I've ended up batting a little deeper in the forward line to avoid this scenario...have gone with Moore F5, Drew/Setters/Parker F6/7/8

Not a set up for all, but really trying to avoid those forward rookies who will play one or two games and we never see again, I feel like Balta and Petrucelle may fit that bill....I also may be very wrong :)
So you've either gone against the Gawndy set up, or gone with more mid rookies?!

I imagine Duursma is in your mids then
I've actually left him out at this point, i'm not confident with his job security. I think we have to choose which of the 4 Port boys we should start as i don't think all 4 of them will still be playing in 2 or 3 weeks time. At the moment i've gone with Butters and Drew and have left out Durrsma and Rozee.
I can definitely be swayed though...

Don't think Petrucelle will disappear after a game or two. He's had a massive pre-season and the coach has singled him out and talked him up several times as being the big improver. He is one of the quickest guys in the comp so he adds something valuable. Should get games right throughout the year but the question is if he can string them all together at the start for us to make money on him.

The opportunity is right there for him to grab with both hands. LeCras has retired, Cripps is still a couple of rounds away and now Rioli has a foot injury (That we don't have any details on yet). A good first couple of games will go a long way for him in securing a permanent spot.

I've gone the same route as you. Butters mid and Drew fwd.
I've also got the same 3 def rookies as you, Burgess is my 4th because I've gone for Moore as a forward.

Yeah fair enough mate, and you'd obviously have a far better idea about his prospects than me...

Just mindful of the amount of games played by Eagles debutants over the last 2 years....

Rioli - 24
Waterman - 16
Venables - 15
Ryan - 13
Mutimer - 4
Petrucelle - 3
Ainsworth - 3
Allen - 2
Brander - 1

Eagles have a pretty settled line up and as you say Cripps and Rioli still need to come back in...so for me, logically the 2 blokes to give up their spots are Venables and Petrucelle...but as I said I could be wrong

I have....

I reckon my first post in this forum this pre-season was something along the lines of...I am not compromising in the rucks this year, Gawn and Grundy all the way....

The last 72 hours has seen that go well and truly out the window...

Hi guys, not sure of this has been discussed but I have been through a few pages in this thread and couldn't find anything. Who is the best rookie for captain's loopholing purposes? Looks like Freo is the best team for it but can't afford Meek at R3. So looking at Bines and Sweet instead. Who is better? Locked in Gibbons at M11 there or would have looked at a Freo player for that spot.
Cheers in advance

More than happy to share mate, at this point in time I am running with Darcy and English....
Darcy is a very interesting choice, i like it. I had Darcy, Lobb and English at different points as my R2. I got scared off of Darcy as he's still just 20 and the fact they recruited Lobb. With Hogan out for a period of time, do Lobb and Darcy share ruck/forward roles? Any concern that might affect potential scoring or am i overthinking it?

Not very pretty... but here's what I did up earlier in the pre-season. Not sure if someone posted a better looking version elsewhere. Yellow denotes a Sunday or Monday game.

The thing is, last year I went against the grain and didn't pick the popular rucks. I don't wish injury upon players, but it happened and it paid off. I like the risky approach you've taken. I haven't had time this ps to get to that. Good luck.

Thoughts on Duursma? Currently I have him on the field with bench: (Hore (e) and Burgess)

I have the cash to turn him into Collins (already have Clark and Scrimshaw).

What do we think lads?

So Ned Reeves if i'm reading that correctly?
Yeah he'd be a great pick, Personally I like Bines a little better for the RUC/FWD status in case I have to trade in a FWD like Westhoff to cover in the rucks if a short term injury was to occur to either R1 or R2.

West Coast has a lot of Saturday night games... So that gives you the Thurs, Fri & 2 or 3 Sat day games to choose a VC from when West Coast don't happen to play on the Sunday. That's usually good enough.

I do agree he's too young/lacks the fitness base to see out the season and i've probably got my purple coloured glasses on, but I reckon he's got enough tools to see him avg 90 over the first half a dozen weeks and allow me to assess the ruck options

Lobb will definitely offer the chop out - whether that sees Darcy go forward I am unsure...he may just rest on the bench, all to be revealed really
