Welcome to the fourth annual running of the Midprice Madness competition.

Previous winners are @wogitalia (2021 champion), @Couch Coach (2022 champion) and @Wheedus (2023 champion). Can one of these repeat, or will be adding a fourth name to that list in 2024?

Rules are identical to last year, with all entries to be made via a Google Form. The entry form can be found below:

https://forms.gle/akxS2zN7SF4WcXeU8

I will be accepting your most recent entry only as your submission in the competition, so if you need to make any changes, just resubmit. The form should email you a copy of your selections after submission, and you will not be able to submit a partial team. I won't be accepting any changes or selections via PM this year, no matter how minor a change it may be, as it is very difficult for me to keep track of these changes.

Rules:
  • Open to anyone with no cap on the number of entries - one team per person.
  • All players in your team must be players priced between $200,000 and $450,000 (inclusive).
  • You must select at least one player from each of the 18 teams in the league and may not select more than two players from any team. There is no trading, the players you choose at the start of the season you will have in your team all year, so pick wisely. You don't get replacements for injuries / omitted players.
  • The usual $10,000,000 budget and 8/11/3/8 structure applies to your team. Any team found to have exceeded this cap amount once the season commences will have players removed, starting with the highest priced players until the team drops below this amount (I will review teams prior to the season starting and advise of errors, this rule will only apply to any last minute entries I don't get to review in time - I have never had to enforce it yet).
  • All entries to be sent via the Google Forms link above. If you want to make a change to your team before the deadline, your latest entry will be the one entered in the competition.
  • If your team has any errors, it will not be entered into the competition. I will review all entries in the week or so before the start of Round 1, but not earlier. Any errors identified in entries at this time, I'll notify the relevant user via PM.
Scoring:
  • Scoring will be similar to the Lock and Load competition that has traditionally been run by @Beijing_Sting. Your best 16 scoring players (using SC scoring) will count every round, with the best score doubled as a captain score automatically - no need to set emergencies and captains each week. One you have entered your team, that's all you need to do for the season.
  • The competition will run from Round 1 to Round 24 only. I'll post regular updates of how all teams are going after each round. Scores will be cumulative throughout the season, and the aim is to be the top scorer for the season, but top scoring in any round is also a very good achievement. There were 59 entrants last season, so you'll likely have a lot of competition to beat!
  • Round 0 / Opening Round / whatever you want to call it doesn't exist. For this competition anyway.
I recommend selecting your team outside of the Google Form, either via SC, Excel, pen and paper - or whatever method works best for you, before picking the selections on the form itself. The form is only designed for team submission, as it will not provide details of total team value etc.

If there's any questions, please let me know. It's surprisingly challenging to put together your side, despite seeming very straight forward, which I think is part of the appeal. There is a bit over 6 weeks to tweak your team and put the winning team together, but I recommend not leaving it to the last minute.

Good luck!

Is there a good reason you couldn’t include opening round with say maybe best 6 or 8? We will have time to consider our teams given the main game doesn’t start until the following week. Furthermore there will be 1 week of exposed form for 8 teams if we start round 1 which will significantly influence selections I reckon.

I found last year it's an absolute pain to add additional rounds into my spreadsheet, especially with different rules to usual, for what is hopefully a one time extra "round". This compromised start better not be back in 2025...

I don't think the extra game for 8 clubs will influence things too much. It might reveal a few role changes, but practice matches do the same every year. Very easy to get sucked into someone from that round who has a one off good game - it works both ways.

I'll think about it. I may run a separate one round comp for the 4 Rd 0 matches if there is interest, which wouldn't affect the main comp, shouldn't be too difficult to set that up, even if I have to score it manually.

Can I ask if anyone has a doc/spreadsheet to share that only contains the players in this price bracket?
Like I know we can filter it on the SC website by $ anyway, but would make it alot easier to manage I think.

Much appreciated if anyone can!

Edit: Sorry, sorted by team/position ideally, not like the list that was shared above in the form. Cheers.

This is the file I posted in another thread a while back filtered for the relevant players. Note it is a tab limited text file and should open in Excel without too much trouble.

Note that more players could be added in the price bracket before season start.

Have you got this listing for all players?

Hi I.H, what was that program we had last year where it would add the prices up as you were entering names?
I remember that made it quite easy to select a team, I spent an hour today pushing buttons on a calculator lol

I don't recall anything from last year but I have put together a file for my own purposes that may suit your (and others) need. Note however that you will need an up to date version of Excel to use it because it utilises some of the recently added excel functions.

Hopefully reasonably intuitive on how to use it. The only thing that is not immediately obvious is that if you select a cell with a club in it in column O and press F9 (calc) you will1 see a filtered list of players from that club.

Last year @KLo30 put together a spreadsheet for this which worked quite well. I don't know how easy that would be to update with this year's list of players. I unfortunately use a cheap spreadsheet program which came with my personal laptop rather than Excel which uses different formulas, so it's not something I can update for everyone.

Hopefully @Beg2Differ's version works for you.

Works a treat mate, the only tweak required while using it is to change the players positions based on your selections.
When selecting a MID/FWD player in the forward line change the column C and D around as the formulas work against column C and this will give you the correct positional count.
I've thrown away my pen and paper now! lol

Position count should work off column F. Fixed in this version.

Question @KLo30:
How are the bye cells generated?

I am selecting rucks with say Ned Reeves from hawthorn.
The bye is coming up as 14 but it should be round 15?

The same is happening for other players also
