John Ralph only now catching up with what we've know out west for a year, lol
Have heard some murmurs about possibly trading Gaff this off-season if he wishes to go, and have heard Melbourne are interested with their Pick 2.
Most likely nothing in it though as he's stated just as recently as a few weeks ago he sees himself being at West Coast for the rest of his career now. Becoming a free agent in 2 years was just a way of protecting himself if his father's health situation went bad... But everything is fine on that front now.

Hmmm... Don't seem to hear a lot of people objecting to Keath nominating the Bulldogs or Ryder nominating St.Kilda as their preferred destinations.
Based on the outrage when Tim Kelly said he wanted to come to West Coast... There are 10 teams in Victoria so whoever offers the best pick should be where Keath & Ryder end up. The Crows & Power should trade them too the highest bidder in Victoria.
Just an observation.
Edit - Josh Bruce requesting the Bulldogs too. How dare these players nominate destination clubs that have worse picks on offer than all the other Victorian clubs. Must be just when a player requests a trade back to WA that the player has to go to the club with the best picks, lol
Actually scratch that... It seems it's only a problem if they choose West Coast... As Hogan, Lobb, Wilson, B Hill, Matera, Hamling and McCarthy all nominated Freo in the past few years without an outcry.

I could be wrong, but I think you missed the point on most people’s complaint over T Kelly last season, @Lost In The Sky.
Most people weren’t happy that he desperately needed to get home for family reasons, but would not go home to play for Freo. I think most felt, if the family reason was so dire, and the main reason for shifting, then saying you won’t play for one of the 2 available clubs seems a little contradictory. In essence, the family reason suddenly seemed secondary, so why did he even bring it up!

totally disagree it's contradictory at all, personally it seems like people are looking for reasons to get upset about it... he knew people at both clubs (Freo & West Coast) and knew where he'd be happiest (Eagles had actually told him they were going to draft him when Cats did so he knows we wanted him already)... he's leaving Geelong to make his wife happy, he's picked Eagles because he knows that's where he'll be happiest... why tie him to another contract at a club where he's not going to be at his happiest?
I also think there is a little bit of a “young upstart!” factor to it, as well. A player in the system for a good number of years? Sure, nominate your preferred destination! A one year player? How dare you! You should consider yourself lucky to be getting a game.
I’m sure I’m not the only one old enough to remember the uproar and “how dare he?!” when a very young Nathan Buckley nominated Collingwood as the only team he’d like to play for. Collingwood, a Victorian team, but there were MANY unhappy with that call at the time. It has the appearance of impertinence when it comes from such an inexperienced player.
I don’t think it has anything to do with any perceived State bias.

No I didn't miss the point. I do get that Victorian point of view. But I (and many other over here) reckon the outrage was due to him nominating West Coast. People just did not want Kelly coming to West Coast.
As Spots said... It's well known now that West Coast had put a fair bit of work into him in 2017 and was going to pick him up in the second round. Through a few different unforseen circumstances (Brander still unbelievably available at 13, Oscar Allen still at 21), We thought he'd still be available at 26 due to his family situation and him telling clubs he did not want to go East for that reason. Geelong took the risk, knowing his situation and preferences, and can't be upset at his request to come home.
We had been in constant contact with him for a few years and that is one reason why he wanted to come to West Coast last year. Freo did not show much interest in him until he had played his rookie season and starred... so that helps explain why he nominated us. He (or his manager) did make a mistake by completely ruling out Freo last year, had he publicly still had Freo in the conversation he might have got to West Coast. But the belief over here is Geelong where playing games last year, and would not have traded him under any circumstances.
If he wanted to come home (regardless of the reasons)... Why should he have to accept playing at a club that showed no interest in him previously and where he would not be happy. When there was another club in his home state that was a more attractive destination in a premiership window.
The family reason is not secondary... Never was... It was the sole reason. He said he loves the Geelong club and if the Geelong cats where in Perth he'd play for them here. But they aren't and he just simply didn't want to go to Freo under any circumstances.
The outrage was over the top. And my post this morning was just pointing out the very same thing (Players nominating a destination in a different state) yet those instances don't get any outrage at all.
Nick Riewoldt just a few weeks ago had a tantrum on TV saying Kelly should just go to which of our two clubs had the best picks.... I was pointing out there is no sign of him when Non-Victorian clubs players like Keath nominate just his club... Geelong have done very well lately paying unders for Dramafield, Unders for Ablett... No outrage when both of them only nominated Geelong was there? Both should have just accepted any Victorian club if they wanted to really get home to Victoria... Regardless of where they preferred to go. The family reasons are genuine though.
He has 3 kids, 2 of which currently have special needs. Kelly and more importantly his partner has no family support system over there, and she needs the family to be home in Perth with family around to help her. Anyone with special needs kids or knows people with special needs kids... knows how much work it takes, how hard it actually is and how important the family support is.

At the end of the day, we were on the receiving end years ago when Judd nominated Carlton. Both clubs worked together to get a result and I expect that to be the case when Cats & Eagles sit down. Totally agree with @Lost In The Sky that Cats took a chance they would be able to settle Kelly and his family in Geelong and it hasnt panned out. They have no right to be too upset given the situation was well known at the time.

And my original post this morning was an observation pointing out how biased the Victorian media in particular is against West Coast.
Hence the total silence when other players request a trade to just 1 club in a state when there is 9 others (regardless of their own reasons), yet jumping all over Kelly wanting to come to West Coast.

Well, I guess we can agree to disagree. If you can't see the difference between a player that will absolutely require more than a top 4 or 5 pick to get traded, and a player that might be lucky to attract something in the 20’s or 30’s as a trade, then whole conversation is moot. I really think the “anti WC” card is being overplayed. Maybe if you lived over here, you’d see that the large majority of us are anti every club up to a certain point, except the club we support.
I don't personally run with the anti WC sentiment but do wonder what outrage there would be if he had just nominated Freo as the club to deal with... guaranteed it probably would even ruffle anyones feathers.
2 points though, his value has nothing to do with how 'genuine' his reasons are for wanting to return home or the fact he has nominated a club like every other player seems to (Jenkins seemingly the exception at the moment).
