Pretty much agree. Most likely they will not drag the team down but I do not think they can add much more either hence time to move on and get the rebuild going. Definitely need mids and at least one good inside bull. However knowing WCE they will draft 3 tall defenders.
Indeed, my hope is that they take Matthew Johnson with our first pick (he is the classy mid we need/ good inside & out ) & Angus Sheldrick is still on the board for our 2nd pick - the ideal inside bull for us.
Here is his draft profile :-
Angus Sheldrick

POSITION: Inside Midfielder SNAPSHOT: "A strong inside bull who bustles through congestion, and provides consistent ball winning output through sheer will and determination." Over a two-year period where so many draft prospects have lacked the opportunity, some have taken each of theirs remarkably well. One such AFL hopeful is Angus Sheldrick, who has played himself into top 30 contention on the back of a remarkably consistent body of work. The Claremont product and Christ Church Grammar skipper had an early finish to his 2020 campaign, but has shown marked resilience and a strong rate of development in 2021 through his desire to work and improve. He is a player who hardly has a bad outing and can be turned to in the trenches, producing game-winning efforts by making the best of what he has. From a fringe state Under 19s squad member to squad barometer, Sheldrick's top-age season has proven a memorable one. STRENGTHS: + Contested ball + Strength + Work rate + Toughness + Consistency + Scoreboard impact IMPROVEMENTS: - Kick consistency - Athleticism Sheldrick is the type of player who loves to compete. While standing at a modest 179cm, his 88kg frame and sheer hunger for the contest make for imposing traits. As is particularly evident against his peers, the 17-year-old is strongly built and proves dominant at stoppages, burrowing in before forcing a way out with his pumping legs and upper-body braun. Much of his work is done by force, putting his side on the front foot in whatever way possible.

Agree... They are the two I really want as well.

Unfortunately the stock of both has risen dramatically the last few months. Really hope Johnson is there for our first pick but if he is gone, there will be a great midfielder pick at that spot provided someone takes a punt on Mac Andrew before us (Likely), and Freo (or someone else) take Jye Amiss who is probably the best key forward in the draft... Freo would be crazy not to take him with one of their two picks... leaving a highly rated slider like Erasmus, Rachele or maybe Ward. Think Freo will take Erasmus though.

Then it's just hoping Sheldrick lasts to our next pick.

If Sheldrick is gone, Kade Dittmar is another option :-

Kade Dittmar
height: 186cm
weight: 86kg
Age: 18

POSITION: Inside Midfielder

SNAPSHOT: "A bull-like inside ball winner who loves the tough stuff, inflicting damage with his strength and tackling." A full season of football has been a long time coming for Kade Dittmar, but that is exactly what he achieved this year. He represented Western Australia at Under 16 level and after spending his fair share of time on the sidelines, repeated the feat as an Under 19 in 2021. While arguably his best football was played at representative level, the 18-year-old also managed to crack the WAFL League and Reserves grades on the back of his bullocking Colts form, and impressed all season with his level of intensity in midfield. STRENGTHS: + Contested ball + Clearances + Aggression + Strength + Tackling IMPROVEMENTS: - Kicking - Consistency Watch Dittmar once and you'll know what he's all about. With strength at the contest mixed with aggression to power through opponents and hand out fend-o***, the East Perth ball winner is a force on the inside. Clearances are his forte, and are earned through desire as Dittmar wills his way in and out of the fire. While his aggression at the ball is eye-catching, Dittmar also translates that trait to his defensive work. Still at the contest, he is difficult to escape from once he has latched on and executes punishing tackles on opponents who have either just received the ball, or are looking to carry it to the outer.

There is currently an article on the AFL website with a poll on introducing a mid season trade period:

https://www.afl.com.au/news/687258/barrett-the-case-for-a-mid-season-trade-period-have-your-say-now

I think it’s a good idea, it works well enough in pretty much all other sports. Normally I would say the AFL are too conservative, as they have been hesitant in allowing players to change clubs mid season previously, but if they have a poll on their website about it, it seems they must be seriously considering introducing it.

How so? Captain of the football club has recently underwent chemotherapy after a secondary cancer occurrence a few months ago and a pretty easy decision for management, the playing group and all involved at the club to make.
I think he's more saying its a shame that Jones has dug his heels in so far that this ended up being the only option. And it is, he's been a good player, but the AFL's (and the club's) position clearly makes his spot untenable.

I wonder if this is why we traded for Lewis Young. That always looked a bit weird on paper.

Not a fan of the AFL's stance. Didn't like him being named whilst still pondering his decisions.

NORTH Melbourne has pulled off a stunning free agency coup, pinching star midfielder Hugh Greenwood from Gold Coast after he was surprisingly cut last week to help the club's list strategy.
It's understood the Kangaroos have signed Greenwood to a two-year deal as a delisted free agent, beating the Suns to his signature after they had promised to re-list the experienced onballer during next week's NAB AFL Draft.
Greenwood, who still had two years to run on his contract at Metricon Stadium, was delisted from Gold Coast last week with the promise of being re-drafted. The club later said it had made the move to add greater flexibility to its list management process.

Wow

Wow indeed!

This is why you don’t bend the rules with your best players. It can come back and bite you in the butt like it has here!

Hugh Greenwood

Greenwood featured in 15 of 22 games for the Suns in season 2021 and one of the 15 games that he featured in he suffered a knee injury and didn’t get a disposal in Round 17. When taking that into account, it’s incredible that he averaged the second most contested possessions of any Gold Coast player, with an average of 12.07 per game.
What was even more incredible was that he averaged the most clearances of any Suns player in season 2021 with an average of 6.20 per game. He also averaged the most centre clearances of any Suns player with an average of 2.27 centre clearances per game, which was more than Touk Miller.
Last but not least, Greenwood worked hard defensively, as he incredibly averaged the most tackles per game of anyone in the competition with an average of 8.6 per game, inclusive of Round 17, where he had none!

Huge mistake in not signing him up

Well, that's a shock. Suns will be a basket case for years the way they are going. Not sure what odds they are for the spoon in 2022, but I'm calling it now.

Good get by the Roos!
