In the past I've never had the time to do any proper research until about a week before the season starts.
Plus, I'd been a fan but never paid attention to the fantasy side of things.

Now, after 4 years of RDT fantasy I think I'm ready for draft.
I still don't have the depth of knowledge I think you need but........
You have a far greater depth of knowledge than you give yourself credit for given your posts throughout the season.

There are multiple sites which do "mock drafts" which give you an insight of where players will be in any particular round in the draft. Whilst a lot of people stop being active after the first 4 or 5 rounds, you do see different strategies invoked which helps when the real thing happens.

Whilst the draft is important, being actively involved in the waiver wire each week, will significantly added to your likely success. This and trading means you should never to out of the mix.

As an experienced Draft player, I'm not going to lie and say that I wouldn't feel confident of doing well against most novice players on this site. However, given most here also follow expert ranking sites and look for value players to increase their team value, you all again have more knowledge and expertise than you give yourselves credit.

So let's get 10 to 12 really interested and rock some draft leagues.

I hope I didn't give the wrong impression.
I'm very experienced in AFL drafts. I'm a long-term participant in DT Shiva and a regular SC Draft comp.
So I'm quite familiar with the waiver wire and trading.
However, a lot of my success has tended to come from late round draft picks succeeding, e.g. Hickey as my ruck in SC draft last year.
It's that depth of knowledge I've doubted.

However, as I said, I feel I'm ready to go in an NFL draft.
And knowing that, I'll do my best to do the proper research well in advance.

I do have a couple of questions, though, @KLo30:
First, do you draft QBs early or late?
I've had some success in the AFL drafting rucks late and it seems to me that drafting QBs late is the way to go.
In RDT this year there were 12 QBs averaging within 10 points of each other: 47-37.
By comparison: among the RBs the top 3 were at least 4 points clear of the rest; for WRs it was the top 4 that were 3 points clear.

Second, do you have a preferred squad structure?
My preference would be for larger squads but limited positions
e.g. I don't particularly like having DST and kickers; and I'm totally ignorant when it comes to the better scoring defensive players.

I know it's late in the season but if we got to thinking about it now I think it could be useful.

The Cincinnati Bengals will go into their season finale without two above-average Joes.

Running back Joe Mixon tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, per a source. Mixon, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, is currently asymptomatic, Pelissero added.

The Bengals will also be without their starting quarterback against Cleveland, as Joe Burrow told reporters Wednesday that he does not expect to play. Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor later confirmed that Burrow will rest and sit out Week 18.

Rupert - I hope I can try answer some of these for you? The best QBs (Allen, Mahomes, Kyler) and generally picked between Rounds 3-5, with the rest picked later on. With the number of QBs available in general, it does make sense for them to be drafted in later rounds. If you check fantasypros they place a ADR (average draft rank) for all the players including QBs. A lot of the QBs are in the latter rounds. And due to there being more QBs than Squads you’ll almost always have undrafted QBs that you can pick off Waiver Wire. You can carry 2 QBs in your team but you’ll always only be able to play 1

The standard squad most NFL fantasy teams opt with is QB RB RB WR WR TE UTL UTL (utility = WR/RB/TE) with no DST and no Kickers, but the DST & K can be opt in / opt out

Unsure what @KLo30’s preferred configuration is though - am curious also

I personally usually draft QBs later. QBs start coming off the board in rounds 3 or 4, but I'll wait until at least 3 or 4 more rounds.

I usually play in standard leagues which are QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, Flex, K, DST with 6 or 7 bench spots. Most of the fantasy advice in articles or podcasts relates to standard 10 team leagues. That's a good size for a league, as it means that there should be usable talent on the waiver wire each week.

I draft kickers and DST in the last two rounds.

Perhaps worth gauging some interest now or wait until July/Sep?
I'd like to see who's interested now. Would you be prepared to be Manager/Commissionaire?
Obviously, things can change and no-one can commit absolutely but if we can get some idea now it will probably be easier to organize later in the year.
And on my part, knowing I'll be drafting will change my approach to the NFL season: I'll not leave my research until the last week or two; I'll research player positions much deeper than I normally would. e.g. RB/WR down to #40-odd rather than only the top-10.

I'm happy to Manage/Commissioner if we run with the Sleeper app (did it for some of the NBA draft leagues I organised) - unless someone else would like the gig?
