I think @Professor may have posted this a few days ago as part of another post (now deleted due to lack of sources), maybe his mate did have the inside word after all...
lol, I should know to post sources, anyway it wasn't quite right, they tipped Hird to get the job and Scott to coach Brisbane. So they got the Scott to coach right, just the wrong club. 😉

Edit - They did say Scott was entering the fray for the Bombers job.

The post was actually deleted due to speculating and naming a person as being involved in the Hawthorn saga.

JORDAN De Goey has agreed to sign a five-year deal with Collingwood after turning his back on free agency and St Kilda's strong play for him.

De Goey's contract has been a central storyline to this season, with the Magpies star fielding interest from rivals throughout.

The Magpies recently upped their offer to five seasons but a sticking point had been a behavioural clause, with the 26-year-old playmaker not keen to add any further elements to his deal.

A behavioural element will exist within his deal for the first two years of the contract, which ties him to the Magpies until the end of 2027.

The Saints had been consistent in their interest in the game-breaker throughout the year and were the most likely suitor for De Goey if he departed Collingwood.

De Goey was a key member of Collingwood's surge up the ladder this season, averaging 20 disposals in his 19 games and kicking 18 goals. He was one of the players of the finals, too, with the 26-year-old best afield in the Pies' loss to Geelong in the qualifying final and again in the semi-final win over Fremantle.

Collingwood stopped contract talks with De Goey after his mid-season trip to Bali however quiet discussions continued throughout the year.

Coach Craig McRae urged De Goey to stay at the club mid-season and again after the Pies' one-point preliminary final loss to Sydney spoke of his desire for the club to re-sign the damaging midfielder.

More to come

PORT Adelaide has made a bold play for North Melbourne's No.1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis, who is keen on a bombshell move to the Power.
Horne-Francis has been unsettled at stages throughout his first year at the Kangaroos and it is understood the young star will lodge a trade request to get to the Power.
The Power are keen to land Horne-Francis and have significant ties to the midfielder, who trained with the club in his draft year and whose father is former Port Adelaide player Fabian Francis.

Horne-Francis added Francis to his surname in his draft season in 2021 to acknowledge the influence of the Power original on his life.
It is believed the 19-year-old has been homesick throughout his first campaign at the Roos and still has a strong pull back to Adelaide. After initial talks about extending his contract at North for a further two years, Horne-Francis put off those discussions and has one year remaining on his deal at the Kangaroos.

For Port Adelaide to land Horne-Francis it would need to offer up at least its No.8 pick this year and also the club's future first-round pick.
The Power had some interest in Richmond midfielder Jack Graham but didn't commit to a deal, given they have also been protecting their draft hand this year as Horne-Francis weighs his next move, knowing to get a trade over the line would require a full hand of selections.

Last year, Adelaide made a huge bid for Horne-Francis by offering the Kangaroos three early draft selections for the coveted No.1 pick, while Richmond also put forward a package for the chance to select Horne-Francis.
However, North knocked back both big offers to pick the South Adelaide product with its first ever No.1 choice.

No.1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis is off the mark with a cracking debut goal

The powerful midfielder/forward played 17 games in his debut season and was a NAB AFL Rising Star nominee, but was also in the headlines for his on-ground demeanour at different stages during North's difficult season.
Greater Western Sydney's Tom Boyd left the Giants a year after joining the club as its No.1 pick to join the Western Bulldogs.

I was almost thinking the Hawks might be a shot at the #1 draft pick next year with the amount of players they are losing this year, but North is not making it easy. Guess they have had more practice lately.

Not good for North if he leaves, especially after they rejected some good deals to ensure they drafted him at #1.

For some reason I always thought they had to stay at the club that drafted them for at least 2 seasons , although Boyd only had one season at the Giants (9 games) before going to the Bulldogs , probably been others that have left as well.

It appears correct at 2 years.

CLUBS' wishes to have draft guns' initial standard contracts extended from two to three years are expected to be raised in the AFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement talks with the Players' Association.

Under current AFL rules players who are selected in the national NAB AFL Draft join the competition on standard mandated two-year contracts plus match payments.

However, clubs have long lobbied for those to be longer to assist with retention and also to reduce the payments for second contracts, which have skyrocketed in recent years to be often above $400,000 for a player's third and fourth season in the League.

The AFL has started initial discussions with the AFL Players' Association about the next CBA with plans afoot to restructure it ahead of 2022, with the concept of a longer initial deal for top draftees to be discussed.
