With all due respect, I think there are a few punters high on hype when it comes to Balta. Happy to be proven wrong, but I'm comfortable to give him a miss and take advantage of the mid rookies available (with some DPP Fwds) to stack the mid/fwd line accordingly, ie. Setterfield, Scott, Smith, Duursma, Hately, Butters, Atkins, Drew et al. Enough to go around there without even considering Gibbons who I don't rate either. Anyway we will all know a whole lot more about Balta come Friday morning. As I said, happy to be proven wrong. I can imagine every man and his dog in SC will be piling on Balta though.

Still working through this one ... intercept marks are his strength and I hope they can come up with another lock down defender to free him up.

Initial draw on paper doesn't look too bad though ... STK, FRE, WBD. CAR, ADE, BRI ... but then it heads to WCE, MEL, PTA, GEE ...

But where do the cheap points come from .... as he doesn't really do much more ...
thanks so much for your response. his early draw will hopefully help him to score big

So what's the general consensus regarding the rookie spread and structures? I think 5 in the backs and 6 in the mids (at the least, 5) is what most are looking at? 4-0-6 starting mids or are people still going with a 4-1-5 or 5-0-5? Seems to be enough good rookies to load up on the mid rookies and turn a speculative mid pricer on another line into a premo.

you might be 1 short in your mids to begin with , been 11 for awhile now ?

4-1-6 for me , 5 rookies in defence , 3 + Moore forward

hard to keep up with all this Balta talk.
Are people suddenly playing him on field or on the bench ?
Bench with an E. Then if he tons up, gotta decide whether to get an FD or Corbett :p
Bonus he got picked , so will put him at F7 and see what happens.
Bench with an E seems a good call.
The way CD do scoring (on "impact") makes me think Balta is the kind of player who will score almost no SC points for most of the game and then get 20 in one play, just because it looks cool.

Take that clip Bomer18 posted before: Handball recieve, breaks a tackle, handball to his own advantage, loose ball get, handball under pressure from two tacklers to advantage, another loose ball get, effective short kick for nearly 100m gained. I have no idea how they score something like that, but imagine if it was in the last 5 minutes of a close game!

How many not taking Balta have Moore in your fwds?
The concrete details of rookies being selected has lead me to dropping Moore - I shifted him from my forwards to defenders to fit in Balta, then dropped him completely in favour of upgrading (Z. Williams) or downgrading (Hore) him. He seemed a nice option but, much like Lincoln McCarthy, hasn't demonstrated any ability to average 85-90 which is what you need from a $250k-ish player.

If Moore were too score 75, 80, 75, 80 repeated to his bye, he would have made 130k (using TooSerious calculator). Obviously scoring will have much more fluctuation but all in all i would consider it a win if he averages 75 and makes 120k odd while also outscoring the rookie options.

I still use the rule of thumb of wanting to get as close as possible to $200k from my non-keepers, while accepting anything over $150k if I must. To do that he's going to have to average 85 ($170k) to 90 ($195k). If Moore is only going to appreciate $120k and score in the 70s and 80s, that's not noticeably better than many rookies so I might as well use that $100k somewhere else.

it depends the reasons you are picking moore. i personally dont think he averages more than 85 and his injury history is something to be concerned. but given the js issues with our rookies in particular the forward line, he might be a good option. at least you know he will play every week if fully fit. i am also floating with leaving moore out of my team and then upgrading b smith.

Posting here because he's almost rookie priced.... Darcy Moore, are we convinced? I know their JLT stats, and the comments from Clarko, but what are people feeling... Pies fans in particular, injury update, where will he play, etc...

At the moment it's either him or Scrimshaw.

i would imagine he will play the same role as last season. the extra addition to moore duties is he will take the kick in's. he also been included in the leadership. i am not sure if he will be used to play on 2nd or 3rd best defender. he seems to be fit at this point in time however it is also worth noting there were a couple of games last season that he wasnt able to complete.

in terms of sc i think he is better used in the forward line as the rookies dont look great. if you are running with 4 premo or 3 premo 1 mid pricer in the forward line, i dont think his needed. if you are running with 3 premo forward line and the rest is rookies i think he is worth a go.

The forward rookie issue is a big one. I've compensated by going very heavy on premiums up forward but yes, if you need four rookie priced players up there I'd have Moore as the fourth (or third if you're very nervous about Drew's job security). The original question was around people passing on Balta while keeping Moore, so I addressed that from the POV of someone who had been there but just shifted camps.

Really struggling with this Balta pick. To fit him in, one of Drew/Petrucelle/Parker go (Drew currently on field). All bar Parker seem to have sketchy JS, Balta +Drew seem to have the most scoring potential though. I feel if I bring in Balta is a recipe to be burned but I also feel I can't miss out!

I want to pick Balta too, but not sure about his JS ,think he’s there to give Nank a rest. Sure they said they won’t be risking Lynch in the ruck ( he’s 193cm ,Balta is 194cm). He’s a much better athlete than Soldo, and that versatility may keep him in the side. He is only 19 but he is 100 kg and pretty quick. Could be a good asset around the ground. Well,I’ve convinced myself, he’s in !?
