My excitement of Fifita(c), Murray and Burns killing it is being mitigated by a disappointing knock from Tedesco and Radley

Tedesco is obviously a hold, but unsure on Radley. He got a lot of minutes which is promising, still think he might be a hold.

Great to hear from you. Are you in one of our leagues, and if so, what is your team name?

I'm in Cairns until Sunday, if you are near about.

You can find me in the NRL League as Hayneous Crimes and League 6 of the AFL league as the AFL Jaffles
I am actually working down in Bowen at the moment and will be for the next few months, but might even be moving to Cairns after this stint is over, depending on what jobs are around by then. Should be smack bang in the middle of the season, so will have to try to meet up for an NRL/AFL double combo in a sports bar with some brews some time

Thanks. Space in league 2, if have a spare league. If you need leagues filled we can obviously help. I think some of us have put together competitive teams with your help and inspiration. @7/11 and @Connoisseur have also been great guides.

I thought you might be down in Bowen, but no harm asking. It would be great to organise a catch up when you visit/move to Cairns.

I don't have any leagues other than the SCS one I am currently in. Am always happy to join more though. I am in about 25 leagues in NRLF!
Yeah the move to Bowen, however temporary, was quite abrupt- really just helping a mate out of a work-related jam. It left me with very little time to contribute to this thread though, but now that I am settled I should be back on here (and the AFL ones) more regularly. Really need to work out what i'm doing with my AFLSC team before Thursday though, can feel that clock pressure ticking and I only just saw Max Gawn's beard for the first time yesterday so now I have to rejig my whole team!

Tedesco (c) and Radley hurt but sounds like they were pretty popular so hopefully not too much damage done.

@Pookus McFly what is your AFL side looking like? The reason I ask is because I think a lot of us have put together NRL teams of pretty reasonable quality. This is due to having little to no prejudice. I think we could learn much from you (provided you have done similar research to what we have done in regards to NRL)

wake up this morning and I am now 5/307 grrrrr

add points (I will need all the help I can get) not take them off me
I don’t know if they still do this, but I do remember that SC used to adjust the points mid round if they got anything wrong.

That said, you aren’t in a terrible position. 12 players left could net you 50 odd each for 900+ total.

Edit: I’m now 8/523, Murray got adjusted down a few points and Tedesco 1. Though friend got bumped up 2.

I'd greatly appreciate thoughts on who to field for my last reserve spot between A Keighran and M Sivo.

Currently on 4/293 with K Holland, J Trbojevic (C), M Taupau, J Arrow, A Tolman, S Lane, M Morgan, N Cleary, CNK, E Marsters, C Gutherson and J Bateman to play.

Have had it on Keighran all week but recently leaning towards M Sivo.

It depends on how you think the game is going to play out. The game is at Penrith for the parra match so I’d say it’s quite wet there at the moment. I’m not 100% on the weather in NZ at the moment but I’d say it’s a sight better plus you have the added aspect of the Warriors playing with a bit of emotion after yesterday’s events.

As a rule of thumb, go with your gut.

Who else is in your squad by the way? There might be an option you haven’t explored that could be solid.

J Host, D Brown, R Garrick and M Ravalawa.
Host is probably the safe option out of all those but his ceiling wouldn’t be as high. Ravalawa and Sivo i reckon could go large as they seem to have high potential for tackle breaks and therefore other attacking stats.

Brown is the big unknown with how the new structure at the eels may work. That said, Penrith are one of those teams who can concede quick points, so he wouldn’t be a terrible option.

My order would be:
1. Ravalawa (plenty of points in the dragons vs cowboys games I reckon. Both teams have weaker backlines so you’d hope Rava gets on the end of a few attacking opportunities).
2. Host (should have a solid base and possibly benefit from some attacking stats).
3. Sivo (looking to try and cement a spot in the eels backline so will be all guns blazing. Proven tryscorer as well so could be a good POD for the last reserve).
4. Brown/Keighran (tough to split these two but as a rule, rookie halves don’t score overly well when they have a more experienced half with them. I expect Moses and green to take most of the responsibility from the two youngsters).
5. Garrick (don’t rate manly’s chances of putting too many points on the board).

Thanks. Have decided to switch Keighran to Sivo for the last reserve.

I agree with 7/11, Keighran is probably the safer middling bet since he will kick goals, but in the trial Blake Green seemed to take all the kicks, which is the bread and butter for halves and I cannot see Keighran going massive without any kick metres (save the lucky try). Sivo will be boom or bust as a winger, in that the game can just be played down the middle and he gets starved of ball, or the Eels spread it to the edges and he becomes a factor in the game and finishes some tries. I think if you picked Sivo but Keighran outscored him (which is very possible), you would only be mildly annoyed because he wouldn't outscore him by much- whereas if Sivo goes large and you had picked Keighran you will be devastated because you could miss out on 50+ points potentially.

Very well, I shall post my AFL team here even knowing this is an NRL thready and we muddy the waters somewhat!
Apologies for any diehards who don't like this mixing of the codes and threads]

Laird Whitefield Williams Smith Collins Clark (Burgess Wigg)
Cripps Kelly Neale Merrett BCrouch Miles Walsh Gibbons (Bewley Hind Watson)
Grundy Goldstein (Fort)
Dangerfield Heeney Greene Moore Setterfield Parker (Balta Cavarra)

I still have some cash in the bank to change the cheaper players and rookies around according to team lists (when do those team lists come out btw?) But the only man I have ever head of in this list of players is Dangerfield, who I saw on a bottle of Gatorade once and thought it was the greatest football name i've ever heard. Still flirting with Gawn because of the beard thing though

I’m probably going to have a crack at the afl fantasy, but not nearly the same commitment as a lot of the user base on this forum.

Used to be an avid supporter of the swans from the late 90’s to late 2000’s but haven’t paid much attention to it since so I’ll be in the same boat as a lot of you are for nrl fantasy!

Not long until the warriors v bulldogs game. This is the one match I want to watch closely. Interested in the minutes that Napa plays as well as the way the Warriors play without Johnson.

Okay, just this once. ;)

Team lists come out Thursday around 6:20pm AEDT, so there won't be much time between announcement and the Carlton v Richmond (whose teams will be named Wednesday) game starting. We will likely get indication of many rookies earlier in the week.

Very good structure. Miles didn't play the role we hoped in the JLT, so I would move him on. If you can upgrade then do so otherwise down to a rookie such as Butters. Greene may well start off slow given his interrupted preseason. Rookiewise, Wigg is out for the season. The others can be changed once teams are known.

Game looks free flowing already. Napa looks very very good, high work rate. Holland had a couple of errors so he’ll be minus points for a little. Don’t stress though, as one was just a slightly heavy kick that cost him 3 points.
