Hey blokes..Ist post on this forum.

Had a bit of a look around and seems like a cool place to hang out, now where's the booze? and I'll need a glass tile:cool:

I know it's not kosha to ask for advice for a 1st poster, but I'm gonna anyway.

This is my 'finished' team, 1st year at this game, 2nd year playing Fantasy.....Anywhoo, I'm missing some of the big dogs but only have 4 trades left so I'm not sure I can do much about it....any thoughts about strategy over the run home would be appreciated. View attachment 9785
A super interesting team

6 Defenders plus Logue (potential D6 but probably should just loop with someone like Smith/Sicily(my case).
8 Mids plus Clarke (good cover)
2 Rucks
6 forwards
Plus Moore/Worpel including the Lycett Bines cover.

A few thoughts,
  • The back big dogs like Hurn/Whitfield you might want to leave some trades to bring them in when their price falls a bit more.
  • A completed team should aim to have Danger forward... allows another big dog like Cripps/Macrae in the mids.
  • Goldy, I too started the season with, if there was one big dog that is worth more than a 2nd DPP its Gawn, given you can loop lycett, Moore, worpel across any line, I would aim to upgrade Goldy...
  • Forwards, the aim to start the season is to get to get midfield players up forward. Walters, tick Boak, big tick especially if you started him, Heeney should have been a big tick. Big dogs T.Kelly and Dunkley to a point have both had points this season where they have been compelling selections, next year make list of what you want your end team to look roughly like and make sure you get them. It leaves less list cloggers in your team and perhaps just one or two great selections like walters/boak on each line to help your acceleration to the front of the pack. All the best for next year...
This is really very early to have 2 DPP non-rookie cover, well done. Loop the hell out them save the last 4 trades if you don't reverse them and do something else.

I too am interested to see what this weeks trades were...

EDIT: I now see that Grundy has just arrived. Good choice.

Great work. In that case I think Quarterback's advice is good - hold onto the trades for now. If you last a couple of weeks with no need for injury trades, you might consider cashing in Clarke and then upgrading your least favourite small dog to your favourite big dog (mine would be Gawn).

Thanks a lot for your effort in replying and giving a 'run down' on how my potato farm is rolling.

Started this year with a MPM base, has served me well cos I could mix n match those that were firing as opposed to those that weren't, think Mills Lycett, Westoff early. I've learnt a ****load this year and will be taking on all advice, plus watching mistakes that others make in setting up my team next year.

I've had a bit of a rejig on my trades this week, rather than downgrading Setters > Wicks, I've gone Worpel > Wicks, leaves Setters as the link with the Fwds and gives me enough moolah to upgrade Goldy > Gawn next week with 1 trade.

Do you guys think that's the way to go? or should I retain Worpel as that M9/F7 cover?

Post trades this week: (Duursma+Baker > Hurn + Logue + ($215K 6 trades)
*Whitfield in due course.

Lloyd, Hurn, Houli, Laird, Sicily, Hore*, Logue, B.McKay (Underlined = looping for now)
J.Kelly, Fyfe, Macrae, Cripps, Neale, Oliver, B.Crouch**, Rockliff**, Setterfield (M/F), D.Clarke, Bewley
Grawndy, Z.Clarke
Dunkley, Danger, T.Kelly, Marshall, Mundy, Greene**, D.Moore (Hawks), R.Gardener (D/F)

So I'm short, Boak, and two of Sloane, Z.Merrett, Trealor from uber premo (for the ** players marked above).

This weeks trades: After Duursma to Logue I've got $361k... In theory I could delay the Hurn upgrade and correct Rocky into one of them... or just upgrade Baker >Boak/Treloar/Sloane but I'm thinking that 6 trades with 8 rounds to go is better than 5.... and 4 (i.e. requiring an up and down, is probably not enough.... especially with what can only be described as flakey ruck cover at best. Grateful for your thoughts on trades or team.

Yeah, look 3/4 trades at this time of year is dicey. Don't be surprised to have none left with 4/5 rounds to go... Supercoach gods can be cruel. But going for overall, (or if you were just on the edge of the 8 for leagues) I think it's well worth it...

PS as you can see from my team above, I haven't nailed it. My mid priced starting selections for the this year. Darcey Moore (sold), Libba (sold), Brouch, Rocky and also purchased Marshall. I'm still stuck with 2 of them. I've lost a lot of dosh and points on Mundy and Sicily (trade ins at over starting prices) Admittedly I have sidewayed both Heeney*, Dusty* and ROB, both* potentially mistakes but we'll see how the season rolls out. So that is 3 trades I needed not make, and I could reasonably upgrade Brouch, Rocky, Greene them with those trades... but as you can see you'll run out of trades going sideways. Best of luck for next year. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the more mid-pricers the less flexibily you have with your premos and in general. This year has been a GnR year with very solid rookie performance, give thanks to Port, Geelong for making it all possible. It might not be that way next year.

Rocky is scoring quite nicely when he's playing, it's just that he's missed quite a few (obviously a sunk cost now) and he still seems injury prone. I'd keep him for now, especially as it sounds like he should be back next week at the latest. Personally Greene is the one I'd be least comfortable with, he's averaging 78 and is always a risk of missing games. I'd look at Greene to Boak, who is one of the most durable players in the comp. It is also worth checking out Row's research on Hurn, he scores worse in big wins and the Eagles have an easier draw coming up, plus the benefit of NicNat returning.

I guess it's hard to nail all your trades......I don't think trading Heeney out was a bad thing, he's been playing injured and with Buddy out spending a bit of time Fwd. Interested to hear your thoughts on Marshall, I missed him early and reckon he has been one of the best 'value' picks of the year. To pick up an Uber premo Fwd for under 350k is a real bargain, the lad's averaging 127 over his last 3 and if you take out the 50 then he's going at 109 for the year. I have him in Fantasy and he has DPP status in that format.

