Rumour has it a two time brownlow medalist is exploring his options..

Victorian teams circling the 30 year old midfielder from out west!
Victorian teams, mmm.

So we can rule out:
YRA - Yorkshire
Dagobah Immortals - Celestial
Arcadia Timelords - Celestial
Creme De La Creme - Switzerland
Roppongian Rangers - Japan
Neptune Knights - Atlantis
Jabukanji Stingers - Queensland

That leaves us with:
Goodie's Giants FC - South East Melbourne
The Darkness - In the shadows (but where?)
Jordan's Jets FC - Unspecified location, much like the Thunderbirds

Could he be headed to the reigning premiers?

Much like Geelong, they seem to have a different salary cap................and an eye for talent. ;)
Fyfe…? Isn’t he a free agent..?

Yes, Fyfe is a free agent.
I was wondering if I was missing a trick here 🙂

Can I check please - if a player is delisted by their AFL club, but later picked up by a different club, what happens for UL purposes?

Asking for a friend.

Flanders leads all comers again today, with 42 touches:

27 kicks
15 handballs
9 marks
7 tackles

166 Dream Team / AFL Fantasy points
https://www.afl.com.au/news/842829/progress-not-guaranteed-dew-urges-rising-suns-to-stay-hungry

“We'd like to explore what other players we can get in there, and what different types of players," Dew said.

"Sam Flanders in particular has got different attributes to those and he's had a really good six weeks in the VFL and shown what he can do.

He should take belief out of being able to find the footy and how he found it.

"And he's different to our other players.

Flanders played nine senior games this season, but flourished in the Suns' VFL finals campaign, racking up 37, 46 and 43 disposals in consecutive weeks to show he is a cut above that level and ready to regularly contribute in the AFL.

The plot thickens!

MORE aggressive 'salary dumps' will be permitted in this year's off-season as cap space becomes an advanced trading tool for clubs.

The mechanism of trading salary cap space, as forecast by AFL.com.au last week, is set to be a major driver in next month's Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

The AFL ticks off every trade to ensure fairness is provided for clubs and has previously denied deals that they have viewed as too one-sided.

One club’s trash … ?

With the dust settling on an active AFL trade period, a number of Darkness players have been squeezed out, and find themselves without an AFL club to call home for 2023.

Chances are that some have played their last AFL game, but there’s speculation that most could be given another opportunity - either at a new club, or a chance at redemption at their existing club (see links below).

Players can still be added to AFL lists via the delisted free agent window, supplemental selection period, or rookie draft.

The list below includes some players on nice UL contracts, and we’ve seen what can happen when a player gets an opportunity at a new club - with players like Will Brodie and Patrick Lipinski going to a new level after changing clubs this year.

If you have any interest in taking a punt on one of these names, let me know:

Sydney Stack
- Came 3rd in the 2019 rising star, ahead of Bailey Smith and Nick Blakey, and averaged 80 in his first season.
- 2 years @ 480k average, plus matching rights.

Riley Collier-Dawkins
- First round from 2018, squeezed out with Hopper and Taranto going to Richmond.
- 3 years @ 200k, plus matching rights.

Quinton Narkle
- Less than 50 games to his name, but has shown a very nice ceiling, with scores of 134, 124, 115, 111 and 104.
- 3 years @ 400k.

Oleg Markov
- Can score well as a half back with blistering pace, averaged c. 80 last year ex an injury game.
- 2 years @ 320k.

Connor Blakely
- Averaged 25 touches in the WAFL, but couldn’t get a game behind Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Mundy and Fyfe.
- 1 year @ 420k.

Tyler Brown
- Hasn’t shown a lot at AFL level, but got 36% CBAs last year and is only 22.
- 2 years @ 200k.

Caleb Poulter
- 193cm mid who averaged 64 in 10 full games in his first season.
- Just finishing his first contract, so you could choose the length of his second contract with more info if he gets picked up. Average salary will be <300k even for a 5 year deal.

To be clear, as things stand, none of these guys will be on a list next year, so it would be taking a punt that they get picked up and perform in a new environment/perhaps a new role.

Pricing would, of course, reflect that fact, so a pick upgrade would suffice. The freed-up list spots are a bit of a surprise in most cases, but handy for me, so I’m happy if someone else wants to take a cheap punt on a good young prospect/nice UL contract getting a second chance.

Is anyone else interested in Connor Blakely?

- 26 year old midfielder who can also play in defence (possible DPP?)

- Averaged 25 touches in the WAFL last year, plus 5 marks and 4 tackles. Was stuck behind Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Mundy and Fyfe. Will be hoping to replicate Brodie’s 2022 exploits at Will’s former club!

- Now has a fresh start at Gold Coast, who ran the most concentrated CBA structure of all sides this season. Miller, Rowell and Anderson took essentially 2.5 out of 3 spots at each CBA. This means that if one gets injured, a lot of mid time opens up.

- Dew has since talked about diversifying the midfield more - having a larger group running through, with greater variety of players. This creates opportunity for others.

- GC are also short of defenders, with Weller and Budarick suffering LTIs. This could open up a role in defence, where Blakely has played before. These roles can be lucrative. Alternately Swallow (fourth mid in 2022) could play more in defence again, and free up midfield opportunity.

- Rankine has departed, opening up a spot in the best 22. Bowes, Markov and others are also gone.

- 1 year deal @ 417k.

- As always, I am open to different structures to find something mutually attractive.

I currently have 23 mids (yes … 23), so I can probably afford to move him on!

There has been some interest in securing his services, so if you have interest, please flag it with me soon. Happy to assist if you have any questions.

Just giving this a bump, given it didn’t even register a “like” from @Connoisseur … which made me wonder if it went into the ether!

It’s a bit academic for UL purposes, but good to see former Darkness player Tyler Brown get picked up by Adelaide, who are reportedly viewing him as an inside mid.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/01...r-collingwood-father-son-following-delisting/

Oleg Markov is training with the Pies, and Narkle with the Tigers, so there could be more former players given a second chance this season.

Unfortunately Sydney Stack appears to have some personal issues to work through, while I believe Riley Collier-Dawkins will play in the SANFL.

Connor Blakely was picked up by Gold Coast late last year.

The Darkness’ list management team is gearing up for the auction and draft in a few weeks’ time.

The club is able to offer the following:

- FWDs (6 who went 79+, plus Mclean who should exceed that, and others who may become MFs)

- DEFs (6 who went 84+, plus Short and Pendles who likely gain DPP)

- Young talent

- MID depth

- Ability to absorb some salary (eg accepting an overpriced premium, at appropriate value)

- Quality draft picks

If any of this is of interest, please just let me know.

Happy to work with other clubs to find/structure deals that work for both sides.
