending toward 5,000, I think it is best to be conservative, when working out how well spent cash will perform.
My figures imply, that Ryder's cash will produce around 19-20/Round, Kreuzer 18-19/Round, NicNat around 15-16/Round and Witts around 20-21/Round.
What you need to do, drive home any advantage this might produce, is look to see how the cash might be used, this week or next. Then do a rough sum ...... will it produce the points you need?
I think the incoming players B/E is something to be considered, too. Gawn has don the right thing, and given himself a large B/E. This is important, as you want the traded out player to drop in price, and it is preferable, if the traded in player is rising in value. This is your escape clause. If the trade becomes regrettable, it's a heck of lot easier to fix in this scenario, than if Gawn suddenly goes back up in price, and your replacement starts falling in price.

All things considered, if I was doing it this Round (I already did Gawn to Ryder in Round 11), I think I would take a punt on NicNat. Having said that, I'd only be doing it, if I can see an immediate use for the $106k, where you are confident it will produce a 15+/Round benefit.

row you are two from two at the moment. i loved the buddy suggestion and brought him in my side but failed to captain him.

i am not sure if i will trade in a defender or midfielder this week. it all depends if laird gets up this week.

who do you think it is best to bring in out of:
1. hurn vs simo
2. treloar, josh kelly, or gaff

thanks for all your help
I reckon Hurn's one of those players, that always looks like it might be the year he makes SC relevance, but he never quite gets there.
This year might be the year, but maybe only for those started him. Look at it this way:

2018 he is 11/100.5

In 2011 he had a stretch where he went 7/104.0, but his other 15 games were 15/72.1
In 2012 he had a stretch where he went 8/102.1, but his other 14 games were 14/85.2
In 2013 he had a stretch where he went 5/108.8, but his other 7 games were 7/72.3
In 2014 he had a stretch where he went 7/103.0, but his other 11 games were 11/76.7
In 2015 he only had one 3 game stretch that averaged over 100
In 2016 he had a stretch where he went 9/97.5, but his other 16 games went 16/76.8
In 2017 he had a stretch where he went 7/110.1, but his other 14 games went 14/77.6

Looking at those numbers, he consistently has a patch where he averages say 105 each season, but then averages 75-80 for the rest of the season.
At some point in time, in each of the last 7 seasons, he has looked like a Def you wanted. He's only had one 90+ season in that time, a 91.4!
He finished last season in amazing form, that's where his 7/110.1 streak was, but consider this:
In the 6 seasons from 2011 to 2016, his average and game count after Round 13 reads 49/81.5 with only eleven 100+ games in those 49 games.
He's 31, only ever had 2 seasons above 90 (93.4 & 91.4), and his best ever season was 10 years ago.

There's just too much history against him, to be jumping on now.
Hi Ad,
I'm happy it's working out for you!
Simpson over Hurn, for the reason above.
Treloar to outscore Kelly, but Kelly to out average Treloar, so ........ if you have strong cover, then Kelly, otherwise, Treloar.

Hey Row,

I have so many questions, would love to hear your thoughts! Currently Just inside the top 10k, my goal as always is to finish as high overall as possible. Obviously no chance of winning now, though am only about 500 points behind top 1000, which would be nice.

1. Thoughts on Dahlhaus? Haven't heard anyone mention him, perhaps for good reason. My thoughts though are that he has averaged in excess of 90 for a long time. Did his role change significantly mid-way through last season or could he be due for a few 100s to boost his average this season?

2. Do I have to go aggressive and trade out both of Hibberd and Petracca? Both have bottomed out and neither will play this week. My other valuable trade assets this week could include D Smith, ZGL, Spargo, Holman etc. I have 240k cash and am currently planning to bring in Sicily and JJK at least. Without trading I am realistically looking at 16 on field, 17 if by some miracle Barry gets a game...

My team is a shambles, mainly due to failed premium picks and unfortunate injuries...
11 trades and 240k left.

Def keepers: Laird, Howe, Lloyd, Sicily (in this week) and possibly Hibberd as a compromised keeper.
Mid keepers: Fyfe, Mitchell, Treloar, Danger, Cripps, Bont, Coniglio, Rockliff (hopefully a luxury upgrade)
Rucks: Gawn, Goldstein
Forwards: Heeney, McLean, Menegola, Gray, Smith (?), JJK (in this week) and possibly Petracca, though think I need to trade.

Plan was always to trade aggressively through the byes and hang on with 5-6 trades and a full team. Not sure if that's possible now.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Cheers
Hey MC
I'll revisit this tomorrow. I'm coming off a 14 hour work day, and leave home again in just under 7 hours, to go back to work.
First things first. I don't like Dahl. Never have, never had him in my side, ever, not even last season.
I'm trading out Hibberd and Spargo this week.
Unless you are really keen on Dahl, in which case you should get him, I will come up with my suggested trades after the Port v WBull game. I won't be hom until just before it starts.

Hi Rowsus,
time to put your Wilbur Post hat on again, as I have some questions going straight to the source.

I'm talking League. To save a trade, do you think Fritsch or Petracca could be a reasonable F6?
Also, if you had to pick one to keep in the team for the rest of the season, who would you pick?
F/M Petracca $382,400 Avg 77 BE 71 (I have F/M Ahern on the bench in the Midfield).
MID Fritsch $416,200 Avg 78 BE 56 (Note: Fritsch's avg has improved with his new role).
Is Petracca still a possible breakout candidate?

