Bruno lost over a million.
And he'll likely lose another million. Luckily I'm actually Bill Gates, so what's a $3m loss?

To think I actually had Maddison, but then thought it better to go for the home player in Bruno.
Bowen was another I had considered. Bowen 32, Maddison 23, Bruno 4, over the last two weeks.
That's the difference between being 5th and 1st.

Diaz not starting hurt, as Pool were up first. Those that had him jumped off to Saka, Mbeumo or Solanke, all of who did well.

Then ESR not starting meant that peeps could jump off him onto Maddison.

If Bruno was suspended, I'd have started Young and been 4 pts better off.
Damn you Bruno. Can't even get a proper straight red and miss 3 weeks for me.

Looks like these will be my trades for next week, barring injuries.

Henderson underperforming and a BE of 12.
I consider myself fortunate to be making money on him and cashing out at a fair price to get a replacement.
Hermansen with a great run of 3 games, and a BE of -5.
It's a decision based on fixtures with the possibility to make cash. Can't ask for more.

Dibling got me 20 pts for 2 weeks, and made $2.6m to support my Bruno habit. Thank you for your service.
Foden with a BE of 17, but has WOL, the worst DEF who have conceded 5 & 6.
I considered Buonanotte, but don't really need the cash.
For me now, it's all about assembling the DT and just waiting patiently.

Salah has a BE of 24, and a poor record vs CHE and ARS, his next two opponents.
Saka on the other hand, has a BE of -2, and great recent records against BOU and LIV.
I also need someone to VC who plays before Haaland, and Salah plays later.
Havertz is an option, but his good scores have been at home, so not too confident on him.

Looking at a 4-3-3 this week. How fortunate my DEF have Soton, WOL & IPS.

Young plays early. If he fails, I can take Mosquera off and bring in Foden.
That is assuming Saka also fails, and I can straight up captain Haaland.

Lots of options, but a Haaland hattie seems on the cards again, against that poor WOL DEF.

After this, I still have 3 boosts left and 30 trades. Feels like a luxury, given I'm likely looking at another 5 trades to get my DT.
Maybe Salah in for Watkins later, when fixtures change.
Maybe KDB / Maddison / Bowen for Baleba, when he's maxed out cash.
Maybe Porro for Justin, and Gabriel / Trippier for Young when they've maxed out.
Maybe Raya or Alisson for Hermansen when he's maxed out.

Hey I've been seeing people talking about 'loop'? Benching etc. Can someone explain? Thankyou
If you start and captain a non-playing player, who plays late, you can put the vice captaincy on a good player playing early.
If they do well, you leave it like that, and the auto-sub will make that player captain.
If they do poorly, you can then put the captaincy on another good player, hence having two chances of a good captaincy score.

The auto-sub usually brings on the worst scorer from your bench, so many use the GK spot to 'loop' the captaincy.
Also, if your benched GK goes minus, they don't come on, so you're protected from a negative score.

Great team, and great start to the year. First time playing this format, is 30 trades enough given we are not even 20% through the season? Or is it all about spamming trades for team value and then riding out the back half of the year?

Thanks.

Usually, going into GW9 with 30 trades and 3 boosts left is a good position to be in.
Yep, getting team value is a high priority at the beginning. I think $150m usually does the trick.
Of course pts are also needed, so if you can have a high rank and lots of trades left, you're doing quite well.

I think trying to get 12 big guns is what you want. 11 on field and 1 backup for short term injuries.
Any long term injuries will likely require a trade out, but if you have lots of cash, it can be a straight swap.
There are times when you can go without a trade for weeks, simply using the bench to rotate players with the best fixtures.

Having 10 trades in the last half of the season usually is enough, if you have 14-15 big guns to rotate.
Some want more trades, for double game weeks and byes.
But with changes to fixtures this season, there will be less double game weeks and byes.

Always good to have extra trades. Just don't use them because you have to. Your gift can become your curse.

30 trades and 3 boosts definitely sounds like a great position to be in. It will be interesting to see how this season compares to last season given there will be less double game weeks and byes. Personally, from now on im going to try and be a bit more judicious with my trades given i didnt leave nearly enough in the bank last season. That said, being more aggressive may pay off this season given fixtures.

Ive hit the $150M barrier with team value so im in a good position with regards to that. I seem to keep recycling defenders and that 3rd forward spot for cash generation which has worked so far but very soon ill need to settle on those combinations!

I think im maybe 10 trades away from what i consider to be my 'perfect on-field' team. I have probably 5 players to upgrade - 1 GK, 2 defenders, 1 mid, 1 forward to get to a really strong 11. Not all of those upgrades will require 2 trades so i might be able to get a really strong 12 with 10 used trades. That will see me with just over 15 trades remaining for the rest of the season. That 'rest of the season' could be 20-25 rounds

My locked in players then would be

Konate
Palmer, Havertz, Maddison, Bowen
Haaland, Saka

Then i have Watkins who may well stay in my team for the long haul too but im counting him as a possible trade out

My pure cash cows then are

R.Lewis, Milenkovic, THB
M.Fernandes

That leaves

Henderson (GK) & Justin as probably my last two to upgrade

Konate > Collins & Jackson > Saka

Talked myself into doing another trade that will increase cash generation. Collins has a very favourable run fixture wise and Konate has maxxed out. The incentive of Konate > Collins is that i can keep Soucek and can still grab Saka. Instead of potentially hurting my cash generation with trading Soucek to someone under 5M (there dont seem to be any attractive options) to afford Saka ive been able to keep Soucek who will make more cash and increase my depth.

I may be a bit optimistic about Collins' potential given Brentford's defence has been really poor so far but with the fixtures coming up i think he is a good option for a cash grab.

This team leaves 2.65M in the bank.

In the next 4 rounds im going to target the defenders i want to finish my side with. Looking at Pedro Porro in round 9, TAA in round 10 & Gabriel in round 12.

Then i can look at filling my last midfield spot and improving my goal keeper.

some good posts about how to start building the team to full premium

thought I had better look at my own

Team Value : 126,590,000.00

Have some money in the Bank

Sels - will need to be upgraded

TAA - keep
Justin - sideways trade at the right time
Saliba - hasn't delivered what I was hoping for (yet)

Havertz - keep
Maddison - keep

Buonanotte - bringing in for the next round, probably dreaming if I think I can eventually get him to Palmer
Barnes - keep or trade to Bruno/Foden

Haaland - keep
Solanke - will need to be upgraded
Calvert-Lewin - refer to Saliba

Bench

Whiteman is my donut

Harwood-Bellis - making some ok cash
van den Berg - needs a move on to make some ok cash

Partey - hasn't delivered what I was hoping for (yet)

2 downgrades + Bank to complete the jigsaw
