Need 3 players (made up of ruckman or forwards due to DPP swings available) over the next 2 rounds to finalise my team. My current Ruck and Forward lines are as follows:
Ruck: English, Gawn (will be traded)
Forward: Dunkley, Brodie, Darcy Cameron, Butters, Coleman, Hobbs

I've been tossing up between the likes of Witts, Preuss, Himmelberg, Cogs, Bont, Jeremy Cameron, Parker.

Which 3 players would everyone take? If I take 2 of the guys <$500k I can finish my team with 6 trades left, or if I only take one of the <$500k guys I will have 5 trades left after finishing my team as I'll need to make an extra downgrade to fund the moves. Either way it will take me both rounds to finalise my team.

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts!

Witts and Bont + Himmelberg for the cash if you have the trades.

What have I missed about D'Ambrosio? Been away all week.
Essendon mid-season draft recruit Massimo D’Ambrosio is expected to make his debut against St Kilda on Friday night.

The dashing half-back flanker excelled with 32 possessions in his first VFL hitout with the Bombers last week and is tipped to get the call-up to take on the Saints.

D’Ambrosio, who was taken pick 3 in the mid-season draft, will add to the Bombers’ rebound game under the roof at Marvel Stadium.

He will help replace Darcy Parish, who copped a corked calf last week in the loss to Carlton.

D’Ambrosio, a 19-year-old from Western Jets, was selected for his run and carry, precise foot skills and vision.

Witts and Bont would be my preferred options above 500k, Cogs and Preuss below 500k.

Some people are probably aware of this, but D’Ambrosio has played two (three?) other VFL games this year.

Note that his averages are dragged down by a statless game that I assume is not representative for one reason or another:

I'm thinking that with 14 trades and 3 boosts I'm in a pretty good position to play the BE game on Daicos/Clark/McCartin (even Rozee to an extent although he will be gone next week most likely), roll the dice on Himmelberg making some quick cash (which he could do with a couple of decent games even up forward) and have a look at Bont / Mills / Stewart / Steele / Petracca on the other end.

Looking at these moves for R14, then take stock and reassess R15/16 where I'll use 5-6 trades to round out my team:

Petracca / Brodie / Thompson -> Parker / Himmelberg / D'Ambrosio

That will leave me 19 players on field this week (potential slingshots are circled, cash cows have an X, some rough estimates of what cash there might be left to make as well).

Am I being too conservative here? Should I be going harder and just forgo keeping something in reserve for later trades? Or does this seem like it is something that could work out with a little more cash gen and gradually getting to a complete team?

Round 10 was the round just before the the MSD so no surprise he didn't play there.

From memory he hurt his shoulder just before the mid season draft, that's probably the statless game

Now thinking these 2 options

Daicos to Guthrie

or

Hobbs/Daicos to Laird/Hough

Have 7 Trades before these so it would leave me with 6 and gawn or 5 and gawn lolz

Your plan looks reasonable to me, although you do have plenty of trades left, and a bit of upgrading to do. Personally I’d be trying to get that done pretty much ASAP, especially if it gets you an extra number on field this round.

You could potentially trade Clark, and it looks like you’d have 524k to get a premo in. That’s a bit tight but someone like Treloar might appeal.

Alternately, Whitfield and Rozee are guys I’d be looking to trade. Whitfield revealed an injury recently, although his role has shifted and so he may be worth keeping for now.
I can’t see a good reason to keep Rozee, so if you can get an elite player for him I’d probably do that. Maybe Bont.

Daicos is probably your only other true slingshot opportunity (ie player on the bye), but his BE is obviously low and his recent scoring very good. I’d probably give him another round or two, although you could get anyone you wanted if you did trade him, and it would give you another number this round (maybe 75 extra points?).

Personally I think Preuss and Himmelberg are clear holds - both have a lot of cash gen potential, Preuss can’t really be improved upon much at this point, and Himmelberg is similar if he keeps his role/form.

Thanks for the detailed response to a long post. 😅

Rozee is almost certainly out next week for Bont - I'm taking a calculated risk that they might edge a little closer to each other in price from both ends this week (70BE vs 132 BE), while giving me one more look at Bont and his shoulder before I lock him in.

I agree on Whitfield as well with his bad ankle, ultimately I'm looking to shift him out for Stewart when he hits his floor price 2-3 weeks from now, so hopefully Lachie can put up decent scores the next couple of weeks to close that price gap as well.

If Preuss finally sticks and Himmelberg makes enough cash in the short term (even if he doesn't turn out to be a keeper) then I think my team will be in a fairly solid position looking ahead to the last 7-8 weeks of the season.
