Tom Lynch will be able to train twice a week for the first time this season after Richmond's bye in a fortnight, with Tigers coach Damien Hardwick full of admiration for the key forward's efforts so far this season.

Considering Lynch was not a full fitness until Round 22 or there about.

With a full pre-season it would not be unreasonable for him to raise his base scores and minimise the differential between his best and worst games.

Before anyone mentions the MCG, Collingwood played more games at the MCG in 2019 than Richmond.

I picked up Lynch for about 250k as my F7 forward loop and it was one of the better moves I made all last season. I'm really liking that draw and decided to start him over Dusty to free up cash to turn my mid premos to top line midfield premos.

Currently at F2 with Devon Smith at F3. Hopefully the forward rookies are strong so I can run this forwardline.

Some good info here.

If/when he gets back to full fitness, would you expect him to play a different (more SC friendly) role, or to play a similar role but be more effective at it?
As the season wore on Lynch became much more mobile and started to gell with Riewoldt and Dusty often playing as deep forward. The structure allowed Lynch to play a lot higher up the ground when the ball was in oppos defence, once the ball was back in Tiger hands he could act as the 'get out' option with Dusty often isolated one on one forward. When Lynch played deep forward with Riewoldt they would split the defence and limit oppos ability to play two or three on one which was happening to Lynch earlier in year when Jack was out.

I would assume that the back end of the year is more indicative of Lynch's scoring patterns and he should get better with a full pre season and more experience in working with Jack and Dusty and a more natural understanding of the game plan.

My team with Lynch in it.......I've also tried to maximise DPP flexibilty with swings on all lines.

Reckon you all should just gimme the 50k now so I can get the party started:cool:

That’s a pretty good effort if you’re new to AFL SC. Structure looks pretty good - while it should ultimately be determined by rookie depth, it’s a good starting point.

Notable player choices, in my view, are:

Rich. He’s on many ‘never again’ lists after being a perennial underperformer who finally came good in 2019. The negative is that he’s priced off that average, so unless you think he’s a massive beneficiary of the new rules from last year (which may be the case), he’s probably not one to start at that price. You could switch him for Doc and save cash, which would be more conventional and an upgrade in my view.

J Kelly. He’s arguably injury prone and in my view therefore more suited to being an upgrade target (because you’re exposed to his injury risk for a shorter period). Taking on injury risk is fine (if a player is discounted, or likely to improve their scoring), but it’s easier to bear this if it is spread, on deeper lines, and/or not that large across your team. I’d be mildly concerned about an injury prone mid if I was going only four deep. More durable options could include Neale and Oliver.

Jacobs. It looks like almost everyone will end up starting Gawn and Grundy, which history suggests rarely works well, although it worked tremendously last year. Personally I think Jacobs is a viable option, so long as he is fit and Mumford is playing little or no ruck. Some excellent midfielders to hit it to and historically he’s extremely durable. Worth flagging that his premium scoring years came under the old ruck scoring system, which favoured him more.

Greene. Personally I just don’t see the appeal from an SC perspective, unless you want to pick a player you like watching. Creates headaches every year with suspensions and injury, and played some mid time last year that potentially inflates his price versus what he’ll get this there given GWS will presumably have fewer mid injuries. I’d suggest making life easier for yourself ?

Wingard. Probably just below premium level in my view even when he’s playing well. Super talented but he just hasn’t kicked on in SC.

Lynch. Could be a bit like Wingard with a caveat. He was supposed to score better at Richmond but from memory had an early injury, albeit he also was playing a pretty SC-unfriendly role (few possessions, big focus on kicking goals). I’d suggest Wingard and Lynch to Dusty (highly durable, near lock to be a top forward) and a rookie could be worthwhile, and I suspect it would free up a little cash too.

Best of luck!
Short is my preferred player over Docherty after 2 knees and 100k cheaper plus an old Houli.
Wingard is soft but will play more midfielder at Hawks. Greene is just my favorite and can go big. Jacobs is the only option if you don't go set and forget. New to this is not SC but this forum.

