Analysis 2024: Player's Top Averages by Position - Round 15 Update

I'm keeping a record of the top averaging players by position leading up to the main MBRs so thought I would post the results here for all to view.

I find this type of information (trend) useful when assessing the viability of my upgrade targets; are they at their peak price, do they have any value left, are they in the middle of a hot streak, etc.

I'll provide updated results table at the appropriate intervals.

Please feel free to add your own insights and views on players to help others make a more informed decision.

Round 6 Update

Key Observations: R3 to R6
  • Averages have come down across the ranges, 36 players averaging 110+ at R3 to 24 players at the conclusion of R6 (33% drop)
  • Number of 120+ averages have reduced from 20 to 10, a reminder of how difficult it is to sustain such a benchmark
DEFENDERS
  • Range of [112-141] at R3 to [107-128], spread reduced by 8
  • Gone from 10 to 5 players currently with a 110+ average
  • Previous top 3 are now 1st, 6th & 2nd respectively
  • Whitfield, Clark, Stewart & McGrath have been replaced by Houston, Yeo, Daicos & Blakey
MIDFIELDERS
  • Range of [121-145] at R3 to [113-148], spread increased by 11 despite the -8 drop in the lower range (caused by the 2-gamer Walsh)
  • Gone from 11 to 6 players currently with a 120+ average
  • Previous top 4 are now 4th, 9th, 2nd & 5th respectively
  • Miller, Setterfield & Drew have been replaced by Walsh, Neale & Treloar
RUCKS
  • Range of [104-131] at R3 to [109-132], spread reduced by 4
  • Grundy joins the 110+ club with Xerri on the cusp
  • Previous top 2 are now 1st & 3rd respectively
  • Marshall have been replaced by Xerri
FORWARDS
  • Range of [103-139] at R3 to [95-137], spread increased by 6 despite the -8 drop in the lower range (Heeney the major driver)
  • Gone from 6 to 2 players currently with a 110+ average
  • Previous top 3 are now 1st, 4th & 5th respectively
  • King & Powell have been replaced by Bolton & Curnow

Round 9 Update

Key Observations: R6 to R9
  • Players averaging 110+ have further reduced from 24 to 21
  • Number of 120+ averages dropped by 1. Serong, Ryan & Gawn are the only players with a 130+ average
DEFENDERS
  • Range of [107-128] at R6 to [104-131], spread increased by 6
  • Ryan & Daicos starting to gap the rest as clear #1 and #2
  • Previous top 3 are now 1st, 3rd & 5th respectively
  • Martin has replaced Blakey
MIDFIELDERS
  • Range of [113-148] at R6 to [114-132], spread decreased by 17
  • Previous top 4 are now 3rd, 6th, 2nd & 1st respectively
  • Miller & Dunkley have replaced Neale & Green
RUCKS
  • Range of [109-132] at R6 to [108-131], no change in spread
  • Gawn the clear #1 with the rest playing musical chairs
FORWARDS
  • Range of [95-137] at R6 to [93-130], spread decreased by 5, lower range continues to drop
  • Heeney, Flanders & Zorko have separated themselves as the clear top 3
  • Rankine & Waterman have replaced Hogan & Bolton

Round 12 Update

Key Observations: R9 to R12
  • Players averaging 110+ have remained at 21
  • Number of 120+ averages reduced from 9 to 8
  • Ridley the sole remaining player with a 130+ average (from only 2 games)
DEFENDERS
  • Range of [104-131] at R9 to [106-137], spread increased by 4 (partly due to the appearance of Ridley at the top)
  • Ryan & Daicos continues their presence at the top with Clark averaging a whopping 137 for the period
  • Previous top 3 have all shifted a place down respectively due to Ridley ascension to #1
  • Ridley & Clark have replaced Martin & Vlastuin
MIDFIELDERS
  • Range of [114-132] at R9 to [113-125], spread further decreased by 6
  • Previous top 4 are now 2nd, 3rd, 8th & 6th respectively
  • Neale & Warner have replaced Miller & Steele
RUCKS
  • Range of [108-131] at R9 to [108-130], spread stabilising
  • Gawn continues to be the clear #1 with the rest still playing musical chairs
FORWARDS
  • Range of [93-130] at R9 to [94-126], spread further decreased by 5
  • Heeney, Flanders & Zorko are the clear top 3
  • Moore has replaced Curnow

Key Observations: R12 to R15
  • Players averaging 110+ have increased from 21 to 23
  • Number of 120+ averages further reduced from 8 to 6
  • Gawn holds the highest season average at 128.9
DEFENDERS
  • Range of [106-137] at R12 to [106-124], spread reduced by 13 as we've seen a decline at the top
  • Sinclair, Houston & Yeo with 141, 138 & 133 average respectively during the period
  • Ridley dropped from 1st to 3rd whilst Ryan & Daicos have both climbed a spot within the top 3
  • Sinclair have replaced Clark
MIDFIELDERS
  • Range of [113-125] at R12 to [112-126], minimal movements in the spread and range
  • Previous top 2 held their spots whilst 3rd & 4th dropped a spot
  • Gulden have replaced his teammate in Warner
RUCKS
  • Range of [108-130] at R12 to [110-129], spread decreased by 3
  • Gawn continues to be the clear #1 with Grundy showing signs of separation to the rest
FORWARDS
  • Range of [94-126] at R9 to [91-125], spread increased by 2
  • Heeney, Flanders & Zorko continues to be the clear top 3
  • Curnow has replaced with partner in crime in McKay
