I'm possibly looking at the following side after this round:

D: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, ZWilliams, BSmith, Duursma (Logue, Hinge)
M: Cripps, Fyfe, JKelly, Neale, Oliver, Macrae, Brouch, Rocky (DClarke, Hately, Atley)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
F: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, TKelly, Marshall, Cameron/Boak (Gardner, Setterfield/Parker)

Few XYs I'm still weighing up but leaning towards running with Duursma/Logue at D6 til I can get Whitfield. Can loophole pretty often using Hinge. May consider Duursma to Naish as well to build bank til I can go Naish/Logue to Whitfield.

Bit of an interesting thought process where I'm preferring to hold a few rookies rather than buy into a defensive premium right at this moment. I'm not super sold on the Ryan, Stewart types at $500k+ and Hurn still isn't locked in to return this round. Might consider Hurn in a few weeks however if he's still looking okay after his hamstring injury - I'm sure we wouldn't have been starting a 31 yr defender with a hammy concern in the preseason, so a bit of buyer beware for me at the moment. Had hoped Blakely would be moved into the mids but it seems a bit more uncertain now after four games. I may jump on Blakely for Duursma/BSmith if he's named in the mids this round!

The team I’m aiming for currently with the trades I’ve done this week (italics are later trades to be made, bolded are the new ins)

Defenders: Hurn, Lloyd, Laird, Stewart, Whitfield, Hore (Naish, Logue)
Mid: Cripps, Neale, Oliver, Cunnington, Fyfe, Gaff, Macrae, Sloane (D.Clarke, Bewley, Walsh)
Ruck: Grundy, Gawn (rookie)
Forwards. Dunkley, Boak, Dangerfield, Hawkins, T.Kelly, Rozee (Young, Gardner)

So you all understand context, these trades need to happen for this to be a possibility:

Round 15
Drew > Logue (Gardner or Rozee to forwards)
Butters > Sloane

Round 17 (waiting a round to see squeeze as much out of ROB and see if Whitfield comes down in price)
ROB > Nuffie ruck (ideally Fort finds his way into the team somehow and on the bubble)
Setterfield > Whitfield (hopefully has come down a little in price by then. The other of Rozee/Gardner to forwards)

I then potentially use one trade to upgrade Rozee to a keeper with the rest of my leftover cash from ROB downgrade in week 18 to leave me with the grand total of 1 trade for 5-6 rounds. What could possibly go wrong?

This has already changed in the space of a day. Rocky to Treloar and will have to suck up BSmith D6, Brouch M8, Cameron F6.

D: Lloyd, Laird, Sicily, ZWilliams, BSmith, Duursma (to become Whitfield) (Logue/Naish, Hinge)
M: Cripps, Fyfe, JKelly, Neale, Oliver, Macrae, Treloar, Brouch (DClarke, Hately, Atley)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
F: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, TKelly, Marshall, Cameron (Gardner, Setterfield/Parker)

Players yet to be acquired in italics:

D: Williams, Laird, Sicily, Andrews, Hore, Weller
M: Neale, Jelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Macrae, Zerrett, Oliver, MCrouchy
R: Gawn, Grundy
F: Boak, Telly, Danger, Heeney, Ziebs, Old Man Mundy

Hore might probably become Hurn when he bottoms out... should have 7 trades left when the above team is achieved.

Has anyone managed in the past to get the top averaging players in every position?

I'm normally making significant compromises in 5-6 players across the lines but this season seems to be setting up nicely for me to get really close to the 'perfect' team.

At this stage the trades i need to make to reach the goal are

Hore - Hurn
Smith - Whitfield.
(This would leave my backline missing houli, stewert and zwilliams - I'd say its a coin toss that Laird and Sicily overtake these players and get into the top 6 by seasons end)

Butters to JKelly
(I also have Oliver who if he finishes strong may go top 8. Brayshaw is the issue and he could be a luxury upgrade to Zerret)

Heeney and Billings are my forward downfalls.

I have 9 trades and $150k left. It's looking like i may only be missing the 'perfect' team by a couple of points in average over 2 or 3 positions.

How close is everyone else?

Completed team once I do two trades this week:

DEF: Lloyd, Hurn, Laird, Z Williams, Andrews, B Smith (Logue, Naish)

MID: Neale, Cripps, Macrae, Fyfe, Oliver, Coniglio, M Crouch, Rockliff (Clarke, Baker, Answerth)

RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Bines)

FWD: Boak, Dangerfield, T Kelly, Cameron, Heeney, Worpel (Parker, Gardner)

Reasonably happy with my team but wish I was able to get Whitfield back, J Kelly, Daniel and Dunkley.

Team after trades this week:
Lloyd, Hurn, Laird, Williams, Ryan, Logue (Duursma, Answerth)
Neale, Cripps, Kelly, Fyfe, Macrae, Gaff, Taranto, Oliver (Bewley, Clarke, Scott)
Gawn, Grundy (Bines)
Danger, Kelly, Heeney, Marshall, Dunkley, Daniel (Gardner, Young)

4 trades left. Happy with that, I'm going to try and get a D6 to push Logue to D7, but other than that I'm very happy with my team. My midfield has been transformed from the crap it initially was...

Very strong side well done. If you can grab Sicily cheap for Duursma, you’ll be hard to beat on the run home

Hey blokes..Ist post on this forum.

Had a bit of a look around and seems like a cool place to hang out, now where's the booze? and I'll need a glass tile:cool:

I know it's not kosha to ask for advice for a 1st poster, but I'm gonna anyway.

This is my 'finished' team, 1st year at this game, 2nd year playing Fantasy.....Anywhoo, I'm missing some of the big dogs but only have 4 trades left so I'm not sure I can do much about it....any thoughts about strategy over the run home would be appreciated. sj sc 15.GIF

I would hold onto those 4 trades for any long term injuries and absolutely loop hole the hell out of all the bench players where applicable.
Come finals if you dont get no long term injuries I would sideways an under performing player to someone who's up and about.
Done well achieving that team, only negative is as you said, missed alot of big guns in each position, but you shouldn't lose too much ground with what you have. If you loop those bench players well you can make that up.

Hey mate, welcome aboard. Great looking team. What you do from here depends on what you want - a good overall ranking, shooting for a great overall ranking but willing to risk falling off the cliff, or leagues. Also can I ask what your trades were this week?

Don't know whether having Worpel at M9 is overkill?

Lloyd, Ryan, Laird, Williams, Andrews, Hore (Logue, Burgess)

Fyfe, Neale, Cripps, Macrae, Oliver, Sloane, Bont, Mouch (Bewley, Baker, Stocker)

Gawn, Grundy (Fort)

Danger, TK, Dunkley, Daniel, Heeney, Cameron (Setterfield, Gardner)

Pens down with only a handful of trades and 13k in the bank. Pretty happy with how it’s all come together. Would love to have Boak but what can you do?

Andrews D5, Hore/Logue D6 and Cameron F6 easily my most important players for the run home.