I picked him up after one price rise. I then got a 50, can't exclude that he was fit and will get toweled up by Grawndy like pretty much every other ruck. He then missed a week so I got a rookie score, probs about 50odd, so his PIT is a bit worse than that average looks...

But looking forward, with one more match against Grawndy (Gawn) and matches against Martin and Kreuzer to come, I'm still expecting him to avg out close to 100 and be a very viable F5-6 selection behind, Danger, Boak, Telly and Dunkley.

So, this is where I’m at with only 4 trades in hand ranked just outside top 1000

D: Hurn, Whitfield, Lloyd, Laird, Houli, Crisp (Logue, Naish)
M: Cripps, Fyfe, Coniglio, Neale, Oliver, Macrae, Treloar, MCrouch (DClarke, Hately, Bewley)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
F: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, TKelly, Marshall, Gray (Gardner, Larkey)

Boak and J.Kelly notable absentees but just so difficult getting everyone in.

Now it would be nice to keep them all on the field

Great side, very well done. You’ve even got Whitfield to come back in - nice.

Ranked 632 currently with 7 trades left and 60k in the kitty.

D: Hurn, Lloyd, Laird, Stewart, Williams, Sicily, Logue, Gardner

M: Cripps, Fyfe, Macrae, Coniglio, Crouch, Oliver, Neale, Heeney*, Clarke, Hately, Hind

R: Grundy, Gawn, Bines

F: Dunkley, Boak, Marshall, Kelly, Dangerfield, Cameron, Larkey, Young

Ideally Heeney will end up swinging F/M with Cameron and whoever is my M8.

Was 30,000 or so after first two weeks (mostly poor rookie and captain decisions on my behalf) but have been climbing ever since. So good to get all the rookies off the field!

Def: J Lloyd, S Hurn, R Laird, Z Williams, H Andrews, M Hore, (G Logue, R Gardner)
Mid: J Macrae, J Kelly, P Cripps, L Neale, N Fyfe, R Sloane, Z Merrett, C Oliver, (D Clarke, J Hately, N Hind)
Ruck: B Grundy, M Gawn, (P Bines)
Fwd: T Kelly, P Dangerfield, C Daniel, I Heeney, R Gray, J Westhoff, (W Setterfield, R Young)

4 trades left and includes this week’s planned trade of Duursma to S Hurn. Will grab Mundy for Setterfield eventually but requires another trade to free cash up to finish my side. Very happy with above squad considering my poor cash generation and rookie situation and hopefully can avoid several donuts on the home run. Hopefully Gawn’s injury isn’t too severe as I had Goldy up until this bye, the Hoff returns in conjunction with Danger and Daniel recovering in time to avoid the aforementioned risk. M Hore will likely stay at D6 to loop with Logue for the remainder of the season.

4 trades left and hate my defense... But will stick with it until finals.

Top of the ladder in my main league and hopefully Rock returns and praying Westhoff does too after both had massive games in the reserves.

Team is complete with westhoff in.

Back: Lloyd Laird Stewart Andrews Sicily Ellis (Naish Burgess)
Midfield: Cripps Neale Danger Oliver Fyfe Rockliff Coniglio Macrae (Clarke Stocker Baker)
Ruck: Gawn Grundy (Bines)
Forward: Dunkley Kelly Daniel Boak Lycett Westhoff (Gardner Settlefield)

Was meant to pull the trigger and get Andrews out for Logue... But lost track of time. Now I just have to hope and wait for players to make money. Dammit

Can complete with Grundy, but will depend on Gawn’s health. I have Andrews in Def and not Whitfield, which will become an issue.

4 trades left and a few premiums short but basically the completed side (will move ROB to Grundy next week leaving myself with 3 trades and approximately 75k for injuries):

D: Lloyd, Williams, Laird, Stewart, Sicily, Hore (Logue, Naish)

M: Macrae, Fyfe, Cripps, Neale, Oliver, Sloane, Treloar B.Crouch (Clarke, Baker, Scott)

R: Gawn, ROB (Fort)

F: Dunkley, Danger, Marshall, Boak, T.Kelly, Heeney (Bines, R.Young)

ROB goes to Grundy next week with the 200k I have in the bank.

Obviously not satisfied with the final team but got hit with a tonne of injuries and only good trading (for the most part) has saved my season from being bad.

I do however love my POD’s in Sloane, Treloar, B.Crouch, ROB, Marshall and hope they can keep punching out good scores.

Hoping I can get a good run of injuries to close out the season and stay in the top 5,000 overall.

Gonna do Duursma to Blakely to basically complete my side this round. Can’t afford to hold on for Whitfield unfortunately.

D: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, ZWilliams, Blakely, BSmith (Logue, Hinge)
M: Cripps, Fyfe, JKelly, Macrae, Neale, Oliver, Treloar, BCrouch (DClarke, Hately, Atley)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
F: Danger, Dunkley, Telly, Marshall, Heeney, JCameron (Parker, Gardner)

About 50k loose change in bank. Not many trades but it’s similar to most. Compromises are BSmith D6, Brouch M8, JCameron F6 (and no Boak). Crazy move later if I want to be aggressive is Parker to rookie and BSmith to Whitfield down the track.

Final team post trades!

Im only really missing J Kelly and potentially Marshall.

Edit: this will not be my final team as I need to trade Daniel to Marshall this week, team should be finalised by next week. I still have Baker and Duursma over Owies and Hurn
