Exert from HoneyballBBL

Adam Zampa was unveiled as the Melbourne Stars captain in Glenn Maxwell’s injury enforced absence.

Zampa discussed who may take up Maxwell’s batting role, nominating cheapies Nick Larkin ($62k BAT) and Joe Burns ($62k BAT), and hinted at a role change of Marcus Stoinis ($83k BAT/BWL).

“We’ve got some guys who missed out on some opportunities last year, Larkin, Burns, who were both in and out,” Zampa said. “It’s going to be an opportunity for them, both experienced, to take over his run scoring role.”

On Stoinis, Zampa added: “It’ll be interesting to se what kind o role someone like Stoin plays this year. He’s opened the batting a lot for us. Not too sure what we’re looking to do with someone like him but we’ve got his firepower. We’ve got Hilts (Cartwright) as well, who’s been playing really well for us.”
Love how they talk things up

Burns , Cartwright , Clarke , Larkin , Stoinis , Webster = 6

They better hope they perform

The only other bat on their list at the moment is Kelleway.

I gather they will sign a Injury Replacement Player for Maxwell.

Always float one of their bowlers up the order I guess.

Hinchliffe has opened once , everything else has been 7 , 8 or 9.

7 quicks on their list seems a bit out of balance.

For those who I have made very DGR focused and are looking to go overs on Thunder players, here are some figures to consider from last year's BBL. They are the average if we sorted each team's SC score from highest to lowest for each match. So the highest is the average of all the highest scores for each team in every match and the lowest is the average of the 11th highest scorer for each team on average. I have split it between winning teams and losing teams to get a sense of the split, because on average the winning team takes almost 60% of the scoring pie.

We can actually average the magic 55 number with 9 players from the winning team, however, they need to be the top 9 scorers on average! When it comes to the losing team, we can't have more than 5 players to score similarly on average per player.

I’ve heard a few people say “player X is too much to have on the bench” and that’s generally you’re 90-100k guys like Gilkes, NCN, Hardie etc. isn’t it a good idea to have a solid bat and bowl 6 in case of emergency and also to loop? I’d be happy enough with like an NCN as my 6th bowling option that I can bring on whenever needed, he’ll maybe even field some weeks

Personally I want a squad of 14 players that I’m happy to play, usually looping at bat 6 and bowl 6. One nuff and one cheapie guy I’d play in a pinch. Especially with byes, prefer to hold a guy instead of being forced to sell.

If you split the salary cap by sixteen, it averages out at 125k per player, if you start a 42k nuff, it rises to 130k. Overall squad depth will be important imo

He was a pretty handy all rounder at his peak, just not sure how much we can be expecting from a 36 year old who really hasnt played much short form cricket at all of late.
Thanks ... what about this Rossouw fellow ..

My new rule this year is to have no new OS Bat only players on field ... that gives Hales an exception ..

Not great in last year's BBL, very good since then though including in World Cup in Australia and recent T10. For the price a good buy for the double DGR.
Unless my records are wrong he didn't play last year ... but point taken ...

Edit: it was the year before ...

24 ave with scores of: 17, 0, 84, 37, 23, 3, 6 ...

- might loophole him ...

As much as I like de Grandhomme generally, I’m not sure he’s a great pick at his price:

He has taken 4 wickets in total in his last 11 series. That’s 60 matches.

He has only averaged more than 22 runs once in his last six series.

He predominantly comes in at number 4 to 6.

His last T20 match was in January 2021.

I read that as Stoinis is likely to open.

Stoin and Zampa are very close - if Zampa gets to pick the order (?) I reckon Stoinis will bat where he wants to bat.

Long way out ... lol .. like less than a week ...

Please pull this draft team apart ...

- I have thick skin so go as as hard as you like ...
- Originally had Philippe and Billings in it but have reluctantly succumbed ...

D Hussey on Boult. Doesn’t sound that promising re his death overs opportunities to me:

"A lot of the bowling is going to be revolving around Trent and what he can bring to the table. He'll definitely take the new ball because he's probably one of the best swing bowlers going around. Hopefully, he swings it up front, takes few early wickets and then bowls in the middle and maybe one at the end.

"But not only is he going to be good on the field, he's also going to help the young Luke Wood, our young Cam McClure out who can learn from his experience and fast track their development. It's not just the on field why we signed Trent Boult, it's also off field as well.

"If you get to know Trent really well, he's very approachable and very giving with his time and knowledge, so I think both Sam (Elliott), Cam (McClure) and Liam Hatcher, they'll take a lot from just working and seeing Trent go about his business."

As far as practice matches go between two different clubs, the only one scheduled so far is Stars v Renegades on Friday at 2pm.

Confirmed intraclub practice matches for Scorchers, Heat and Strikers.

TBA for the Hurricanes, Sixers and Thunder. Surely Sixers v Thunder can get something organised though!
