Not sure where you saw that but however they've worked out his price it's the wrong way
This year player prices were last years average x 5444. That 'magic number' fluctuates year to year but is always close to that. 7 games played or less they may get a discount on their price of an unspecified amount

He was unused sub in a lot of games but those are DNPs not 0s, game only counts if they get activated, footywire shows unused sub games as 0s which is incorrect, better to look at the supercoach website for averages

8 games played at 49.8 x 5444 = 271,100 rough price for next year

Not sure Atkins is even a starting mid when you put Bowes and Bruhn in there, be a pretty risky pick.

Interesting, thanks. Fan comments I’ve seen are somewhat skeptical that Bowes and/or Bruhn are givens for the best 22, and there’s a spot opened up by Selwood’s departure. Since Atkins moved into the midfield he had a higher CBA % than everyone bar Guthrie and the rucks (slightly obscured by Blicavs playing some mid time late in the season).

If the clubs didn't abuse the previous rule this wouldn't of happened. The sub rule was bought in for concussion only but the clubs decided to abuse it with subbing players for other injuries. If they left it where if a player was subbed out they automatically would miss the following round this farce wouldn't be the sham the rule has become. Sad day for supercoach.

THE AFL has replaced the medical substitute with a tactical substitute for next year, with clubs informed on Monday of the significant rule change.

The League told clubs ahead of the NAB AFL Draft on Monday that its recommendation to the AFL Commission ahead of their December meeting would be to allow four players on the interchange bench as well as one substitution for tactical reasons that can be used for any purpose at any stage of the game.

The AFL Competition Committee approved the change, which has been worked through in recent months.

The League said further details would be shared with clubs in coming weeks, but that the two-year-old rule of players needing a medical reason to be replaced on the ground would no longer be the case in 2023.

The medical substitute was introduced on the eve of the 2021 season after the AFL doubled to 12 days the mandatory time out of the game for a player who suffers a concussion.

At the time, the League's footy boss Steve Hocking said the rule was introduced with player safety in mind.

"Over recent years we have continued to take action to strengthen match-day protocols and amend the Laws of the Game to improve safety," he said.

"We continue to listen and learn and where we can reasonably make our game safer at any stage of the season, we will."

Between 2011-15, the interchange was reduced from four players to three but a substitute player was allowed to replace any other player at any time, for any reason.

For the love of the SuperCoach Gods, just have 5 players on the interchange bench.

Why on earth would they replace a failed setup with one that was widely despised by both players and fans in the past.

Very strange move.

Now clubs are disincentivized from subbing off a player with concussion, which is the opposite of what the AFL were supposedly trying to achieve.

What a mess.

Good timing announcing it just before the draft so nobody notices.

It doesn't seem too different to what was in place this year, except instead of subs being used in around 50-60% of matches, that will be around 100%. Still really bad for SC.

The rule got changed years ago they have access to anyone whose father played 200 SANFL games before they entered the competition

I am hoping he is worth it. Pick 27, Future 2nd and Future 3rd for Pick 18 seems a lot to give up. Holding off on judgement until I see him in action, I have heard some good things about him. Might mean a few position changes with so many defenders?
