I had noticed a few suggestions were a bit long.

I'll summarise the suggestions to date which do meet the character limit tomorrow night to see which are the most popular, feel free to keep suggesting for now. The name doesn't need to include SCS if you can come up with better.

Happy enough to run with colours from the logo for the badge unless there's strong preference for something else. I'll likely run with one of Bermi's options for patterns, he is the most artistic one here.

I'll look at opening up for player selection starting early next week. I think the easiest way to start will be to determine number of players per team (I assume the structure will end up as mostly players with early doubles plus maybe 1-2 others), then get you to suggest players to fill that structure. I'm sure most of you have looked at in far greater depth than me. I think this will work better than just naming 16 players straight up in getting consensus.

Thanks everyone for your name suggestions to date. The following is a shortlist of any names which were suggested which are compliant with the 18 character limit (including spaces).

Compliant Shortlist:

Salty Couch Sangha
Khan do effort
Khan of worms
Short Caught Sams
Sams Caught Short
Scsy McScsface
Stop Carey Scoring
Some Common Sense
Hit for SiCS

The following suggestions are too long unfortunately, as I quite like a few of these (a lot are over by just one character):

Catch me if you Khan!
Salty Shadab Sangha
Super Cricket Squad
Slips Catch Special
Super Cricket Selectors
Super Tragic Footy Linguists Expert At Supercoaching
Suspended Captain Salutes
Sams Cutting Shorts
Sandpaper Caught Smith
Superb Cricket Stanlake
Super Cracking Shot
Stop Chucking Sangha
Spicy Chicken Sauce
Selector's Conundrum Squadron
Sketchy Crowd Selectors
Spicy Content Suppliers
Selections Crowd Sourced

It seems there is a bit of a theme with a lot of these names, which I don't mind.

I was hoping to get the name squared away in the next few days so we can focus entirely on the starting squad. As such, I'd like to get your input on the final team name by Tuesday night, which will leave around 4 weeks to get the starting squad selected.

Please post your favourite name/s (up to 3) from the compliant shortlist above. The most popular option will be chosen from all votes on Tuesday night.

If you do not like any name from the above shortlist, please suggest your favourite compliant name/s (up to 3). If someone posts a name you like after this post, please feel free to change your vote. You may change your preference as often as you wish if new names come in that you prefer.

It seems there is a fair bit of support for having SCS as part of the team name, so we could go with something a bit more generic representing the site name - if this is your preference, suggest away. Open to any suggestions for this one - something like "SCS Team" does seem a bit bland to me personally, but I'll go with whatever the consensus is - there will be a lot of times my preferences will not be what we end up running with, as it's everyone here's team in the end. Don't let that sway you at all.

Thanks.

Can fit several of the non compliant names in by just having no spaces.

Now that we have a poll available for the team name (Thanks @Connoisseur!), hopefully we can get that sorted in the background with a clear favourite by mid week. Please vote if you haven't already!

The good news is we can now start working on an initial starting team structure. I expect this will get tweaked over coming weeks until the starting team is perfect before the start of Rd 1. I have faith in you. :)

Starting team selection:

As an initial step to picking our starting side, I suggest we look at teams with early byes and doubles and pick the side accordingly. I'm not suggesting we completely bypass players solely playing single games in early rounds, some of these can still be excellent starting selections.

From my understanding, byes and doubles across all rounds are as follows (thanks to @Tamuhawk for this graphic):

Subject to change*
I would guess largely selecting players from the Strikers, Stars and Thunder, with possibly some Scorchers (on the bench in Rd 1) is going to be the popular starting structure, but I may be wrong.

Please state how many players you want in the starting team from each of the 8 clubs. No player names or positions need to be specified at this stage, we'll get to that soon. Filling out the template below will probably be the easiest way for me to track it. We are looking for the total number of selections to be 16, as you probably know.

Starting team selection:
Number of Adelaide Strikers players:
Number of Brisbane Heat players:
Number of Hobart Hurricanes players:
Number of Melbourne Renegades players:
Number of Melbourne Stars players:
Number of Perth Scorchers players:
Number of Sydney Sixers players:
Number of Sydney Thunder players:

===

I'll leave these initial selections open for a while, likely until the weekend, unless we can get a pretty strong consensus prior to that. I am expecting most people will have relatively similar structures in terms of players per team, so this should be the easy part (hopefully).

