Umps seem to be favouring the Blues early on. Doubtful free paid for running too far against the Lions (my opinion), then not at the other end which scored a goal (running about 40m and bouncing it once). Hopefully it doesn't continue and we get a fairly umpired match.

They rule it by steps rather than by metres. I admittedly didn't check the Cottrell one but Berry took 17 steps.

(I haven't read the Laws in a while and I suspect they do say metres, but steps are easier for an umpire to judge.)

How on earth was this play on?

I watched it live. His knees are clearly bent and back was arched bracing for the tackle which when it came, was high.

Sometimes the umps call this one, sometimes they don't because he somewhat ducked into it. 50/50 call? Maybe 70/30

The two best teams this season are playing off in the GF.

Fitting that the two best teams in the back half of the season made prelims too. Both Blues and Giants fans should be very proud.
