Could someone explain briefly the benefits or batting first or bowling first (in terms of SuperCoach points)…
Batting first (generally less points for batters? Cos they have to choose their own tempo)
Bowling second means lots of wickets for death bowlers who can pick off hitters trying to slog to get the runs?
This is very much just my sense and not backed by numbers specifically, but:
* Opening bats don't matter too much, they get the same opportunity either way. But any that aren't quite so explosive are probably better batting first for exactly that reason, they can just go at their pace and bat through.
* The further down the batting order you go the more you want to bat first - more likely to get opportunity
* Death bowlers are better bowling first, IMO - the 20th over of the first innings is the most likely to get wickets historically, and a death bowler in a tight chase will tend to bowl defensively (or in a not-so-tight chase, may not get all their overs at all)
* I prefer spinners bowling second - I think they then become the obvious target in a run chase and it opens up opportunities
For specific players you can use Big Bash Board to check their splits between the first and second innings if you're interested!