AS - 2 (trade 1 out in Round 2)
MS - 5 (view to hold 3 in Round 2 & trade 2 out)
ST - 4 (if using Gilkes as WK 1) , could start Wade instead

Don't want to give away my own bench but I would be inclined to use Nielsen @ WK2 , Inglis on the bat bench , maybe David , possibly Sutherland and then see what's left over.

No worries. About 24 hours remaining for the team name poll.

Once this is completed, I can create one for the amount of Strikers to be selected and so on, if you would like?

Maybe polls will work better. It seems polls are getting more responses than just relying on posts here anyway. Obviously they won't work once the tournament starts, with matches held every day, but maybe using them now will actually get us a starting side. Hopefully once the tournament starts, people will be more willing to chip in.

Thanks for the offer, I'll see if we get any more responses by tomorrow night (thanks @Herbie66 for your input), if not, a few 1-2 day polls will probably work, starting with the teams with early doubles should set the structure quite quickly.

Remember everyone that we can always change things before the first game, so don't worry what your responses are now - I'm not asking that we replicate your own side. I mainly want to get a starting side together to open up discussion, and to do that needs people to contribute. I didn't want to just start with the most popular selections from the SC site (if these stats are available - I haven't created the team yet to check), as I wanted this to be chosen by SCS rather than the general public.

Good call.

One thing that did occur to me is that it may be hard for people to nominate how many from each team, because they don’t necessarily think about it that way/some teams may be viewed as reasonably similar in terms of the fixture. One option could be to seek opinions on structure (eg how aggressively do we pursue DGR players? Do we start 10-11, 8-9, 6-7 etc?). It may just be me, but I tend to think of it more in that way than targeting a particular number of players for a given side.

My response for a starting structure:

Starting team selection:
Number of Adelaide Strikers players: 2
Number of Brisbane Heat players: 2
Number of Hobart Hurricanes players: 2
Number of Melbourne Renegades players: 2
Number of Melbourne Stars players: 2
Number of Perth Scorchers players: 2
Number of Sydney Sixers players: 2
Number of Sydney Thunder players: 2

...I haven't had a chance to look at it yet (waiting for a confirmed team name before creating the entry). I really don't want to skew numbers with this above, as it will not score well, but if we don't get more responses, we'll end up with a team like this. Surely you can come up with better? :)

Thanks for the feedback, it's always welcome. From anyone.

This may be a fair call. I was just trying to get to a starting side and your way may be a better way to proceed than mine. What are other's thoughts?

I don't really know how the poll side of thing works from a time perspective, but maybe getting a think tank going in the early part of the round of the popular trade in targets for the next round, then starting a poll for say 24hrs, then trying to accomodate the popular targets from the poll. It won't always work because of cash constraints, but if A is more popular than B, and can be coupled with C over D then unfortunately B misses out. You may be able to accomodate A and B through a boost. Basically shortlisting the popular options for those involved to then tailor trade suggestions around the poll outcome.

Would need a little bit of planning on the length of time a round runs as some may be shorter than others, but you get my drift.

24hrs to short list polling options. 24 hours to poll. 24 hours to come up with trade ideas.

Just an idea anyway.

Been following this along but only my first post now.. but interesting concept!

A thought on team selection, but there are probably a core group of players that most teams will have - do we think it's worth locking them in as a start and then we can build around that core group?

Eg, thinking that most teams would want to have: Sams, R Khan, Zampa, Stoinis etc.. so do we put up a core player list and everyone with x% or higher is in, and then we have a remaining salary cap to spend across the other positions?

Or alternatively, do we do a poll for players that are $150+ and the top 4(?) get selected, then look at a poll to fill specific positions/bench options etc.

Just thinking on how I usually build a BBL starting team.. which is my premium players, bench players, and then spread the remaining salary cap across the spots that are remaining. Then tweak things if there is extra cash left or I need to free up some more dollars.

Might help us get most of the team locked in and then we can work through the remaining spots in whatever works best?