I think Jack Riewoldt might take some points away from Lynch but Lynch is still in a far, far better situation than he was at the suns.

- He has frequent inside 50’s with good delivery heading his way. He never had this at the suns.
- He doesn’t have two or three guys hanging off him every time the ball comes his way
- He will not always draw the best defender due to Jack being in the team.
- No forward can ever conjure anything up at the suns.
- He had a 99 avg in his last 10 games last year including finals
- He said last year that he had no preseason and the AFL season itself was his preseason. He was also playing injured in 2017 and 2018. This year like it's mentioned, he has a full preseason.

It’s actually a little bit unclear whether two gun forwards get in each others way in terms of scoring but it’s very clear that key forwards in good teams score far far better.

At the moment I’m starting Lynch at F3 with Whitifled and Dusty at F1 and F2 and Devon Smith at F4. I like the fact he's flying under the radar.

A lot of talk here about Lynch as a quick money earner, but what about JJK who is another $50k cheaper? Was clearly injured last year, WC still contending with an amazing midfield and always kicks goals
I'm getting Lynch thinking that I can keep him, I think he's too expensive to be a money maker in a forward line where a 90 average is all you might need for a top 8-10 player. If he makes a bit of money thats an alright fallback but if he's made money at his price he's probably already a keeper.

His 9 last year (when I owned him) put him firmly on my never again list.

Fair calls - they seem like valid arguments, I’ve just landed the other way on a couple of them.

Welcome aboard!

Sorry, it was Darling, my mistake, wrong eagles key forward. Fully agree with your reasoning there as to why not to select him.
That's my one hesitation in picking Lynch and why I'd rather pick Jack Steven - key forwards can go on putrid runs of form and aren't just inconsistent game-to-game but also year-to-year. Darling and Tom Hawkins were both examples of that.

Agree completely. Every key forward has been automatically ruled out for me this year, as I got burned by 3 of them last year - my stupidity for picking them though.

I will admit that I am warming slightly to Lynch, I probably should have hung onto him last year after starting him (which I know was stupid - he was always a trade in later option, only reason I started him was his previous scores against Carlton). If I do get a key forward, against my better judgement, Lynch is the only one I would consider.

He’s a no brain pick for me, too much upside to ignore IMO. Doubt he stays under the radar the closer we get to round 1 though. I don’t think we’ve gone close to seeing his best yet.

Does add to the problem for that bye round but that’s something to worry about 12 weeks into the season.

Hi guys, first time poster here.
I must admit I watched some of your posts last year and found the information valuable and insightful.
I've been SuperCoaching for many years but would love any feedback on my current team.
Obviously this team is hoping for some solid rookies in Defence.
While he is cheap for what he could produce I'm not totally sold on NicNat yet... Alternative is he becomes Gawn and Sicily becomes Dyl Roberton. Screenshot_2020-01-10-16-30-24-36_f9537d3117b147e48f5e2aeb5429cc0b.png

Nice team.

I'm only a 2nd year Supercoacher but I too am suss on forward rookies.

I do worry about having too many players coming back from injuries and interrupted pre seasons.
Cockatoo
Stevens
Whitfield (ankle reco)
Naitanui
Hill
Docherty
Could be a game changer if most of them come off, but a little too risky for me.

Cheers for the feedback.
It is a concern and may ultimately lead me away from NicNat. Although would expect most teams to have at least 3 or 4 of those guys.
They will all have to be closely monitored throughout the preseason before locking in.

Yeah, making a team at this time of year is pretty much a 'watch n act' operation

I'm finding this quite the philosophical experience. Gives me plenty of time to let my ideas percolate before settling on my strategy before JLT & throwing it all out the window following the crowd with JLT bolters that flop out of the gates come the real stuff (y)

The thing about NicNat is that he didn’t actually finish the season injured.. his injured knee now has an extra 6 months of work and hopefully the ankle is right as rain... if he’s the professional guy I think he is he would’ve kept going over the break and I fully expect barring a new injury that he’ll be a better player than last year.. take the knee injuries and the ankle out which was essentially a collision injury with Gov, NicNat has been pretty resilient since his groins were sorted out
