Mitch Hibberd must be close, right? As the Rookie situation is dire (C'mon, lets' face it, it always is). In Rookie selection world - Anyone I likely select might only last a week or two at any rate. Thinking if I start with Hibberd as the only doughnut, I can maximise other rookies opportunity. Then by the time Hibberd plays - round 2 or 3, I will likely have my doughnut elsewhere. Worst case scenario, I have a non-floating donut... Which was likely anyway with Coombes or Conroy or whoever in the ruck. THoughts?
I think there are a few that will start with Hibberd in their squads, me included.

Edit - oh - I see already had popular consideration

PHANTOM’S MARCH VERDICT: With the lack of starting options, less than two weeks out from Round 1, stashing Hibberd on your bench is worth some thought.
I doubt Hibberd would come in during Round 2 or 3. I think if he was a chance that early he would've at least played one half in Marsh 2. I'm thinking he'll need 3-4 strong games in the VFL and really need to force his way in. There is a VFL practice game during Round 1 of the AFL season which I think Hibberd would play. Doubt it'd be enough to push his way in that early. (have now learnt that the VFL was offically cancelled). Let's not forget that he was only a rookie selection that no other side wanted!

Heppell will be back between R2-4 from what I've read as well, which probably doesn't help his chances.

Better to leave Hibberd as a downgrade option in my view.

One good thing about having minimum of 2 sides in each state is the non selected players can have a Derby type hit out to maintain some fitness lvl

Most likely follow suit i think the danger with those leagues is the comings and goings of the non fulltime staff and umpires etc
Might find out tomorrow , Marsh has meet with the board , players executive and captains today.

Phone hook up with all players being held tonight.

17 round season being proposed , more games each week etc etc.

Just have to wait and see

Sounds like they already come to a decision and before talking to the players holding a press conference. Sounds to me like its gonna b suspended.

Marchbank ruled out for round 1. Williamson the likely replacement. Does he go when Marchbank returns as early as round 2 though? ?
Interestingly the AFL Authors had already assumed Marchbank was missing in their predicted sides and still had Williamson missing.... Newman picked as the 7th defender.
