Great stuff, glad the tool actually worked!
Sorry, haven't been online, had a sporting accident before Christmas and tore both quad tendons, it's been quite the experience.šŸ¤’
The real hard work was.done by @HoleyFrijole$ scraping the prices šŸ’Ŗ
Ouch, that sounds painful! Hope you are recovering well so far!

Hello everyone

I would appreciate some help with some questions:
  • How much remaining salary is considered sufficient?
  • How many players coming back from injury is considered too much?
    • Marchbank
    • Curnow
    • Whitfield - could get an injury blowing his nose
    • Hollands
  • Is Dunkley value for money consider the plethora of quality midfielders in the Footscray midfield?

Notes on the Team
Defence

  • Lloyd - Premium defensive player for a long time
  • Hall - Surprise packet from last year
  • Short - Scoring to improve with a more settled defensive unit
  • Whitfield - too cheap to ignore but very injury prone
  • Marchbank - Potential of very good growth and very unlikely to be omitted unless injured
Midfield
  • Macrae - Premium midfielder
  • Steele - 3 scores less than 100 in 2021 (91, 91 & 99)
  • Brayshaw - I expect a far bit of growth (scored 190 in round 20) due to:
    • Fyfe ongoing injuries
    • Mundy approaching 150 years old.
  • Neale - too cheap to ignore but very injury prone in 2020 - 2021
  • Rookies - I do not want to be chasing rookies like last year, premium price, set and forget
    • Horne - Francis
    • Macrae
    • Daicos
    • Ward
    • D. Stephens
Rucks
  • Darcy - scoring potential very high
  • Marshall
    • Is Ryder going to affect his scoring?
    • Different bye round (Darcy, Gawn, McInerney, and Grundy all have the same)
This is where I have had the most trouble, with the Gawn/Grundy looming large or are they on the way out?

Forwards
  • Dunkley - FOMO, still worried about that extended Footscray midfield
  • Martin - under priced and earmarked for more midfield time
  • Coniglio - he burnt me very badly last year, too cheap to ignore - boom/bust
  • Curnow - Potential of very good growth and very unlikely to be omitted unless injured
  • Rachele - I expect good job security, expecting mid range average scores (ticking over)
I would appreciate any feedback

Hi Toothless Tigers - Iā€™m still getting into preseason prep at this stage, but I can offer some thoughts on your questions.

(1) I usually like $100-150k of spare cash. Ideally this would be a bit greater at this stage because we donā€™t know which rookies will turn up. Personally I donā€™t like going into round 2 with no cash (it has a significant impact on flexibility for round 3 corrections, which are amongst the most important trades all year), and I think itā€™s best to save some additional cash at this stage (ie more in preseason than in your actual starting side - and best not to have none in your starting side either!). I find that the best way to do that is to choose several rookies above minimum price that you donā€™t actually expect to start with. I find if you pick a mid pricer as a placeholder, you risk getting wedded to them!

(2) It depends a bit on the risk of recurrence of the injury, whether theyā€™re in an important structural location (eg R2), whether you have flex elsewhere in your squad to cover them (eg via bench depth, DPP, or durability elsewhere on that line or elsewhere in your squad), whether itā€™s a clear cut injury or one of those one week issues that lingers for months, and so on. Your side doesnā€™t look silly to me, in part because you have someone like Preuss at R3 partially as cover for Marshall/Darcy, rather than taking on Preuss himself at R2, for example. In general I want to select players who are discounted for last seasonā€™s injuries, but that do not have reasons for me to believe that theyā€™ll have significant injuries again in 2022 (eg Iā€™d much rather a generally durable Neale than someone who is perpetually injured like a Fyfe, and I like someone like a Hollands who was already fit again by the end of 2021, but is still cheap).

(3) He could be good value, or he could be fair value or thereabouts. Personally I think the reason to pick him is that heā€™s very likely to be a top forward, rather than a value argument. The fact that the Dogs have such a deep midfield would be bad if Dunkley was mid only, but itā€™s also the thing that provides us with the opportunity of Dunkley as a forward. For me, sharing the midfield opportunity and the points is not a bad thing, so long as itā€™s sharing ā€œupwardsā€ (a forward eligible player getting mid time), rather than downwards (a mid only player having to play forward a significant portion of the time).

I made one change to increase the Remaining Salary to $134,400
Out - Finlay Macrae
In - Nathan O'Driscoll

I moved Dylan Stephens off the bench and by bringing in Nathan O'Driscoll created a Mid/Def link with Whitfield.

That sounds good to me. Stephens is probably a bit expensive as a bench rookie (albeit someone like him can work as a placeholder for spare cash), and the DPP link is always handy.

Hey guys, wrong thread, do we have a thread for AFL Dream team or Fantasy? Thinking of giving it a go this year. No idea what the difference is between the 2 tbh. šŸ˜

We usually have a thread for each, feel free to start either or both.

RDT is basically SC with fixed points for scoring acts (more like BBL - thereā€™s no scaling, contested possessions, ineffective disposals etc).

AF is basically RDT with more trades and an infuriating platform. Can still be a bit of fun if youā€™re keen/patient though.

Thanks Darkie, think I'll stick to DT, haven't played for years, but missing the fixed scoring.

