Hi all,

After the success of the 2022 season with 10 participants seeing out the finish, I would like to extend out the invitation for new and old players to return for another edition of this competition.

A little bit of background. Basically I wanted to introduce a new format for a year round darts competition. There are currently competitions run on the PDC site that are tailored specific to individual events, but nothing that is season long as far as I know. Given last year was a new competition much was learnt about team sizes, scoring, bonus points etc so all of these things have either slightly been tweaked throughout last year if they weren't to have a major impact on an already underway competition, or thrown open to discussion amongst the existing participants to shape the way the competition is presented for 2023.

A tweaked scoring system will be introduced. The plan is to run similarly to other competitions around the site which add all the points up for an individual round and then grade them with a highest number (depending on participant numbers) for most points down to 1 for least. This should lead to consistency winning out in the end.

Here is the intended calendar for 2023



Info for the opening tournament will be provided in the days leading up to the start. In addition to the thread, there is a PM running in the background, and we are operating off google form entry which is posted in the PM. The fairest method I have come up with is that I post my team first in the thread, and then post up the google form in the PM for your entry.

I will again be putting up the prizes of 3 entries into 2024 SC leagues. $100, $50 and $20 to the 3 podium placed teams.

So I'm taking expressions of interest all the way through to the start of the competition which begins on Saturday morning of January 28th. It can become a bit fiddly with late stragglers, but in the event of this occurring I will try to my best to reach a fair resolution to their introduction.

If I've missed anything I'm sure it will be brought to my attention so expect there may be a follow up post. Other than that I hope to see some new faces in 2023 to improve our numbers. Any questions feel free to post in thread or reach out via a PM.

I can confirm my participation in this great event. So no prize money in 2023, but 2024 does. 😉

Good to have you back. The idea is to not have a repeat on the scoreboard that we had last year, so hopefully the proposed changes work for the better.

The PM and google forms should keep everyone more easily informed of what's going on. As you are active on site I don't think you will miss anything this year.

Maybe if we forget, we can be given the lowest seeds in each of the categories.

For example, If we need to pick 2 (1-8 seed), 2 (9-16), 4 (17-32) from each "group", we get 7 & 8, 15 & 16 and 29, 30, 31 & 32 if we forget.

Thats a very valid idea.

The only problem I see, is what if that runs out as more points than someone selecting a side?

Is it fairer to just say you finish par with the lowest score and rejoin in?

I just don't want to penalise active participants.

Lowest score was fine I think. I still finished mid table even with that in place a few times.

Absolute worst case scenario in your proposed idea is that all the bottom seeds become the nuts, and instead of just beating 1,2 or 3 sides, it beats the field. This means someone is rewarded significantly because they didn't put a team in.

I think par with the lowest is the fairest way.

Good to hear mate. The old firm is coming back together. A new year brings new opportunity.

I'm really looking forward to it this year. This first event field just feels a lot deeper than this time last year. Such has been the improvement in players in the past 12 months. The top level form of Smith and MvG has gone up, but so too have other players inside the top 24.

EVENT 1 - Masters

The first event starts Saturday morning. Entries need to be in prior to 6am, but those that played last year are well accustomed to adhering to this. If there's anyone new that wants to have a crack on a year long event then please make known and I will add you to the PM. Don't hesitate on lack of knowledge, you will pick it up pretty quick, and the Premier League format ensures you will gain some experience before the large field tournaments start. I keep the Google form behind closed doors so as to not have any unnecessary issues.

Here's all the info for the Masters. This year there is a greater emphasis on the bonus points on offer at each tournament (10 in this instance) being a greater factor when selecting an initial team. If you can hold the tournament winner from your first team until your last then these are a little cherry on top that will be added to your final score.

Trading periods take place twice this weekend. The team will need to be picked again prior to Saturday evenings 2nd round matches taking place, and then again prior to Sunday evenings QF matches taking place all the way through to the final.

A couple of final things on team selection. Hedging matches can be a thing if you just want to get someone through to the next round, or to target against the next player in the draw. It's obviously not the optimal strategy, but it's a safe strategy at times.
In this first team pick, whilst we have to select our blue selections from the off due to bonus, they don't enter until Saturday evening's matches, so Captain and VC is best served on day 1 being from the yellow and green groups. From day to day we can adjust captains.
