Listed on the GC site as 195cm. I had no idea he was that tall! Also listed as a “key forward”. For the reasons outlined in my earlier post, I watched him pretty closely last year. I kinda saw him as a Mills type rather than a Sicily. I’ll have to go back and check the stats and heat maps but from memory his best games saw him getting the intercepts more up the ground / in the midfield and hitting targets in the forward line on the rebound for score involvement points. He also snuck up for a couple of goals in those games.

A couple of contested intercepts per game will certainly lift the numbers.
Lukosius is definitely capable of intercepting, just didn't do so consistently last season. Still has a few things to work on in his contested game and his positioning to be a more consistent intercept type I think. He played as a 3rd tall for most of the season and then was freed up as more of a flanker when GC brought Graham in later on. He scored back to back 130s as soon as Graham came in (coincidence?) and then fell off a cliff in the last 3 games. I'm not sure he's the best defender going around though, seems to get lost a bit and spent a fair bit of time trailing opponents. Fatigue might've had something to do with that.

The thing that stood out to me is how often he'd go from a nothing score to 50 at half time with a couple of kicks. I'm not sure I've ever seen a player hit targets 50-70 metres away so easily, his kicks have this fairly unique combination of length and perfectly markable trajectory. Even the best long kicks like Rich and Hurn generally have to go with bullet passes or kick it a bit higher.

North Melb.
Based on watching Port games he generally gets mid minutes when Rockliff and/or Wines are missing.

Could very well be watching the wrong player as well all though with 2-3 key forwards , a ruck , 2-3 key backs most other players are just following the ball around in a 50 metre range.

Oh for the coach brave enough to hold 2-3 players inside F50 and then just have 2 long kicks to find them.

Could completely change the game.
Unwilling to answer the question! As a true politician, will he be relevant when the borders shut without notice?

Closing the border with Victoria (again) in 33 minutes time.

And they gave notice at approximately 6pm.

Given we are going into meltdown for a few cases , suspect we will have hubs again somewhere , sometime in 2021.

@Ironhawk

Any thoughts on Koschitzke , seen his named mentioned in other places a bit lately.

Cheers
I haven't seen him train/play myself, just relying on word of mouth and limited videos, but he seems to be getting decent wraps from the regular track watchers on BF. Jeka seems to be the slightly better performing tall forward option though based on sessions so far, but I think both are meant to be looking good. Good to see there's a few younger players showing something - could be a few early season debuts. Would think Kosi might be given a crack first out of those two (him and Jeka), and there should be at least one forward spot for the taking thanks to Patton out and Gunston injured. I wouldn't expect great SC scores based on the type of player, but who knows.

Others such as @Goodie's Guns might be able to give more reliable thoughts. :)

I think it’s a near certainty unfortunately. As a minimum, it is very likely that games will need to be relocated on short notice / rescheduled. Get the feeling this could be another compromised season unfortunately.

It amazes me the NFL can put together a pretty much unaffected season while the entire country is bathing in COVID and the AFL has no chance with a couple of active cases across the country at any time and Goodell is an incompetent moron so imagine what that makes Gil...

Tennessee, Baltimore, Denver and a few others beg to differ about the unaffected part, but ultimately it boils down to both the organization and the states not giving a ****.

Here the AFL could run an entire season without an issue... if it wasn't for the constant closing of state borders.

Thanks for that , I will put him on my watch list and see what happens closer to Round 1.

J Lukosius:

2020:
Clangers= 50
Last 3 matches= 19 Clangers
Average from RD1 to RD14: 88.57 from 14
Would be a brave selection, im considering. Suns Def will see plenty of the sherrin. I'm confident you have some stats on kick returns from last season. Was Lukosius the primary kick return.?

"unaffected" at what cost, and to whom? That's what it boils down to.

Duggan avg'd 98.1 over 8 games in the second half of last season once moved to the midfield. No reason he can't increase on that with more time in the guts and more experience with the midfield group. He was originally recruited to the club as a mid. Still only 24 so probably hasn't played his best footy yet either. The recruitment of Witherden frees him up for the move as well.
I had a look at Duggan's numbers from round 9 onward and aside from a slight increase in his disposal count nothing stands out. No appreciable increase in metres gained, score involvement, DE, TOG, intercepts, marks or tackles. Contested possession rate remained extremely low and he still recorded 0-1 tackles in multiple games playing more time in the midfield.

But there's still the massive jump in SC scoring. What am I missing?

I'll second those questions above. His CBA numbers are only high in one game where there other key mids out. Welcome your views.

It's an interesting one, stats support more of a wing role but:

Tackles doubled, possessions are up 10%, Clearances doubled, R50 up 50% and I50 up a third, also had a couple of goal assists (none in first half).

Saying each one of those extra stats is worth 2 points would explain the jump more or less. Most of those are worth more than 2 points as well.

Without having all the detailed scoring parameters from CD for all the games... I don't think there is going to be an obvious answer that you can directly pinpoint how he exactly gained all the extra points. The role change was definitely visible though, and there was an uptick in almost all areas of his stats. He avg'd 68.87 SC in the first 8 games, which jumped to 98.12 SC in the last 8 games.

I suspect a lot would have to do with where and how he was getting and disposing of the ball. In the first half of the season he was playing solely off half back, a lot of uncontested possessions and possessions that didn't really hurt the opposition. Once he moved to a more midfield role (whilst still clocking some time at half back)... He was getting more contested stuff in the middle of the ground in a much more damaging position, and was also using it well... often kicking it to dangerous positions in the forward line.

The role change was very obvious and resulted in him finishing 5th in our B&F. So the coaches where impressed with his season too.

Probably not much of a help to you, but it's a pity there is only 1 pre-season game this year to see him in the new role, I like seeing comments like this from training observers though...

Not sure if his CBA numbers will rise, as we liked him charging in off half-back more than starting him in the guts. But the arrival of Witherden might have free'd him up even more so than the back half of last season.

Thank you! Now how the hell do I fit him in! Does he warrant a spot? Can I run him and Zac?

RE Duggan my understanding of CD’s scoring is clearances, I50’s and metres gained don’t score points. Happy to be corrected but I’d imagine CP’s and Score Assists would’ve helped a lot playing in the middle.
Score involvements I believe are though and I50 would make them far more likely to happen. Imagine that's another hidden stat that would have been up in the back half from playing higher and more direct.
