First question. Do you start a $700k Gawn?
Obviously very very early days but I'm probably inclined to say no. Overall I'd say it ended up being the wrong move paying up for guys like Bont, Daicos and English who dropped big cash early.

Teams that got off to a flyer didn't start those guys and hit a lot of value picks instead like Yeo, Gawn, Heeney and Flanders who were pretty popular whilst there were other good ones like Clark, Steele, Xerri and Grundy who eventually come good. They were able to spend cash elsewhere and get rookies off field faster than those that payed up.

Every year is different though so it's probably just finding a mix of guys that can put up reliable captain scores and finding those value picks that can get you off to a good start.

Can start to make a list already of guys that'll be heavily underpriced, I'd imagine Oliver, Petracca, English, Sicily and Rozee will be pretty popular to start off with as well as Mills, Smith and Coleman who should be heavily discounted.

I’m not too sure what I’ll do with Gawn. Personally, I didn’t even consider starting English this season. Not a fan of starting guys over 700k. A big part of the reason I faded English was due to the lack of history scoring at a high level. Gawn on the other hand has years and years of uber premium scoring.

Obviously it also depends on how good the other options are. If Carlton stick with De Koning as number 1 ruck he could be a must have.

Docherty if he plays on

Smith , Coleman , McStay (maybe)

Interesting to see what happens to Parker

Mills possibly

Can Soligo make the next step consistently ?

Horne-Francis

Wait and see on final averages to see who might offer starting "value"

I've never had Rowell in my team until this year, the main issue was his lack of spread and outside game to compliment his inside work. I got sucked in this year, his CP and tackle numbers for the 1st 7 games were outstanding, so I thought bugger it! he's good enough with a 130+ average to have a crack (also helped that I had the cash from a Grundy > Sweet trade) Trading Rowell in at $640k would have to be one of my dumbest decisions of the year, he's delivered a sub 90 average since then and lost $200k in the process.

Unless I see him taking marks, getting the ball on the outside and providing good spread then he's never, ever and I mean never, ever, going to see himself in my team again.

*Edit....this could have been in the rant thread too

I got sucked in too, pulled him in r5 for 620,500. And I can't get rid of the ....er, he's still in my team, haha. Got 3 trades left, may have to burn a couple next week and offload him.
