We won't use Daniher in the ruck again. But ...

Smack & James Stewart might be used to pinch hit through there as they have in the past.
That makes sense, but I don't know who Smack is? Too early for brain quizzes for me. :)

That's an interesting thought, that there may be less re-bounces in the middle, but I wouldn't trust the stats from the JLT games, as I don't think that there is too much hard tagging going on, to force another bounce. The new rules are suppose to mean more goals will be scored, so more ruck work for the Ruckmen. Also, with less players to compete with at middle bounces, that could be advantageous to Grundy to get more of the ball?
Pies midfield, pendles, treloar, beams, sidey, sier, adams, degoey, etc etc will have cleared it forward before Grundy lands .

Go pies

Not sure if anyone has asked this but does anyone know exactly what the injury is for Zac Clark? Just knock or something a bit more sinister?

is Flynn capable of playing a KPF role ?

Historically the Giants like to use at least 3 talls forward , with Patton out leaves Cameron & Himmelberg.

Possibly could use Tomlinson or at a pinch Keefe or Finlayson.

Just thinking if they name Flynn Rd 1 can he keep his spot when the Big Mummy returns.

He hasn't looked great in that role. Simpson better suited up forward out of the two. Flynn is still a work in progress, so unless Mummy can't get on the park Flynn will be learning to dominate in the NEAFL.

Cheers for that , just looking at some possible cheap ruck options , be a lot easier if we could fast forward 10 days for Round 1 teams.

The sooner you embrace the Gawn/Grundy ruck combination the sooner you can get a good nights sleep. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

hahaha

I actually have that combo right now ?

Flynn was actually more a R3 option as it looks like Smith/Clarke/Fort don't look viable so has nothing to do with my starting Rucks.

If I get my 16 starting rookies (5-6-1-4) my team is set and ready to go.

If not adjustments will have to be made.

Can't find anything I like if I remove Gawn and the extra $$$ don't help either so yes tonight I will sleep well.

zzzzz

Cheers

Your SC record is amazing , 5 finishes in the Top 500 in 9 seasons.

Well done , very impressive.

What do you need to do differently to push on into the Top ? and ultimate honours ?
Take some more risks I think and back your judgement on players, I play a very vanilla brand of guns and rookies, doesn't change much over the years and for me most of the time it works. I learnt my lesson though a couple of years when I tried to get fancy with the rucks both in the starting squad and throughout the year, I reckon I burnt 3 or 4 trades just covering rucks - it's an area where you have few options if things go pear shaped so an added luxury of a Gawn Grundy combo is that if one goes down you have options to go to. If you go in with mid price or rookie priced rucks and no cash generation then problems start.

After all the years playing one thing doesn't change for me, I take the best on each line pretty much regardless in my starting squad and play as best I can a traditional Guns & Rookies game. I'm happy to leave mid-price options out of my team early and watch them the first couple of rounds and make corrections early. Doesn't concern me burning 4 trades first couple of weeks if it means getting the starting squad including rookies right by round 3 and then just trade smart. I have a list of who I think will be the top uber premium players in each position throughout the year and target them.

It's much harder and easier now if that makes sense, So much information out there evens the playing field.

One thing though - it's time consuming and every year I say I'm out and every year I'm back.
Went close in Dreamteam finishing 4th overall a few years back and I still blame Colin Sylvia for getting rubbed out last few rounds for costing me - but all in all it's just great fun especially with close mates.

Thanks for sharing your insights and thoughts , very informative.

I think it is probably a game of 2 parts , getting that starting side correct ASAP by nailing the right rookies then trading aggressively and smartly , and also having a lot of luck.

I tend to over complicate things , even though I know I do it , I still do it then wonder why come Round 4-6 my season is over again ,maybe this year I will KISS ?...... hahaha probably not.

Like many last season , I had 3-4 rookies on my bench that stalled after 3-4 games and made very little $$$ which ended up hard to trade in desired premiums.

You are not wrong about information overload , HS dishes out so much stuff very easy for someone to start their research on Tuesday and pick a fantastic side.

Whereas others , like us , spend months hoping to get that winning formula , it certainly is addictive.

One day it might pay off , although I think if I was ever Top ? or higher I would be a nervous wreck.

Good luck with your season.

Great colour, thanks for sharing.

Do you feel that you have been out of contention (in SC) throughout the years you have done well, or have some sliding doors moments gone against you/the cards simply not fallen your way?

I’m essentially asking if you believe you are trading off a high chance at a high finish, against a decent chance of winning, or not.

The only time I thought I could win one of these was Dreamteam a few years ago where I was top 10 for a number of weeks closing out the season and it really came down to the last round finishing 4th, even the last round teams are very similar by that stage so some unique captain choices can make or break.

Never been a chance in SC, spent several weeks inside top 50/100 but never felt I had a team to win. I also like to trade hard so I may be without trades with 3 or 4 rounds left but will usually make sure I have good bench cover.

I think you're right in your last sentence - I typically play a game that will see me rank well but not win, sometimes those winning decisions needed scare me because of the ramifications on the flip side.

Thanks, this is interesting. My sense has been that there is quite a bit of luck involved in winning (alongside quite a bit of skill, in most cases), so those who repeatedly rank highly may only need to change a couple of key decisions (starting picks or upgrade targets) to be right at the pointy end.

My take has been that the best time to do that would probably be upgrade season, when we have better info, and you've already enjoyed the benefits of a very solid base. Alternately, an unusually good run with injuries could allow a couple of valuable slingshots, and make all the difference if they go the right way.

I’m still sitting on a Grundy/Smith combo at the moment and I don’t have the cash to upgrade to Gawn. I could get there but it would take some tinkering with the rookies, I’d need a viable cheap forward rookie to swap Rozee for and I’d need to down grade ROB to Fort.

That being said I’m pretty happy with my squad at this point. It’s worth noting that Martin had 23 disposals and 16 hitouts while being up against Gawn and with Archie Smith in the side. Promising signs. I also want to be able to have a rookie ruck that’s either selected to play round one or looking like getting games at some point, don’t wanna miss that cash generation!

Archie Smith played 16% TOG after getting hit in the throat and ending up in hospital. Essentially Martin was playing sole Ruck.
