As a Saints man, what are your thoughts on Steele this season?

What is your predicted SC average for him this season?
He won't be in my team, though I confess I didn't get to watch his JLT (the fatherhood curse you warned of is already sneaking up on me, I think).

I think players with his disposal numbers have to be pretty special to be really top mid keepers, and he hasn't looked like that kind of player to me in the past.

For his price I either want to be pretty sure he's at least an average-to-good keeper (105+) or at least have the risk o***et by the chance he's a really top pick (115+). I don't think there's much chance he's a really top MID, and although I think it's quite possible (even probable?) he is an average-to-good keeper, it's not with enough confidence that I feel the need to pick him.

This is boring and conservative, but I think my narrow range for him would be about 102-107, but with fairly high margin of error, and I reckon more likely less than more.

Rocky + Sheed
vs
Cogs + Walsh

Conventional wisdom would point to taking the potential top tier mid + rookie but I’m a Rocky fanboy from way back and my gut is telling me Sheed could go on a run.

I could also make the correction if needed after round 2, whether that be because Walsh forces my hand or Rocky returns to his burn man ways.

I have been waiting weeks for you to post :)

Rocky + Sheed , why not Crouch , Worpel (?) , Miles (?) & Libba and load up big elsewhere ?

I don’t know what eat the wagon wheel means but lols ?
Hi IDIG

What is yours and Jay's thoughts on a 1-0-10 starting midfield ?

Walsh , Butters , Setterfield * , Duursma * , Constable , Drew * , Hind , Scott , Atkins & Gibbons all look viable to be named (a few may or may not have questionable JS)

Defenders in Collins , Scrimshaw (?) , Clark (?) , Wilkie (?) , Burgess * , Joyce (?) , McKay (?) , Watson (?) , Hore may not be as appealing as first thought.

Apart from Lewis , Balta , Petrucelle & Parker no one is screaming out to be picked in the forwards.

Queries on Smith , Clarke & Fort.

Guess we need to just wait for debutant announcements and Round 1 teams.

Cheers

What would be the advantage of putting the DPP rookies in the MIDs?

If all those names get picked, it would allow 4-0-7 and you've got the others in backup to move to the mids if anyone gets dropped. Plus you then get to pick 4 mid premos, who to my eye offer better points/$ than the premos on other lines.

At this stage dependent on what F and D rookies are named.

Question marks on :-

Atkins , Constable , Hind & Scott so they might not even be named.

Similar to the F and D ones.

Thought it easier to place them in the mids initially to see what becomes clearer , doesn't Rowsus always say structure our teams where the rookies are named.

I don't think Macrae is a good starting pick. Even if he backs it up, it's unlikely to do too much damage unless the cheaper C options don't fire. And I think it's unlikely he manages to go at the same level as last year. Plus his game counts don't inspire confidence at that price. I think Oliver is a fine pick but probably fully-priced. It's not impossible he finds another level but it won't be that hard to jump on if he does, given his high starting price, and I'd rather see his scoring with Brayshaw, Viney and Jones all in there. I think Cripps is a good pick and the most likely to go to another level and hurt non-owners. His TOG was insane last year though and wouldn't be surprised if they treat him a bit more gently this year, so I also think there's a chance he drops back a bit. Hard to see his scoring fall off a cliff though. He's the only one of the three currently in my team, and have never seriously considered the other two.
do you worry that the new rules are not suitable to cripps? we see alot of accumulators work with the additional space (sheed, rockliff, treloar) and dominate the statboard as a result. cripps on the other hand is somewhat one-dimensional, in the sense that he heavily relies on repeated stoppages to score well, and if the ball is cleared out of stoppages smoothly with the new rules, he might struggle to get into the game as consistently.

Certainly wouldn't call him one-dimensional, but I assume you're just referring to the fact that he relies on big CP numbers for his high SC points. I suppose we don't know for sure how the new rules will play out but I'd be surprised if they had a huge effect on midfielders' scoring, particularly one the calibre of Cripps. One thing that has been suggested is that there could be more blowouts, which could be a problem for him, but hopefully Blues can at least stay competitive in most games.

102-107 is a bit stiff imo. I am extremely confident he will go 105+ as a minimum. Averaged 112 post bye as a tagger. He's lost weight and is smashing his fitness pb's. Combine the increased tank with Lade wanting to use him more offensively and you have yourself a Top 8 mid. At $512,600.... = VALUE

I don't think it's possible to pick macrae, cripps or oliver in any combination with that budget restraint. So I guess Rockliff, Steele, Gawn, Heeney. I like Rocky, Gawn and Heeney but I wouldn't want to be backed into the Steele pick just through lack of funds. If you really like him, that's another matter.
Now you've made me nervous, I have Macrae, Cripps, Oliver plus Lloyd, Grundy, Gawn and Danger

Still very much a work in progress. My team is usually pretty set at this stage but not this year.

Billings a recent inclusion and giving Rocky some serious thought. Might as welll look a Sauce next for the trifecta of never againers in my team lol
