Geelong have handled themselves disgracefully regarding Kelly. He needs to go home to WA for family reasons, It's not like he is some homesick teenager, there is genuine family issues and his family needs to be back in WA.

Understand he is contracted... But West Coast have been more than fair in their offer of picks 20 & 22 (Which is the equivalent of Pick 6). Yet Geelong are demanding those picks and Our first rounder next year as well... that is ludiicrous!!

They never had any intention of trading him. Funny that when the shoe was on the other foot and they wanted a homesick Dangerfield & a homesick Ablett, they where pleading for ADE & GCS to help them and be reasonable in their dealings.

Really feel for Tim and his family, But hope we have the sense to pass on Geelong's crazy demands, use the picks to great effect in this draft and then watch Kelly walk via the draft next year for nothing.
I'd be surprised if this one doesn't get done. They are close + it should (for all the reasons you suggested)

If he's so desperate to head back to WA, why did he say he'd rather stay at Geelong than go to Fremantle? Family reasons can't be that bad if he's doing that. Geelong well within their right to do what they're doing when he has played that card, in my opinion.

Because he wants nothing to do with Fremantle and isn't interested in playing for a low ranked rebuilding team considering he is already mid 2's in age. If people where aware of his family circumstances, which can be found out on other outlets... They would have more compassion for his situation.

Just interesting that when both Dangerfield & Ablett (Who both nominated ONLY Geelong) wanted to get home for similar family reasons... That Geelong asked ADE & GCS to be fair in their dealings (Which they where). Now they have no intent on doing the same for Kelly.

Kelly made it very well known he didn't want to move from WA last year, yet Geelong jumped in just before our pick and took him... KNOWING his issues when drafting him. Kelly tried to make it work, but with his situation it has been too hard. Thus the request to move home and as EVERY single player does when requesting a trade... He nominated the club he wishes to go to (West Coast).

You can't reasonably tell me the Pick 20, 22 & next years first rounder is a fair deal for Kelly who was drafted at pick 24 last year.

There has been a few head scratching deals done.

I feel for Big Russ, as Port Adelaide seem to be centre of a few of them!

So he’s desperate to go home for family reasons as long as it’s to a contender?

I know nothing of his reasons, but I live 17,000 away from my family so can empathise.

You can understand Geelong's pain right?

Hit the draft lottery with pick 24 and won big time. Then you want to take that away with 2x pick 20 pretty much?

Ughh

I tend to agree with jaca here.
You can't say you are desperate to get home for family reasons, but will only go to Club A, but not Club B.
It means that the Club selection is the priority over family, otherwise you'd take whatever Club gets the supposed higher priority done.
I might be cold hearted, but it's hard to have sympathy in those circumstances.

Kelly also has the option of standing out of football for 2019 if he wishes too.

Interesting Bickley saying that the Crows should draft Rankine for a needs basis , over Lukosious but doesn't expect them to do that if they have the choice of the 2 of them.

Well his mistake was saying if he couldn't get to West Coast this year, that he would play next year out at Geelong and then be at West Coast in 2020. He should have said I want to go to West Coast no matter what.

Either way he should be at West Coast in 2020, and hopefully my recruiting boys have the sense to walk away this afternoon than pay ridiculous overs for him. Let him walk for nothing next year via the draft.

I take it you think 2 early second round picks and a first round pick is fair then for a guy who has played 23 games, and was drafted at pick 24 last year? Especially when comparing it too other deals that have been done.

Yep he does have that option, But no player has ever deliberately done that to get to another club.

I'm fine (In fact I would prefer) with waiting until the end of next season. Since we re-signed Gaff... Kelly is a luxury not a necessity, so no need to pay that ridiculous price Geelong are asking.

Not commenting on the fairness of the trade offered, but more on the motivation of the guy involved.

Yeah he sat out the year, but I think that was a different reason (Mental Health) to Kelly(Family Issues).

I'm pretty sure Kelly has been public with the fact that if it wasn't for the family reasons, He would have liked to have stayed at Geelong for his career. So his motivation is not to screw Geelong.
