BBL|12: Combined SCS Team

I can officially reveal that the team we will be running with will be called Some Common Sense, suggested by @Diabolical and as voted by majority. The logo will be logo #1 suggested by @Bermi on page 1.
Just to explain the upcoming team selection process a bit further, once the current poll concludes at midday, there will be two further polls to determine the number of Rd 1 DGR players from each of the Thunder, Strikers and Stars teams. You will want to consider the team balance when voting, and ensure player numbers are sensibly balanced in terms of future rounds, with regards to byes especially, as well as the DGR balance of future rounds. It will probably be best not to choose 9 or 10 players from the one team in these future polls, rather spreading the DGR selections a bit more than this across the two polls. Obviously once we know how many players we will be selecting from each of the first two sides, the number from the third will be determined automatically (based on the current poll).
Once we have the number of players per team sorted for each team on a DGR after these next two polls, I'll open up squad selections, where you will post a team which meets the structure we have decided upon. The players you choose don't have to be (and likely won't be) identical to your own team. If you are worried about the players you choose revealing too much of your own team publicly and want to keep this secret for some reason, I will accept submissions via PM, but would prefer they be posted in the topic for transparency. Odds are nobody has a locked in side yet anyway, so hopefully this will not be an issue.
As we are not specifying the number of players from 5 of the 8 teams, there will be a bit of flexibility in selections, but if we get enough teams posted, I'm sure at least most of the 16 players in the final starting side will be reasonably clear cut.
Hopefully that is all clear, but I am typing this at 1 AM, so maybe not. Let me know if you have any queries.

I am probably going to be the odd one out, but I have voted 8 in the Thunder poll. However, I don’t think our team should have that many, but I think that it should be a starting point.
All things being equal, there is an advantage in maximising DGR players over the season. However, all things aren’t equal, so we need to work on improving the team from the starting point.
To maximise DGR players over the season, we need to start 8 Thunder players and 3 players combined from Stars and Strikers. Those 3 players then get traded out in R2. The remaining 5 players in our teams need to be a combination from any of the remaining teams except the Hurricanes if we want to continue our chance of maximising DGR opportunity.
I think if we can somehow agree on a starting point of a team that maximises DGRs, we can then adjust it using XvY’s to improve it. For example, we can reduce the number of Thunder players by exchanging some of them where an SGR player makes our team stronger … a Stoinis type due to his role and price might make our team stronger. However, his price doesn’t necessarily make him a trade out option for R2, so we need to justify his selection when it means reducing an extra scoring opportunity over the season.

It's a strong argument you make in terms of maximising games played and when last year's winner makes it, it is worth considering.
I haven't voted myself yet, but that is something to think about. I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever maxed out the DGR numbers across a whole season before, and how it turned out, I guess it could work.

I tried it two or three years ago, just tracking the team in Excel as opposed to it being my real team. I just tried to find it as I was posting it on here, but I can’t. There wasn’t much interest so I stopped posting a few rounds in. Maybe it was with @Connoisseur or @Darkie who I kept loosely up to date in the background as they were the only one showing interest? One of them may remember?
From memory I used two trades to maximise trades in the current round and the third to focus on an upcoming round or take advantage of an early loop score. The team finished the equivalent of inside the top 150, but my real team finished in the 80’s so it proved to me that it was more than just maximising DGRs. However, given I usually keep a close eye on benefitting from DGR’s, but allowing myself more flexibility, it was good enough finish to prove to me that a pure focus on DGRs does result in a better than average finish.
I have also had a strong DGR focus in the last couple of years if IPL which has also served me well, but doesn’t quite cut it for the win!

where do you vote Unlike others who are probably a lot better at this game I can't work out how 8 is the optimum number for thunder guys In R3 5 will have to be dumped to maximize Heat players Far better to run with 6 and cull 3 to add to your bank of heat players .Sure it means running with 2 players non DGP but hey I think M Short and Rashid are worth the risk or am I missing something regarding R3 cheers lads NDD

I am a little bit surprised 3 Thunder players is currently leading the poll.
As we are looking at 11 DGR in Rd 1, that suggests 8 from the Strikers and Stars combined, with Stars having a bye and Strikers a single in Rd 2. As Thunder have back to back doubles, I would have expected we start more of them.
Just my thoughts.

I wonder if people are voting in the poll but not following the thread/up to speed with what has already been decided. Could we amend the poll to say "given we are starting 11 DGR players in round 1, how many of those should be form the Thunder?"
I can see this process dying off pretty quick if we have to pick 8 from AS and MS... the round 2 team will be shambles!

Are we giving any thought to which Scorchers we want Round 2 or will we just go in blind ?
If we want all 5 of Agar , Inglis , Marsh , Richardson , Tye for example we probably need to start at least 2 on the bench.
Are we happy to trade Rashid Round 2 or hold ? (determines how we get Scorchers)
Plenty of ways to get them without trading Rashid.
Are we happy to start a Heat on the bench to get "ready" for Round 3.
Are we holding Stoinis & Zampa on the bench Round 2 ?
Do we try the Davies/Larkin/Webster as a E look Round 1 ?
Starting a donut ?
My worry is that once the competition starts , rounds come so thick and fast , we may not get enough answers in between rounds to maybe make the "best" decisions for this time + trying to focus on our teams etc etc
Great concept though , hopefully we get some input from some of the many consistent Top 500 coaches lurking on here and get a insight on how they think.
Until we know the Thunder's replacement for Willey (and cost) it is hard to do anything.
Could easily make a case for starting any/all of Cutting , Gilkes , Green , Hales , McAndrew , Rossouw , Sams , J Sangha at the moment.
Add in the likes of Rashid , Stoinis & Zampa and that's XI already.
Problem with that though is if you want to hold R , S & Z for Round 2 we end up with no one to trade out 😀
So will need to fit in some high priced options like Boult , Clarke , Short etc etc (especially if we know what Scorchers we want Round 2)
Anyway looks like only 13 people have voted , the amount of traffic in the main thread , hopefully we get a lot more.