In the soccer world cup, when Denmark plays Australia, what cap will you be wearing? :)
Hi Bermi,
sorry for the short reply. I think both will be regrettable F6's, and will both be in the 75-80 area, maybe low 80's from here. That being the case, if forced to keep one, keep Petracca, and trade Fritsch. More money from trading Fritsch, and more flexibility by keeping Petracca. Ideally trade both, or get one to F7, if possible.

Aus, all the way, but happy to cheer for Den, when they're not playing Aus.

hellloo, i was wondering what's the attraction of bont as a pick that you have thought of? I have my own reasons for wanting to trade him in but not sure if they are valid or not
Hi GFB,
it's a combination of things, really.
I'm expecting Macrae to come back to the field, as it seems just so unlikely he can keep going at this pace. The Bont is good in form, having had 4 x 120+'s in his last 5 games, but his price doesn't reflect that, due to that 79 and 47 in his score line. If Macrae does comeback to 105-110, then someone will pick up those points, and it seems the Bont might be the best candidate.
You are right about his Forward time. He is spending some time at Full Forward each game, sort of a Dangerfield type model! :)
Pretty much this. He has shown the ability to score high, over a decent period of games, which not every "candidate" can say!

One potential trade I have floated is
Hibberd/Petracca/Holman --> Rance, Sicily, JJK

Leaves me with 8 trades, 28 cash but only 1 definite defender (Howe) for next week before trades.
If I trade Smith instead of Holman I can basically grab any defender I want (582k) so perhaps Yeo/Simpson?

My concern is that with these trades, my team isn't much closer to completion, I'm simply swapping a forward prem for a defender and using 3 trades to do it. Of course the players coming in are upgrades on Hibberd/Petracca, though it still feels bad!

Hello Rowsus. I would appreciate your thoughts on how many trades one should aim to keep post-bye. I will have 7 after this round with a reasonably complete team. I am actually playing myself, aiming to beat my previous year's score as I am out of the running for the big prize and not doing too well in leagues.

I have changed again! With Laird/Murphy not making it I'm down to 14 before trades... Not ideal and rules Holman out of my plans for this week. Also means I have to keep Smith and pray he makes it back next week. Too many failed premiums and sideways trades for my liking...
I floated this plan in the trade thread, thoughts?

I haven't even worked out this week's trades, let alone next week!
My current plan though is:

Rd 13
Petracca -> JJK
Hibberd -> Sicily
Then perhaps:
ZGL -> Giro (via Menegola)

8 trades and 275k ready for next week

Rd 14:
Holman (370k) -> Ahern (125k)
Spargo (240k) -> Hurley/Rance (450-460k)
Austin/Rice/Murphy/Keeffe (+300k) -> Def premium, might go for a POD like Crisp/McGovern or counter against Yeo/TMac... Not worried about Simpson.

Team complete. Rocky at M8, Rance/Hurley D6, JJK F6, Goldy R2
5 trades and not alot of cash.

Hi MC,
Sorry if this comes up a bit scratchy, I'm doing it on my phone.
I don't mind you being forced to keep Smith, as I was going to recommend that anyway. Also, I would prefer to trade Spargo, and keep ZGL for now, where possible.
I think Hibberd to Sicily is a definite, then it come down to options.
I think it is either Petracca/Spargo to JJK/Giro, or if you really want to be aggressive, Gawn/Spargo to Nicnat/JJK.
The 2nd one lets you avoid Giro, who may have dodgy JS, and maybe concentrate on Ahern next week. Having said that, I'm getting Giro this week, for convenience reasons, not due to a high opinion of him.
Good luck, whichever way you jump.

Hi siwel,
it looks ok, but obviously there has been at least one big change since you posted.
Do you stick with Macrae?!
Apart from that game changer, the only thing i'd say is, you seem to be getting one or two too many deadwood's on your bench. I know you have trades to cover outs, but I'd prefer to have cover built in, than rely on trades.
Other than those 2 observations, it all looks ok.

Hi Xabi,
generally his history. I know he managed 21 games in 2016/17, but in general, he misses more games than that in a season. In addition, given how Carlton are travelling, if Kreuzer looks like he needs off-season surgery, he could easily be given a early exit to the season. That won't happen with NicNat, as he is integral to WC's finals plans.
I will agree with your approach, and anybody playing Leagues should really be looking at the Draw, and how those last Rounds play out, and pick their final Keepers with an eye on who those players will be playing against, in the SC Finals.

Hi Cattle,
it varies on personal goals. Given your goal, I'd say if you have a complete team, that 5 would be pretty ideal.
Good luck, I hope you make those leaps up the Rankings ladder! :)

Hi Cookie,
4 x 100+'s in a row, though one was because Sandi went down, and Goldy motored in the last quarter. Two of the other three were against "non-Rucking" teams, in Geelong and GWS.
He seems to have more easy Rucking games ahead of him, than harder ones (my count is 6-4), so I'd be tempted to back Goldy in.
I think given the cash component, Gawn to NicNat beats Goldy to NicNat.

Thanks Row took the plunge first nicnat game as an owner wasn’t looking great early on looked out of form let’s hope it improves. Thanks for your cool logical assessment as always

Hi Rowsus,

Any thoughts on Wines as a selection on the run home? He's posted two big scores but historically only averaged around the 100 region. This is the most 140+ scores he's posted in a year so far too, so he might have a better ceiling. Although it feels like he's already established a scoring pattern, he's still only 23. Do you think he could push into that 105-110 bracket this season? Or is Zerrett a better bet?

Cheers