I stopped playing AFL Fantasy as it moved away from DT.
  • AFL Fantasy - has 2 trades per round (use it or lose it)
  • AFL Fantasy - prices increase after 1 game

Hey mate, i will give a reply to what i think - bare in mind there is no right or wrong answer to some of these and everyone see's it differently. Also you can plan or pick the safest team you possibly can but you need that element of luck in my opinion.

  • How much remaining salary is considered sufficient? - i could spend half a day trying to answer this one and still wouldn't be definitive in my answer. It depends on quite a few things IMO. Firstly, lets say you have selected your 11-14 premiums to start with and regardless of how they all start, and you don't chase after a Bont who you didn't select and he starts with huge scores, you stick with them yea? therefore i'd say you do not require any spare change to start the season for prem swapping. Secondly, midpricers - if you have identified say 3-6 midpricers you like and lets say you start 3 of them, obviously they will all differ in price, if one doesn't work out you may want enough funds to easily go with the one you didn't start? But for me it's the third reason - rookies. If you do not have enough money to easily bring a rookie who appears a must have, and you are making multiple trades just to bring him in this is where having a kitty to start with could be important. For example, Joshua Rachele, ADL F/M 180k rookie comes out and you want him, its hard to do this for a 123k rookie who got injured or dropped for the 2nd game. - I personally think the smartest thing to do is go in with as many of the more expensive rookies as you can (that are playing) from the start and be happy with your structure and prem selections. Just so if you need to bring in a rookie you can literally quite easily and probably do this without worrying about how much to start with. The easiest way to answer this is though, as much as you can. Being happy with your selections and having 100k or something is great. I think the best fantasy managers out there make really good trades early to generate a kitty whilst probably increasing points.

  • How many players coming back from injury is considered too much?
    • Marchbank - haven't actually considered personally, 2 years not playing with all the changes in that team not to mention multiple coaches, just a no from me.
    • Curnow - if there are no interruptions pre season, being best 22 won't be an issue and i'm in.
    • Whitfield - could get an injury blowing his nose - it is hard not to start this guy, if a gun when going. I currently found the money for crisp and feel good about it
    • Hollands
  • Is Dunkley value for money consider the plethora of quality midfielders in the Footscray midfield? I basically have a man crush on this guy and have selected him when a mid only! absolute lock, was leading the competition last season before his 1st injury. We have a forward who could quite easily be a top 10 mid as well? too much scoring power to not take the punt.
I hope all this sort of helps mate. I want to use as much starting money as possible personally. I think its best to have a structure and your prems set a week or so before the season starts and don't go messing with your structure just to bring in some midpricer who had a spike pre season game or something like that. An injury or something will most likely allow us to create a kitty early, or dropping a prem to a midpricer. However its probably those who can ignore their itchy trade finger early who do best in this game!

v0.5
B: Lloyd, Whitfield, Sicily, Day, Milera, Gould (De Koning, Dean)
M: Macrae, Oliver, Walsh, Neale, Rowell, Constable, Horne-Francis, Hobbs (Rioli, Clark, Long)
R: Gawn, Reeves (Williams R/F)
F: Duncan, Treloar, Taranto, Jackson (R/F), Coniglio, Hollands (J.Clarke, Peris)

This version is pretty strong with Milera as D5, Cogniglio as F5 and still has Rowell as M5. Obviously the risk / sacrifice is going Reeves as R2 and Jackson as F4 using DPP via Williams. Both both are serious breakout contenders.

Like the def. Not sure about the mids. You are asking Brayshaw, Neale and Congilio to all step up. Likewise in the fwds I am not a fan of Taranto and DeGoofy always finds ways to miss games and has never ave more than 87. What are you expecting of him? I would be expecting at least 87 of Congilio so why not put him in the fwd line. Not sure how much cash you have ITB but I think you could be struggling if you think the most expensive rookie you will want is $123k. If all the spec picks came off would be huge but is very high risk IMO.

I agree with what Manikato has said above. I do believe we need to make a team with 2 to 3 200k rookies in the middle, and a couple of 150k to 180k rookies elsewhere. Obviously rookies are guess work at this stage, but get settled with a team with more expensive rookies selected is just a recommendation.

Prems look good to me, i always think its dealer's choice with who we all select here.

I quiver at teams without set and forget rucks personally. So much can hurt you by doing this. All of a sudden at week 3 or somewhere up to week 8 you don't have a r2. Ideally you want 2 of the top3 on this line, and good luck turning preuss into gawn around week 8 when he has been pumping out back to back 150s. I've seen people move from a midpricer ruck that didn't work out to all sorts of options throughout the year and that single choice can cost you 100s of points very quickly. Preuss is so unproven at afl level, end of the day briggs or flynn can be selected here by the giants, i can't see big preuss without genuine match fitness (because he literally hasn't played) in 2 years being able to run out a game.

This is a play around with pruess at R2. my thoughts are that he is a better pick than a Horne-Francis or Daicos however I understand the risk if pruess gets dropped vs a 200k mid rookie

Don't see any problem with having Conigs in the mids, he can always be moved forward later!

Agree with Manikato that Brayshaw might not quite be a top mid premium, although I think he's some chance of jumping up to 115.

De Goey should average 100 if he plays midfield, so I like him as a forward if he's playing! I think Taranto is 50/50 - could be stuck forward at times.

As Manikato pointed out, you might need 1-2 more expensive rookies in addition to Preuss.
