Thank you for the feedback.

Is Toby Nankervis 94 from the grand-final inflated due to the poor game by Mumford?

Would Sam Jacobs be in rotation with Mumford?
I'd reckon so, but you'd figure Mumford would be the #2 and get rested.

I'd just bite the bullet and start Gawndy. Maybe Reilly O'Brien or Lycett or English at a stretch but it's a massive gamble and I reckon you need to have a great strategy on other lines.

Nic Nat is a good player too but it's highly unlikely he plays enough to be a good pick.

@Toothless Tigers

Bit of an anecdotal example but the best SC rucks rarely back up elite scoring seasons, so last year I started Goldstein over Grundy. Goldstein was the third best ruck last year but I was losing 20 points per game and missing out on probably the best VC option every week. The $ I saved were not used well and it would probably have been very hard to do so.

It is a risk to outlay 1.4m on two players but Grundy and Gawn are the two best rucks of the past two seasons by miles. I can only see injury breaking that streak. Maybe they regress somewhat and maybe you get really lucky and pick ROB and maybe he breaks out to be a decent pick but there's a lot of maybes.

Hello Everyone

Is using J. Patton as a 2nd Ruck a viable option? View attachment 13930
The basic philosophy of starting an R/F in the rucks and moving them forward during the year is decent but it rarely seems to pay off. You would need Patton to average at least 90, or make $100k, have Gawn miss games or drop well below $600k in the first half of the season.
Patton has shown that he has some big games in him and Hawthorn have been able to get some injury prone players on the ground. Not a safe play but not the worst idea either.
I'm not really answering the question am I?
Ah bugger it. Go for it. :)

Nat Fyfe $651,600
Patrick Cripps $635,900
Josh Dunkley $632,400
Tom Mitchell $630,900
Clayton Oliver $593,900
Matthew Rowell $207,300
Ned McHenry $123,900
Marlion Pickett $123,900
Deven Robertson $117,300
Jackson Mead $117,300
Mitchell Hibberd $114,400

Rucks

Brodie Grundy $705,900
Max Gawn $697,100
Charlie Comben $117,300

Forwards

Lachie Whitfield $604,100
Dustin Martin $543,000
Isaac Heeney $510,700
Aiden Bonar $202,800
Nakia Cockatoo $148,200
Izak Rankine $123,900
Darcy Cameron $123,900
Max King $123,900

I’ve been toying with Heeney vs Dawson vs Houston. At this stage of gone the two I believe will get the midfield minutes unless someone can talk me back into Dawson.
I’ve also being moving Fyfe and Dunkley vs McRae and josh Kelly. At this stage I have fyfe and Dunkley as I’m not convinced with Josh Kelly’s durability and with a stacked GWS midfield all back playing do the points get spread? For some reason I don’t like starting two premium players from the same team on the same line.... never have in 10+ years.... odd

Pick it apart please.

Hi Everyone ,
Treat it like a shooting range and be blunt

D: Z.Williams, Dawson , Doch, , Robertson ,Young, Gould , (Bianca, McLennan)

R: Grundy, Nic Nat, (Comben)

F: Whitfield, Martin, Smith, Steven, Hill, Cockatoo, (D.Cameron , Rankine)

Some questions if i may to everyone
1. Why is there such a Lot of love for Oliver after a disappointing season last year (imo) , ????????
2. King will he play and what's his story
3. Gone for Kelly in the Mids but would Cogs be a better option
4. Have Nic Nat to get 5th Mid in Kelly , should i go back and have say A.Brayshaw instead and change back to Max which is what i had

Thx for your thoughts , i'm happy with Steven and Docherty going by all reports from club people ,
Nic Nat and Hill and Robertson will all be judged in pre season games and Cockatoo just hope he gets a game (heaps of talent)

Yeah a little risk but could reap huge rewards thou

IMO

1 Because he is a class player ave 111 over 3 years and at 23 in 2020 has plenty of upside. Melbourne were too bad to be true in 2019.

2 You mean Max King? Already had a knee reco and tall key fwds take a long time to come good as a rule. He needs experience but St Kilda won’t rush him. Not sure he is a viable rookie option.

3 Staying away from all GWS mids. Too many mouths to feed.

4 I prefer Gawn but it boils down to if you think you can get more points from the player that you can get in against the points you get from Nic Nat. Gawn hit 130 or better 10 times last year inc a 212 which makes him a great C option. NicNat has only hit 130 plus 7 times in the last 4 years.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your thoughts Manikato1 , have had Grundy/Gawn last few seasons and the only way for me to strengthen the Mids was to go Nic Nat , my only other option would be to drop Kelly to Brayshaw and go back to Gawn , i guess you can't always get what you want unless you can see other options , i sometimes have blinkers on which limits my vision ......
Do appreciate the thoughts thou.

He had double shoulder surgery in the off season last year, that and the fact that Melbourne were awful meant that he started quite slowly for his standards and finished better in the second half of the season, he also didn't deviate much in scoring the 2 years before which means his price stays high (so if you want him he isn't a good upgrade target).

Now, if you think that those things added up to a 109 ave season, what can the bloke do with a full preseason and a few more wins?

Agreed. And add to that Melb got some more outside run which should give better balance to melb and oliver.

I'm not sold yet on Houston as D1. Do you think he will average over 100? I have players like Lloyd, Williams, Laird, Stewart and Sicily (if he plays back) ahead of him so think you need one of those more 'premium' players locked in.

Your team is very similar to mine, except I've dropped Whitfield down to Heeney as I think the injury risk is too high at 600k. With the cash I have a better D1 (I went Williams, love how he does it) and M5 (Dunkley, pushing Oliver to 5th mid).

Just some thoughts, happy new year :D!
