Saw an interview with Sam Mitchell where he was asked about Day playing midfield. He may have been being coy but I got the feeling it was just a bit of an experiment. Still worth keeping an eye on. The Hawks midfield is a blank canvas this season.
They need Day in there for mine at least as a burst, too many of the same type of mid at the Hawks, someone with pace who is a great ball user would be a good balance.

Yes read the reports, Ward could be a POD as a different option to Hopper.

Davey has the break glass in case of emergency feel about him. I haven't seen him doing anything other than the small fwd role? Is there any mid time on the cards?
SNAPSHOT:“ An exciting midfielder/forward who has exciting traits which set him apart from other players in the draft pool.”

When Alwyn Davey’s twin brother Jayden went down with his second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) the dream of playing with his brother at Oakleigh was dashed but the likelihood it can happen at another club seems high with both Alwyn and Jayden eligible under the father-son rule for Essendon.

Despite Jayden being done for the year early, Alwyn got his skates on making an early impression playing mostly in the midfield in a stacked Oakleigh midfield brigade and he would continue to improve as the games went on and was rewarded with selection for the AFL Academy who played Collingwood’s VFL side. Alwyn would go on to play every game for Vic Metro with his best game coming against Western Australia with 19 disposals, five inside 50s and two goals, and his best game for Oakleigh would come against eventual premiers Sandringham in Round 16 with a 26-disposal game.

This is interesting - has me re-thinking Tom Green. Could be good news for Josh Kelly though and also Finn Callaghan. Will need to watch pre-season pretty closely. This I guess is pretty predictable with the change in coach and how other teams like Collingwood showed how successful the style can be.

Starting attacking six for Essendon in probables v possibles scratch match on currently :-

Stringer/Weideman/Davey/Wright/Menzies/McDonald-Tipungwuti.

2 fwd rookies to keep any eye on ;)
Think they are a good chance to play, scoring is going to be the problem, raw small forwards in a rubbish side screams pass to me.

Davey would be more a link man between defence and forwards because he has an "elite" kick, which most of essendons midfield do not have.

Menzies is a high pressure small forward. Can't see that been a lucrative role
Daveys endurance base is pretty average though, his ability to run out 4 quarters at AFL level is very up in the air, would not shock me if hes often the sub or subbed out.

I've been thinking about this but I think Cogs will be okay. His outside game will help him much more, I just worry with Green that we saw him tail off significantly last season as the year went on, It's another pre-season under his belt but it seems the new game plan will test him early in terms of covering the ground. Obviously the forward status helps him, if fit he'll be top 6 for sure and likely top 3.
