GC now getting Rowell and Anderson, almost surely picking up Ellis and Greenwood in the trade period - that's a good start to their list rebuild. Fairly sure they are rumoured to be after a few others too in the trade period. (Edit: Zac Smith one that is possible according to SEN just now)

Wonder if the AFL will be as generous with the next struggling club if they are one of the more established clubs. Highly doubt it.
need to factor in Martin leaving , big loss and think Ah Chee wants to move.

Already clubs are circling Lukosious & King so every time they look like making some gains , some one goes.

Hopefully Rankine gets on the park next season.

Media building up Rowell & Anderson as better than Walsh so more future Hall of Famers ?

Latest rumour is Breust to the Suns. Don't see that happening, not sure what they can offer to get that over the line.

that's what they need , probably half a dozen ready made players for at least 3-4 seasons and try and hold onto the kids they draft , surely with modern technology these kids can stay in touch with family and friends.

Hate to see how they would cope if they enlisted in the armed forces for 4 years.

wasn't Hawthorn trying to offload Breust , Poppy and a few others last season ?

Let's not also forget Gold Coast let Jarryd Lyons walk for absolutely nothing last year. He went to Brisbane who finished 2nd this year and he had a fantastic season and should be polling really well in their Best & Fairest.

Not sure that's the type of list management that should be rewarded so handsomely with extra high draft picks and at the expense of 17 other clubs.

How many will stay at the "GCS" when they announce the relocation of the club to Tassie?
See, that’s my view, too.
They’re giving them too much, and it won’t be a short term solution.
So in the very near future the AFL will say: “Look at everything we gave you, and you still can’t make it work. Off to Tassie with you!” If the AFL was serious, they’d give them something to make them competitive in 2-3 seasons, not 5-6!
Right now, it looks like they’re just fattening the pig, before they send it to Tassie to be butchered. When the time comes, they can give Tassie a bit less to get them started, so they don’t look like they’re creating another GWS type war chest!

The problem is trying to create a team from nothing. I'm so glad GWS got thumped. The AFL haven't just tried to create an AFL team but have specifically tried to create a team to win because languishing at the bottom isn't a good look! A license should always be requested, not created out of thin air and getting to the top should be a labour of love for a community not a marketing exercise. They should have given a license to Southport who made many requests over the years and have heaps of money. No one is pushing for Collingwood to be renamed Greater Inner North East Suburban Melbourne!

With regard to the signing of players from Darwin, I'd be happy for GC to recruit. We know they have issues keeping players, but there wouldn't be too much go home factor if coming from Darwin.
In terms of Darwin, there are current clubs that were given the Northern Territory and Darwin as part of their NGA zones. I have no idea who they are but they would have been pumping money and resources into those areas. And to lose them, I'd be disappointed if I was a club and ask to be reimbursed if any player walks from Darwin to GCS over the next 3 years. That being said, I agree with you that it makes sense that GCS gain access to that area to reduce the likelihood of "go home" factor to other states given that NT doesn't have their own AFL club.

A complete joke by GCS and the AFL should have a serious word with them. Add to that the 2018 trade with WCE and the 2019 trade with Brisbane as disastrous and terrible trading. Also allowing Scrimshaw to leave for peanuts too was bad.

I thought they were talking about a 19th team for Tassie now? Not a relocation of any sort.
That was my understanding too then a third team in Qld , WA & SA making 22 in total.

21 games + the extra derby/showdown (damn that won't work with 3 teams) or "marquee" match

although I suspect we will have 3 conferences of 6 sooner rather than later , play each other in your conference Home & Away then the other sides in the other conference once (reverse fixture the following season) although then the debate will be about who should and who shouldn't be in each conference.

Without looking in too much detail, I guess you could nearly put together a full team of ex-GCS players who have left to other clubs (those that are still on AFL lists) that would be far better than the current squad. They have lost quite a few decent players. Can't see that changing.

pretty well documented by Dew and the Suns what the issues were with Lyon and why he was dropped a few times last season , maybe the penny dropped for him this season at the 3rd club ?

Think I recall a interview with him where he admitted what areas let him down at the Suns and what he needed to improve.

3 in the premiership side (Caddy , Lynch , Prestia)

Ablett , Bennell , O'Meara

Dixon , May , Smith

Kolo , McKenzie , Weller

off the top of my head , reasonable 12 (11) to build a side around

EDIT

forgot all about Hall & Saad

We all tend to think of a team from Tassie with misty eyes saying wouldn’t it be great.....but

.......how on earth would they retain players? Wouldn’t it just become Gold Coast with cold and wet weather.

Hard to see a no. 1 draft pick or a free agent getting excited about moving down to Hobart.

That might be Gil's dream. Realistically, where will the players for each additional club came from? Are the existing established clubs each going to contribute an above average player to breate a competitive franchise Times 4? Or are there to be massive draft preferences (and we have seen how well that worked) so another 4 clubs can try to retain the top kids when their two year contracts expire?

Good questions

Personally I thought the playing talent wasn't good enough to support 16 teams , let alone introduce the Suns & Giants.

Players Association seem to think the current game is too long and has too many players in the field , so maybe we see a reduction their.

Can't see 19 teams working let alone as many as 22 (200 ish extra players) , maybe we are having a massive push into Africa and the States.

I am guessing with 19 teams it would probably mean an 18 game season and 1 team having a bye each round. That would suck for the team who gets a round 1 bye though.

Maybe to address that have two split rounds as well in roughly weeks 7 and 13 where the teams with a bye in the second half of the season don't play rd 7, those with the bye in the first half don't play rd 13?

You're right though - don't want to spread the talent too thin. Agree Tassie would have some issues retaining players, would get crowds at least.

30 years time there will be 2 divisions of 12 teams.
There will be 3 or 4 clubs that just dominate, and will win 80% of flags between them.
Everyone plays everyone twice, nice neat 22 game season.
