I think even once the PM’s XI and Test squad have been named, I’ll likely just pick the three internationals for the Heat only. That’s if Munro is available for their first match of course.

Too many question marks on basically every local player whether it be selected for PM’s XI or Test squad, availability for those named for the first and possibly second match once PM’s XI players are available again, generally being a poor selection or wife recently giving birth to twins..

Think there’s a real risk of picking a player expecting them to play all three matches of the TGR when it only eventuates that they play two or possibly even just one match of their TGR.

I think you’re right that there’s question marks over them all, but I wonder if the fear of someone misses a game results in missing a genuine good option.

Assuming Neser and one of the spinners joins Renshaw in the XI. Johnson also appears highly unlikely to be available.

Their XI may be: Munro, Brown, McSweeney, Billings, Pierson, Bryant, Walter, Bartlett, Wildermuth, Prestwidge, Kuhn/Swep.

McSweeney (if the ankle issue is okay) immediately stands out to me given their bowling lineup - good chance of stealing quite a few overs. A guy batting 3, bowling 2-3, in very good form, at 130k - if he was on a dgw you’d pick him.

Think it’s a case by case basis. One thing is for sure though, I’m becoming very keen on Walter - role could be sublime.

Laurie Evans opened for Surrey in the Varsity Blast comp held in the middle of this year so would not be surprised if he opened the batting for the Scorchers.

Whiteman was outstanding in the Marsh Cup game yesterday, perfect guy to replace Bancroft at the top of the order for the Scorchers this season.

No other spinner....

Cooper Connolly ;):p

Scorchers rate this kid highly so if Agar isn't fit, he will play plenty of games I think.
Hamish McKenzie

Would think if Agar was ruled out for a few games , I wonder if they will sign Rocchiccioli direct or as IRP/LRP ?

Could always use their 3rd OS on a spinner as well

Id expect McKenzie to get plenty of opportunity early has been ripping through Grade lineups all summer took another 7fa and isn't the worst with the bat down the order either.

Was it you that had the theory, that international bats struggled in the early games, until they adjusted to speed and bounce of our wickets?

The fitness of Ashton Agar is really going to be impactful on quite a few options.

If he’s unfit, impacts the following:
Hardie - probably increases his likelihood of bowling as hard to take overs off Agar, Jhye, Tye, Dorf and Morris/Kelly.
Turner - again, more likelihood to bowl.
Connolly - if picked at 7, becomes interesting. If picked to open with more batting depth at 7 with Hobson (as they did in marsh cup) - suddenly very interesting with Hardie value going up too.
- appeal would diminish significantly with Crawley back round 2.
Hamish Mackenzie - massive value if picked at 42k.

I reckon there's some truth to that, but also some truth to bats in general being slow to start (I've got no hard evidence to back it up though). Having said that, tempted by Alex Hales in round 2 at Adelaide...

Both Clarke and Munro have hit tons in the first few matches so not sure how well it works universally.

Definitely has seemed to be the case for international batsman with limited Aussie experience.

Perhaps just new international batsman?

I think it's probably more specific to batters in their first season out here. It definitely does take a while to adjust but they tend to get better at it over time - Hales's first season was absolutely garbage and look at him now, for example. It probably seems more true of the English just because more of them come out here, and because it tends to be their first overseas assignment in a lot of cases, but it's always a nice opportunity to get a cheap dig in. :)

Yes, good memory!

Although my side note was that it doesn’t necessarily apply to the international batsmen who have been here for the BBL in recent times. So hopefully Munro and Billings are okay. Walter as an all-rounder batting down the order is exempt.

Lovely knock from Whiteman. I’m really keen on him now. Might even start him on ground in the DGR
Not seeing the appeal of Whiteman. Plenty of top order options for the Scorchers and he probably slots in on occasion into their lineup which ruins his prospects of being a consistent loop option. He wasn’t great for the Thunder when given the opportunity either.

Would rather try and make money on McDermott personally.

Hardie is the interesting one for me to make a call on, was alot easier to pick in previous seasons at a far cheaper price.
