Injury update: Round 13

Bryce Shilton

12 June 2018 5:45 PM

**

Sam Gilbert will be available for selection this week as we take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium this Saturday afternoon.

Gilbert has spent the last month sidelined after injuring his thumb in Round 8’s clash with Fremantle.*

Nathan Brown (concussion) will face tests as he looks to hold his place in St Kilda’s back-six.*

Head Physiotherapist Andrew Wallis confirmed that Brown could be available for selection should he get through Thursday’s main session.

WATCH:*Injury report

Blake Acres (groin) and Jarryn Geary (calf) have resumed running duties, while Darren Minchington (hip) and Lewis Pierce (hamstring) are on track to join the pair in being available after the bye.*

Ben Long (foot), Dylan Roberton (heart) and Koby Stevens (concussion) will continue to be assessed as they recover from long-term injuries.

## Interesting to see Gilbert coming back into the side. Does he play wing or half back.

St kilda's backline has slowly evolved with the introduction of Austin & Rice. Goddard still can't get a game, not sure if he is injured and Coffield doing well.

Bevo says potentially may lose McRae for two to three weeks with hamstring tightness and advise he could have played second half but ( won’t risk potential to lose him for 6-8 weeks if he injured further.

Do we hold or trade?

I think generally the rule is 2 hold, 3 trade but we probably won’t know for sure until he actually returns. Personally, I’d trade knowing how much value he’ll lose and keep my fingers crossed it’s 3. Many will say his value isn’t a factor if you’re keeping him but for a running machine, any type of hammy is enough reason for me to jump off. You can always bringing him back in when he bottoms out if you have the trades.

This is what Bevo said about the big 3:

Beveridge said he wasn't prepared to take a risk with Brownlow Medal fancy Macrae even though his hamstring issue was less severe.

"He felt like he could probably still go but we had to sit him down. We didn't want to lose him for 6-8 (weeks) we may lose him for two or three as it is," he said.

Boyd played on with dislocated finger and Bontempelli hyperextended his knee in the last quarter.

"He (Bontempelli) was very ginger afterwards so he lost his impact and he'd been very influential getting us back in the game," Beveridge said.

McLean’s shoulder will be monitored.

"Toby got through - he's just a tough bugger and probably shouldn't have been out there after he copped that first hit (from Robbie Gray in the opening seconds).

Went and had a look at the Bulldogs twos yesterday and was told that Boyd’s injury was actually a compound fracture. Tried to get the latest goss with Bont and McLean and it seems that it’s a wait and see with training this week.

GameDay said Bont will go for scans to check any structural damage , hopeful it is just bone bruising.

Bony , Macrae , McLean all out the same week as the Rd 14 bye would be a killer.

Only brought Bont in Thursday night.
But would be a Unicorn for non-owners and shake up the SC tables a lot, which would be a great thing...spice things up a bit.
Who doesn't like spice?

I agree more carnage the better as long as it does not affect my team :)

I think if people have loaded up on all the popular Round 14 premiums, could be some big scores by people who haven't.

Any news on Webster? Bye this week but it’d be nice to know he’s right.

Nothing definitive at this stage.

ST KILDA defender Jimmy Webster is likely to miss at least the club's next game after suffering an adductor injury in the first quarter of Saturday's match against Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old lasted just six minutes before hobbling off.

Webster went through some drills in the Saints' dressing room, including some run-throughs, but returned to the bench and was ruled out of the rest of the game.

Things only got worse for the Saints when they lost Bailey Rice after a nasty head clash with Jack Martin midway through the third quarter. He is expected to be OK for the round 15 clash against Melbourne after the bye.

JJK in doubt.

WEST Coast spearhead Josh Kennedy faces a race against time to be fit for Thursday night’s clash with Essendon, after limping through the last quarter of Friday night’s defeat to Sydney at the SCG.

The 15-point loss ended the Eagles’ 10-match unbeaten streak, with West Coast losing for the first time in club history having held a side goalless in two quarters.

Kennedy, who is carrying an ongoing Achilles issue, headed to the rooms for treatment during the last quarter and ended the game with a pronounced limp.

I wasn't aware of this. Half considered trading him in last week, so glad I stayed away

I’m on the thought process of trade him while value is high, bring him in 2 weeks after he returns at a much lower cost for someone like Holman.
