The Hawks first pick in that draft was Nick Ries, at pick 21. I was a bit surprised to see he played 81 games, possibly a bit lucky he got that many. This was between 2002 and 2006, which was not exactly a great few years for the Hawks, so there wasn't much competition for spots. Clarko delisted him as part of the rebuild in his first few years, but to be fair most of the list needed to go...

JARROD Brander has signed with Greater Western Sydney as a delisted free agent.
Brander was a member of the Giants' academy before being drafted by West Coast in 2017.
He played 22 games for the Eagles across four seasons before being delisted at the end of the 2021 trade period.
GWS's football boss Jason McCartney said it was a homecoming of sorts for the 196cm Brander.
"We're really excited to welcome Jarrod back to the Giants," McCartney said.
"We obviously had a strong connection with him up until his draft year and have tracked his career closely.
"We identified a need to bring in another tall option and given we've lost some experience through retirements and delistings, it's great to add a player who has already been in the system for a few years."

As a WCE supporter I cannot say I am a fan of the JK/Bunga re signings. IMO we need new blood and delaying that is not helping.
I'm a bit torn, both are absolute legends of the club and deserve to go out on their own terms. I think both can still contribute some pretty good footy next season as well as providing great on-field leadership. However as you said we do need to start rebuilding at some stage.

Nisbett has been pretty vocal lately about how last season was completely unacceptable, and that there has been a pretty brutal review with a lot of changes implemented. Bringing in two really good assistants in Schofield & Knights is a great first step. It seems with new voices in the coaching ranks, hopefully a new game plan, a vastly improved fitness base and the additions of Rioli, SPS, and any rookies... that we are giving it one last shot with this squad.

Then after next season we'll have a lot of retirements, freeing up salary cap space, and can hit the draft hard for a few years. Next years crop is apparently really strong. Nailing these first three picks we have this year is crucial, and preferably with 3 top midfield prospects.

We cannot afford to have another season this year however, and I personally don't think we will.

Pretty much agree. Most likely they will not drag the team down but I do not think they can add much more either hence time to move on and get the rebuild going. Definitely need mids and at least one good inside bull. However knowing WCE they will draft 3 tall defenders.
