Haddin XII 7/70. Not sure that was part of the script.
Oh dear. All out for 105, with the Hick XII 7/96 in reply. Only Labuschagne and M Marsh have made it to 20 so far.

Presumably the idea of playing two strong sides in tough conditions was to help with acclimatization, and perhaps get these sorts of performances out of the way early, but this must have gone far worse than the authorities had hoped.

to be fair though our bowling attack SHOULD be our strong point , if we actually pick the correct bowlers for the conditions and not just pick on reputation.

Outside of Smith , Warner , Khawaja (not playing this game) , there are still questions marks on the majority of the other batsmen at test level.

Think it will be a bowler dominated series with Innings totals of 300.

Hopefully the second innings will be better , they might have enough time for another practice game now though ?

That’s true, although we have a fair bit of improvement to get to 300 totals against an international side!

Hopefully this was a clearing of the cobwebs, but I have my doubts given our record :) I agree re selections too - I think a horses for courses approach is our best chance in England.

Anyone looking for a laugh tune in ASAP. The English are 7/43 in the opening session at Lords against the mighty Irish after winning the toss and electing to bat on a belter of a pitch.

I stopped short of saying Ireland would beat them on the last page, but I was fairly confident that they'd cause problems for England considering their batting lineup.

I am placing a lot of faith in Smudge scoring a lot of those runs , think Warner averaged mid 30's last time over there.

Not convinced by the rest (as yet).

Just wondering if JL has the balls to leave out Starc & Hazlewood.

I can see the argument re Starc but would have thought Hazlewood was a shoo in. His recent record isn’t as good as I thought, admittedly, but conditions should suit him. I suspect they’ll play at least one.

I think we need to look at who will score the most runs in those conditions as well. Apparently Labuschagne has scored 1,000 runs in the county season, and may have even been the first one to the mark (?). I had previously thought he would be about our 8th choice as a batsman but if that’s representative, surely we should pick him.

I am sure they will go Cummins , Hazlewood & Starc like last time , realise by the 4th Test that it doesn't work (again) then belatedly give Bird or Siddle a go.

I like Patto's comment that we need to be targeting the knee roll of the pads a lot more , recently under Boof it was bowl fast and bounce them , if that doesn't work bowl fast and bounce them.

Would be nice to see a lot more "science" used when we bowl.

Bird , Patto , Siddle would be my 3 and think Neser could be dangerous in the right conditions.

I actually wouldn't mind Labuschagne at 6 , think his leggies could surprise a bit as well.
