seriously $ 800 - 900 k

what the hell are the good players getting paid ?
I can never get my head around this in recent years .... one standout / good year and they want a multi year max salary .... which also seems to coincide with a new club willing to pay "overs" ...

In my mind those sort of deals undid the strength of the Swans ... Buddy, Tippet etc ... could have kept Dunks, Titch etc with that sort of coin IMO ... and had bucket loads left over !!

Baffles me , but yes you hit the nail on the head of new clubs are willing to pay "overs" for B standard players at best.

Fyfe must be close to $ 2.5 million a season , Cripps , Danger , Dusty , Neale etc on about $ 2 million if that is what they are willing to pay Papley , not like he is kicking 2-3 goals a game and getting 25 plus disposals every week.

I might be rude but any player outside of a goal kicking midfielder (full or part time share), dominant ruckman or clearance midfielder is worth over ~600k. Others will add in KPP players but I reckon the game has changed too much for most of them these days to be worth it ...

I feel sorry for guys like Carey , Dunstall , Lockett etc when you see how much money is talked about for KPF in the hope they might kick 45-55 goals in a season (and yep the game has changed) , imagine a FF kicking 80+ goals these days he would be getting $ 3-4 million a season.

Even some of this money for a key KPD is crazy.

Love to know what these gun mids are getting paid then.

I guess though when the average wage is around $ 330k (from memory).

Might explain why a lot of the younger players full of the rails , too much money & time on there hands and too many temptations.

Not a lot of surprises in that lot though .... Greenwood should be a good pick up for them though .... Keath ??
They need to do it to move forward as a club , like to see Greenwood as a full time mid (should nearly have the engine now).

Keath likely to go to St Kilda or the Bulldogs , although Howard is attracting media talk as well so that could change.

Doedee due back next season so Keath might struggle for a spot.

I guess TV rights have definitely increased the average player wage but I just can't justify some of the expected player wages in my mind respective to their output / influence on the game ...

If anything skill levels appear to be going down .... and the game is turning into a hybrid of rugby / netball ...

More interested in recruiting athletes now days.

Amazing the number of players who can't hit a target 30-40 metres away even when they are under no pressure (looking at you Taylor Adams as the worst offender) , let alone can't kick at all on their other foot.

Can't quite understand this bounce handball technique either , just handball direct to a player.

And don't get me started on kicking around the body from 30 metres out when taking a shot at goals.

Definitely agree with your rugby analogy , think they allow more contact in Netball ?

Oh and instead of changing the rules all the time , just get the umpires to umpire correctly to the ones we have or used to have.

Incorrect disposal when tackled , you either kick it or handball it , not attempt , drop it or just pass it away......dispose of it properly.

A bit of perspective: in 1989 the 125th money earner on the PGA tour (the cutoff to keep your card) earned a little under $US100,000. This year the earnings of the 125th player on the PGA tour was $US892,663. BTW, most of them can hit a target at 40 metres!

Edited for accuracy: my memory plays some tricks on me!

I wonder what is easier to achieve , Top 125 in the World or being highly paid on a AFL list.

How much does the 125th ranked player receive in endorsements and sponsorships deals ?

How does it work in golf ? , are they "paid" appearance money for tournaments or are they playing purely for prizemoney etc.

Some AFL players might get a rude shock if their contracts were performance based.
